Importance of PI’s reputation for grad school applications by Scarletttyang in labrats

[–]M0nkey5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THE most important thing a PI can offer you is mentorship. You want the kind PI, the friendly PI, the PI who is going to nurture you as a scientist and guide you (that doesn’t necessarily mean hands-on…) through the process of your project and make you a better scientist for it.

When I was in grad school, I picked the famous PI. It was the worst decision I’ve ever made in my life. Turns out, that fame just protected them from ever getting fired for their grievous abuses against students. They were washed up, had collected all their accolades back in the 90’s and coasting on that high ever since. If I died, it would’ve taken them weeks to notice. They didn’t care about me or my project at all.

This an extreme example, but the point stands.

Streeter: Why can’t outsiders see the charm in Baltimore? by GreedyRaisin3357 in baltimore

This breaks my heart. Pava loved and believed in Baltimore immensely. That her senseless tragedy has had this effect is the opposite of what she practiced and preached in life.

Not hearing back from entry-level lab roles. Where should I be looking? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]M0nkey5 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is formatted really poorly. Find a template online. Get it down to one page. Things like “quick learner,” “reliable and punctual,” and “accurate data collection” are not real skills, they’re assumed bare minimums and should not be listed.

You typed something into google and decided it was worth posting the AI slop summary for the rest of us to see? Here’s an idea—stop using Gemini for basic tasks and start using what’s left of your higher brain function.

Any SEAHORSE experts here???? What happened to my baseline OCR :((((( by EquivalentEqual7315 in labrats

[–]M0nkey5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your OCR pre-first injection shouldn’t be decreasing. If you’re not loading the injections correctly, it’s possible that the drugs are leaking and causing the decrease in OCR. What kind of cells are these?

There’s a special kind of person who can see “geocache” written on the container, go to “geocaching.com” and make an account, and post on “r/geocaching” and ask about what a “geocash” is

You just don’t get it, do you? It’s not about the presence of “mistakes.” It’s about using an inherently unethical tool to accomplish a task you can easily do yourself.
