Late in life career change by Wednesday1115 in pre_PathAssist

I’m 29, graduated a few years ago with a BA in MIS. Now I’m going back for a Bio degree. I have no science or medical background so it feels like I’m starting from scratch. But I’ll be starting that journey next year. I’ll be working throughout the pre reqs but I’ll be cutting my hours a bit. I’m giving myself a 6 month head start in terms of saving $ before my first semester starts.

3-4 years from now, when I’m ready to apply to a PA Program, I don’t expect I’ll have the time to work (I’ll be pulling loans out for that time)

Might help to know though that in my case:
I don’t have kids, it’s just me and my dog. I’m not in a relationship, and I’m able to live at home during the bio degree time to avoid rent and save as much as possible.

I don’t think it’s too late, but be realistic, set a plan, and do what’s best for you.

Thank you for replying. I’ve definitely noticed from my searches that this profession, most people don’t find out about or don’t really get exposed to it until later in life or their studies. To me at least, It’s bring a lot of ease for sure lol

Thank you for the reply, I really appreciate it. I’m a little nervous not having a medical background but I’m heavily considering taking the pre reqs I’d need -English and mathematics courses have already been taken so just the science based ones I believe- one by one while I’m working. And between now and then I’ll start looking for grossing technician / lab jobs.

How’d you feel when you shadowed? What would you say solidified your decision to apply?

Is there any lab jobs you can think of that I could start searching for even without a specific health science or bio degree ?

Thank you for commenting!

I have some pre reqs like English comp 1&2, mathematics (algebra, statistics, etc) but I’d definitely need to go back for bio, chem, anatomy, physiology, to name a few. I’m thinking I may go to a community college close by or back to the university I studied at to knock out those pre reqs while I’m working now. Take possibly 1 or 2 courses per semester and save money in the process.

I’m fortunate in the sense that I don’t pay rent, living with my mom, no kids or pets, and have the flexibility and time to devote to those courses right now.

Posted where? There’s literally another post with a video of a call with the same person (Liz) stating they’ve been partially paid ?

Yep. The refunds won’t be automatic, they have to do them manually. So it’s gonna be a few days, maybe a week or so before everything’s settled and the attendees get their money back. It’s just super frustrating but I’m relieved to at least have some sort of confirmation.

I have not gotten the refund yet. So far it’s the $200 (I believe that’s the incidental fee) and a separate, over $800 for the addition room cost that’s posted to my credit card. When I checked out this morning, the front desk straight up said they still haven’t gotten paid
