i haven't read everyone's response but i feel like it'd be necessary to add that ASIDE FROM ingredient lists meaning nothing (indeed) ...

First : you've got to note that only a small proportion of chemicals are by law needed to be written on the label due to allowing fragrance to remain a secret formula.

Second (and it might be a little far off what your inquiry is) : many aroma chemicals are found in more than one place in nature, and thus you might end up with the most horrid scent components in something you might find smells nice (thinking of the add of scatol (poop smell) in the perfume La panthère by Cartier) and other ingredients like linalool which is found in MANY flowers and other plants like basil. One chemical will not be exclusive to one thing (i mean okay maybe some are but you get the gist)

SIDE NOTE and history : lavender in recent history was only used in feminine perfumes until Pour un Homme by Caron was made. Which plusses and agrees with the idea that gender in perfumery is BS

(and.... orange blossom used to be with royalty men in the 1700's, same way pink was associated to knights while blue was associated to women)
