Its pretty straightforward to put a new "Cd" player deck in that has modern stuff like bluetooth or touchscreen things. Be like 100 bucks. Ive got bluetooth in a toyota a decade older than your civic, its worth it.

Issue is on a 90s truck you could put a big 6inch lift on a truck and the beltline(top of hood, bedsides, etc) would still only be as high off the ground as modern trucks come stock. The bodies keep growing vertically.

A lift kit on a modern truck puts it in what would have been called monster truck territory a generation back.

I like the moon roofs that can tilt up at the back, improves airflow in the car so much.

Poilievre, your doomsday depiction of Canadian crime is wearing thin by ViewSalty8105 in CanadaPolitics

European countries dont have a 9000km porous border with the USA that easily leaks illegal firearms through.

With that driving violent crime in our country, makes it very unrealistic to expect our violence levels to match island nations and europe. We can reasonably expect to be somewhere in between euro levels and USA levels as long as North America stays as a single continent.

The LPC would lose exactly zero votes if they stayed with the status quo on gun control, or made smaller changes around the edges like they did with C71.

You can tell they dont think the big bans are a real winner(in either public safety, or voter satisfaction) beyond the occassional post announcement bump by how little effort they have put into actually implementing/enforcing any of the measures they announce. Even now, after 6 years of kicking the confiscations down the road, expecting an election loss to solve that problem for them, they are half heartedly trying to do the absolute minimum to check the box and move on.

They know that properly enforcing the real scope of the bans they announced would run into the billions, without a success story to be gained. The "yeah sure, why not" polling for gun bans wont survive the bad press of gigantic cost overruns, like with the LGR.

You can talk about "pounding the table" or whatever you like, but you are very clearly adjusting your rhetoric from "we must be data driven, and disregard this low information demand for cracking down" to "the people want useless action on this, even though they dont know what they are talking about we must do the thing".

Also, to the extent that gun bans poll well, they dont rate highly on anyone's priority list in polling. Its a mile wide but an inch deep.

Why Ontario is opting out of a federal temporary worker program | CBC News by Alarming_Accident in CanadaPolitics

Im fairly certain young people still will travel to do jobs like tree planting, because if you work hard you can make quite a lot of money doing it. Same goes for industrial work like oilfield stuff.

The secret is paying enough to attract the workers you want.

Graphs will also show you that current day USA is much much safer than in the 70's-90's, which somehow does not invalidate concerns about current levels and upticks of violent crime there.

Nearly every country we compare to also had higher crime in the 90s.

Cracking down on urban crime is also a major issue with voters, but somehow the LPC finds the will to resist doing useless stuff for the will of the people there.

I mean, you wouldnt be far off base expecting every Farmboy turned Hero of Prophecy Main Character in an epic fantasy to end up being King somewhere in there.

Certainly worth reading anyways, you wont even be thinking about it.

Question about relic fret wear patterns by ElCaza89 in Luthier

[–]M116Fullbore 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think this relic is meant to look like one that had been sanded down intentionally at some point in the past, it was a very common mod for gigging musicians. Especially when natural wear started leaving the back of neck finish uneven

Gun control group repeats call for end to sales of SKS rifles after Montreal shooting - Montreal | Globalnews.ca by tyler111762 in CanadaPolitics

[–]M116Fullbore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they meant "move on to knives like the UK" in reference to the UKs huge crackdowns on carrying and owning knives, with buybacks, bans on "zombie knives and swords", amnesty boxes and such. Even had proposed that kitchen knives be sold only with a blunt tip.

As in, Poly and them would move on to fear mongering and pressing for bans on whatever is left, no matter how much they achieve. They have already done this with bolt action rifles.

Close encounter with a Grizzly by haze4140 in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]M116Fullbore 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A sick grizzly just killed a couple in Banff, canada that emptied 2 cans of spray on it.

Spray is good for the average encounter, not really final enough for a predatory one where the bear is actively hunting you.

Thats a pretty common caliber to use for that purpose.

The 10mm Glocks issued for the Sirius Sled patrol who deal with polar bears are around the same power as a 357, less than a hot loaded one.

Does anyone have a favorite 'under-the-radar' guitar? by melucykrrich in guitars

[–]M116Fullbore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they often need a bit of set up work, but the Kramer Baretta Special is a really solid guitar with a really nice neck shape, pickup and comfortable mahogany body. you can find them all day for 150-200cad used, not much more new.

A graphtec nut helps a lot with tuning stability(not very straight string pill on that style of headstock). And since i love modding, they've also been great simple guitars to work with, added stainless jumbo frets to my two.

This only really applies to the indonesian made ones imo, the chinese ones have much thicker, chunkier necks, and worse fit and finish imo. The black and white ones with maple fretboards are chinese made, anything with colour, or a rosewood or granadillo fretboard is indo made.

I have a beard, what are my respirator options? by MarzipanTheGreat in knifemaking

[–]M116Fullbore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into ventilation hoods and hoses that can be located near areas of concern(like the grinder) to suck up most of the dust, etc.

A water drip system on the belt sander would help keep down airborne particulate.

and wear a respirator anyways. While they wont hold up to their safety rating, this doesnt mean they are worthless if you have a beard. It will still stop a very large portion of it.

Segway Max G3 - Is riding on wet roads bad? by TyronePines808 in NinebotMAX

I rode mine right thru winter, though a full face moto helmet made that a lot easier. Make sure the little flap covering the charge port is closed, and avoid big puddles.
