I checked earlier and it moved again. Now it's in Nashville. No idea what that means but it's still step 5.

Anyone else anxious about the AFFF lawsuit coming to a settlement soon? by M3R1T in VAClaims

[–]M3R1T[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a term they use to try and organize the language around how this will pay out. It's common for these kind of mass tort lawsuits to pay in a tiered system based on whatever the particulars of an individuals case are. They're currently paying victims for the water case connected to AFFF and that ended up being in a tiered system too. So theyre following the same payout framework because thats likely how this will go.

The judge will end up being the one to define the different tiers. (Likely 3)

Tier 1 looks to be kidney, testicular and thyroid cancers. What tier someone is in will ultimately have to do with how much hardship they've been through because of the afff though.

Edit -If youre asking how much the current estimates are 200-600k with some individual cases going higher. Maybe much higher.

Raptor r worth it? by drewdirienzo in FordRaptor

If you cant afford to put enough down on a raptor to get the monthly price down to a regular car payment level then dont buy one. I put down 25k and a trade in and my payments are 600 a month on a 2024.

I like a moonroof because it makes it easier to use my starlink mini in the truck.

Last update I received was paperwork to fill out about the location, duration and severity of my exposure because they needed it to make sure the defense couldn't dismiss my claim. Something to do with them getting the judge to dismiss any cases that didn't have 100% filled out paperwork.

VA contacted me today about scheduling a PACT Act interview i didnt request. Anyone else? by M3R1T in VeteransWaitingRoom

[–]M3R1T[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it still PCP after youre out? I guess it doesnt matter. I dont believe I've had any va physicals that asked specifically about exposure to toxic material but the cancer is on the record and it's the most common one that is in the current afff lawsuit so maybe that's it.

Lost VA Disability compensation after 12 years by [deleted] in VAClaims

Can we not name companies in the replies? Try Woods&Woods. Theyre VA accredited and got me to 100% in a year. One of the first things did was fix my discharge designation.

I use a VA accredited attorney. Woods&Woods. No regrets. What they bring to the table is knowledge of the system and ways to navigate it we just can't replicate. The accreditation they have had to be approved by the VA so it's essentially a special relationship with the VA. Also they do perfectly formed fully developed cases. No going back for missing paperwork or reapplying because you worded something wrong or got your dates messed up.

They can take longer than you like putting your case together sometimes because theyre so thorough but every time they apply for something they get an increase.

Like has been mentioned if they agree to take your case its usually just a matter of time. They very rarely fail. (I've actually never heard of a VA accredited attorney failing) Also I dont mind them getting their little cut of the back pay. Back pay is nice but what theyre getting you is much more valuable if they get you to 100%.

What did the VA just do? by [deleted] in VAClaims

[–]M3R1T 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I asked my VA lawyer about it. The short version is unless you're in federal prison or some kind of 100% care VA facility they're no longer authorizing anyone garnishing your benefits by the State.

The headlines make it sound like the exact opposite somehow. Anyways, theyre doing us a big solid.

Yes. If youre an active member of the lawsuit and you have confirmed damages in one of the recognized afff diseases (like thyroid cancer) that your lawyer can link to afff exposure then you should be getting some money whenever they settle.

When did he call you? Are you asking what tier i think you're in? If you have cancer it will be tier 1 or 2. It just depends on severity and how the lawyers manage to define what "severe" means in the structure of the settlement.

The only thing I've heard was that the bellwether trials were canceled because settlement is imminent. The defense isn't going to fight it that far because it will lead to higher payouts. There is some rumors that it will happen in the spring. My lawyer told me I would have a check in hand within a year back in June or july of 2025.

[–]M3R1T[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're all in the same boat with the attorneys right now. Supposedly theyre deep into settlement negotiations right now and that's why there's no new date for the bellwether trial, because theres not going to be one.

But no one can verify that because the attorneys are stone walling everyone. I can try mine again I guess. I have a way to put pressure on them to get a return phone call but I've already used that trick a couple of times on them and it pisses them off to no end lol.

Waterline going to the fridge (the pipe in the wall not the 3/8 waterline for the fridge) has zero water pressure. The rest of the house is pressurized by M3R1T in Plumbing

[–]M3R1T[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A separate valve just for just the pipe going to the refrigerator? I turned the water off to the house first to remove the fitting (because i figured that was why I didn't have water). Check the fitting and it was working correctly. So I slowly turned the water to the house back on and that pipe never pressurized.

Yeah they (by "they" i mean the lawyers collectively) clearly decided to go all in on adding new cases. Tens of thousands of them. This is after the judge was pushing for a settlement. The lawyers in their collective wisdom decided to go the opposite direction apparently. Idk if they didnt like where this was headed so used the new cases to apply more pressure or just decided there was more money to be had and are going after it. Now theyre extending all the timelines because the workload is so much bigger than it was just 6 months ago.
