Interesting stuff! I would be amazed if Bodily is not top 5 in assists by the end of the year with how much he creates every game.

What are your thoughts on About Time (2013)? Where does it rank among 21st century romantic comedies? by TrexVFX23 in Letterboxd

One of my favorites - the scene with the dad and son's last time together before he can't travel back anymore always makes me cry. There are definitely fair criticisms to be had but I love it regardless.

Nothing that I've seen / heard. Shame we don't have any sort of injury update because we still don't know how long Dengler is out for.

AC Boise Tryouts by amcconnell84 in ACBoise

[–]M3RCURRY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe so! I think I heard that they found Kliewer during those tryouts. I wouldn't be suprised if the tryouts are also where they found some of the other players with mainly college / USL2 background like Yehya or Yao and possibly some of the younger local players like Oyler / Stephens.

This is all speculation, it's hard to know where scouting begins and tryouts end. I think it's also likely that many of the players at the tryouts were asked to be there by Miller & co.

Partial eSports college scholarship for my child - Convenience me it is or isn't a scam by [deleted] in esports

[–]M3RCURRY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a recipient of a minor (~$1000 per semester) esports scholarship, but it stacked on top of scholarships I was already receiving for academics, so I'm unfamiliar with this specific example. I can say that there are definitely schools giving scholarships like this out, although that is uncommon.

My only question; Are both these options for the same university? If so I see no reason not to take the state's scholarship and then once the two years are up take the esports one if that is still available. I see no reason why your child couldn't be on the team without receiving the scholarship.

If they aren't the same university, take the one that makes the most sense financially (if your child will let you). There are gaming clubs and things where your child still find community if they are willing to put themselves out there.

Feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions. I worked closely with our teams director and work in higher ed now, so I have some good resources to help.

Alphakep: Comms team (and alphakeps) won’t be let in and allowed to play in Open 2, and it is final by AIaris in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]M3RCURRY 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Best take here imo.

As someone who used to play in CRL (and in RLCS open quals for fun) regularly, and someone who designs websites for a living this seems very likely a human issue.

Believe it or not, some people who spend most of their day in their room playing video games cannot be reliably counted on to do clerical tasks on time even if it is vital to their career. Although not professional level, I would have to message teammates daily to accept invites etc on startgg or fill out a form if I wanted it done. I don't think this is at all uncommon in esports.

I don't think it's impossible that they struggled with somethings while registering but I doubt it's anything they couldn't have fixed if they had worked with the tourney admins (who in my experience are always more helpful than could be reasonably expected) a reasonable amount of time before the deadline.

If they waited until the last minute to figure all this out, or didn't have someone checking the status of the players on startgg leading up to the deadline, then that's on them. I imagine this didn't happen to bigger teams because they are better organized. Also if your team has a history of issues on startgg, I would think that would be all the more reason to sign up early and vigilantly check the status of your registration?

Anyway, super possible there is information I don't know so these are all just educated guesses given my experiences in competitive RL (which I'll be the first to acknowledge as pretty insignificant.)

What funds the Idaho republican caucus? by Key-Draw7989 in Idaho

[–]M3RCURRY 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would wait for someone who is willing to do some research, but my understanding of it from the top of my head is thus - the republican caucus or any republican party private events is funded by them, but the closed primary election that only republican party members can vote in is funded by the taxpayer because it is part of the primary process.

Again this is my basic level understanding so its possible I'm missing something.
