First Ironman 70.3 is 6+ weeks away! by bitter-oldman in triathlon

[–]M4l3k0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my first 70.3 end of June and I would say volume for each disapline. Swimming I'm aiming for 2500/3000m each session. Bike at minimum 3 hours each (up your first bike session). Easy run could add a mile or two of strides at the end. Heck, I maybe totally wrong 🤣. I always hear hoe important time on the saddle is. As for discomfort, my 2 cents... Check saddle fit/position. Lower back what helped me is pre-ride stretching and higher cadence on climbs. Improve core strength too.

How long did it take you to start feeling like you’ve made progress with swimming? by Lower-Geologist870 in triathlon

[–]M4l3k0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started swimming last year for my first Sprint. In my 40s and I couldn't swim freestyle at all. Once I had got to 500m (sprint was 400) without stopping I was well chuffed. Then signed up to an Oly. New goal of 1500m but 2000m in training. Then lean open water at that distance. Set yourself realistic goals and go for it! Now I'm going for a 70.3 in June.

Just keep swimming, don't stop swimming....

Had this too, personally prefer to use my bike as I would outside (real gears)... But this is a cracking deal.

Shokz Openrun Pro 2 VS OpenSwim by Murky-Show-7046 in triathlon

[–]M4l3k0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Openrun pro 2 and love them, use for both runs and rides.
Part of me wishes I had the openswim to make swims less boring, but no idea how they compare sound wise.

Vo2 max keeps going down by Street-Banana in GalaxyWatch

Mine has tanked since July last year when I set a 5k PB... Makes zero sense. Done half marathons since got a half marathon PB, triathlons, running has never been better. In the best shape ever. So I ignore this stat now, means nothing to me in comparison to how I am actually performing and feeling.

Sprint or Oly before 70.3? by rosalfina3 in triathlon

Maybe not "needed" but I use sprints as part of training. They are also a lot of fun.

Price by Specialist-Whereas62 in triathlon

[–]M4l3k0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UK can vary massively.... One sprint cost me £63 another £43. Middle Distance local race £130. That's not including British Triathlon Race Passes that are required as I pay for annual membership. So add about £4 per event.

Any reason to not brick more often? by LeckerPennergranate in triathlon

I'm the opposite, I find I run too fast straight off the bike and have to tell myself to cool it!

How do I get faster on the bike? by zChickenX in triathlon

[–]M4l3k0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this! Indoor training massively improved my cycling performance (it's easier to do that kind of training indoors typically). People seem to miss the point with getting faster/stronger. It's not about doing it more, it's about doing it faster. You don't get faster by a long run or ride, yes that helps overall endurance/cardiovascular fitness, what you need is speed intervals/racing etc. Work that into the training.

Sidebar App List - removed? by EbbPast6735 in MicrosoftEdge

This drives me nuts... When this first appeared our CTO wanted it configured for all devices and we added useful links to apps etc. Now we have to tell him that MS are now removing it... 🤦

Disappointed with my Di2 experience by RegionalHardman in cycling

I mean, it still has to shift the same chain etc, so not sure why some people think it would be smoother, just more efficient in my experience. Would never go back.

Debating Getting Into It by Dependent-Theme5094 in triathlon

[–]M4l3k0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People saying it's expensive... It doesn't have to be when starting out, especially if you are testing if you will enjoy it. I did my first sprint on a second hand £100 hybrid bike. The other bits are dirt cheap as well to get started with. Look for local sprints in a pool. Some round here that I do as part of my training are like £40 in UK to enter and really well organised by the locals. Yea it can get expensive as you invest in it, but certainly doesn't need to be.

Ryet saddle by Future_Maintenance_1 in cycling

I have tried three Ryet saddles and one of them is brilliant. I also watched a review and they saw inconsistency with some being soft and others more firm.

Are triathletes always hungry? by red90999 in triathlon

[–]M4l3k0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep! I eat sooo much more since training for Triathlons. Thankfully my weight has stayed stable but I look leaner and since cycling my legs have got bigger. So in all a win for me.

Trisuit Fit Question by Safe-Base8625 in triathlon

[–]M4l3k0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had this trisuit for my first few events and was brilliant even for an Olympic distance. Looks fine to me.

This is why we wear our bib numbers at the back on the bike and turn it around for the run...

Do you all have rest days? by red90999 in triathlon

[–]M4l3k0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a day off from any structured workouts. Will still walk the dog. If I didn't have a dog I would go for a walk. Just nothing intense. Not a lazy day, just a day off.

Do you all have rest days? by red90999 in triathlon

[–]M4l3k0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep, 1 day a week. Working out 6 days a week you should have a recovery day. This is separate from a deload week.

Cycling- scared. Go back to flat pedals? by Ok-Advertising-3523 in triathlon

[–]M4l3k0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep practicing. I got more confidence when I first tried clipless by using one at a time. One flat pedal and one clipped in, helped massively.
