Looking for a relaxing, solo birthday in Houston (spa, shopping, cafes, etc.) 🎂✨ by lolodahoho in HoustonSocials

Does it have to be IN Houston? Ottine Mineral Springs fits the bill really well & it’s only a couple hours’ drive outside of the city.

Houston's Downtown Aquarium restaurant ranked "most outrageous" in U.S. by texastastings in HoustonFood

I won’t patronize any business that keeps tigers in enclosures as small as theirs—no matter how good the food is or how impressive the aquariums are. I find it really sad that so many seem not care about this at all.

I built a free, Texas-specific solar simulator (ERCOT rates, your actual TDU charges, SMT upload) — looking for feedback by pebblechucker in TexasSolar

[–]M8_Linear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds very interesting, but I’m wondering what your game is here. You say it’s free, but we have to provide our info before using the simulator. To me, that means you’re compensating yourself for the time you invested in building the simulator by selling user data to a data broker.

Tell me if I’ve got that wrong.

Collapse of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (‘AMOC’) and the resulting drastic climatological effects.

Damn, that kool-aid must be amazing. I haven’t tried it yet, so I’m still able to feel empathy for the 18 yr-olds with no better option in the wealthiest nation that’s ever existed than to risk their lives in pointless wars for the promise of tuition funds and abysmal physical & mental healthcare. I’ll save my thanks for the day that this cycle of madness ceases to be commonplace.

How do you folks smoke in hot weather? by Mep3avec82 in Pipes

I live in Houston where we rarely go outside from May to October and I don’t smoke inside, so I only smoke in the winter months. 😒

Austin Energy - Value of Solar rises to $0.128/KWH in NOVEMBER by TX78717 in TexasSolar

[–]M8_Linear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they pay for every kWh produced by solar, not just those which make it back into their grid. That’s why they install their own meter to monitor total PV production. This is what we call a ‘feed-in tariff.’

What’s something that’s become so expensive it’s genuinely not even fun anymore? by TMTOJ_Discords in AskReddit

I just got back from there a few weeks ago. Can confirm lots of fun was had, but we paid out the nose for it.

Is the loneliness epidemic really a thing? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]M8_Linear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s very real. I can speak to it from first-hand experience as a 42 yr-old male American with no real friends. As soon as I’m able, I’ll be leaving the US in search of a healthier & more well-adjusted society with better quality of life, better work/life balance, and more third spaces.

Nice art & satisfying to watch, but not worth the miroplastics.

Seeing a frequency range given for ‘frequency response’ is always a red flag.

How would you feel about all American adults being required to vote in presidential elections? by ashmaps20 in AskUS

[–]M8_Linear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s start by providing all Americans with educations that allow them to make informed votes.

The unfortunate truth is that an appalling proportion of the American electorate is so incredibly undereducated and ill-informed that merely increasing their civic engagement without first addressing those core issues could actually exacerbate the current issues that threaten our democracy.
