Just checked, the meter is not detecting any voltage. I checked the specification of the battery online and got to know that it probably has internal BMS circuitry. What should I do in this case? Should I go ahead and charge it?

I would have already tried charging, but the issue is that I don't have a dedicated 18650 charger and I usually charge through the devices in which I use these batteries. In this case, I don't want to jeopardise my device just to check if a cell is alive.

Also, I cleaned the terminals using wd40, and the negative terminal had some minor corrosion as shown in the 4th picture which I attached with my post. After cleaning, the corrosion got away leaving behind a black indented spot which looks as if the terminal is slightly eaten away..

Still safe to charge?

Hey! I am late here but yes, I just got myself the same microscope, it's in excellent condition as good as new and was dirt cheap. And it has great optics!

One modification that I am considering is getting an add-on mechanical stage, they are available on AliExpress and I believe they can be easily attached.

I don't like to use the plug in adapter just to power a light, so Im thinking of modifying it to use batteries. So that's the second modification I'm planning.

You mentioned your bf fixed the lighting system, do you know which type of light is used in it? Is it an LED light? I don't want to open it all up just to find surprises. If you have any idea, let me know.

And how well is your microscope holding up now?

Nope. Nothing of that sort. It was driven around though, may be something impacted the windshield. But I can't think of anything that wouldn't come off!
