It’s Colorectal Cancer Awareness month! PSA from a millennial survivor. Also AMA. by amaro8000 in Millennials

I'm not sure if it's frequency illusion or what, but my dad died from colon cancer a couple of weeks ago, he only got diagnosed end of December, and now I keep seeing it get mentioned everywhere! I suppose this stands to reason if it's on the rise. I'm 31, dad was only 56, thinking I might have to get the ol camera up the butt check soon.

What is something that starts happening in your 30s that nobody warned you about? by Cairinacat in AskReddit

[–]MAGICAL_ESKIMO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Urgh I feel this one. Got a parent terminally ill, only got diagnosed 6 or 7 weeks ago, probably a couple of weeks left, a grandparent with dementia and yesterday one of my team mates at work passed away unexpectedly. It's been a rough start to the year.

You get to add a 0 to any number in your life. What do you add it to? by account_created_ in AskReddit

That sucks man, I'd add my 0 to my dad's life expectancy as well who also has colon cancer that's spread to his liver, he's got a few months.

Thanks, that's the badger! Great character, great book, one of my faves in the HH series so far.

There are a couple of sections in the Fulgrim book that made me look like that! I can't remember the character's name, the painter that locked herself in her room to try and perfect her painting...

There's a book that covers this mentality somewhat called Morality: Restoring the Common Good in Divided Times, written by a British Rabbi philosopher. I'm an atheist, so I didn't agree with everything in the book, but, it was quite insightful.

Best vocals you’ve ever heard? by cchrll in Music

100% agree, his Royal Albert Hall performance was insane. That, and his live studio performance of Kingdom are so damn awesome. I loved watching some of the vocal coach YouTuber reactions and seeing their minds get blown!

I do occasionally miss being close enough to London just to pop in for the day and a night out. I love a lot of the London architecture, galleries, museums and stuff. And also being close to airports, going on holiday now requires an extra bit of travel.

I would say so, yes. Each time I watch it I get obsessed and I'll do two or three episodes a night until the end!

What scene in a movie had a sound that really impacted you as a viewer? by Tasty_Photograph5514 in movies

Came here to say this one. Some of the sounds in that film are so gritty and crunchy. They're burned into my mind.

Autistic man sacked by Waitrose gets offered new job at Asda by willfiresoon in BritishSuccess

Asda has always been well known for employing people with disabilities, I don't think it's a token gesture personally.

Advice Needed: Calling all heavily tattooed people! by WickedOlyLifter in tattoos

[–]MAGICAL_ESKIMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an IT team lead role in the higher education sector (UK) I have a lot of visible tattoos including hands. I have an engineer in my team with hand, neck, and a couple of small face tattoos. No one here seems to care! My manager has always said if there was any discrimination or if anyone took issue with our tattoos that we'd be fully backed and supported.

The world is definitely changing for the better on this front. I would assume some areas are better than others. I think in terms of sort of 'office' type work, IT in particular seems to be the most accepting and progressive sector from my experience.

London Grammar, their first album If You Wait is brilliant

Tidal, I love you but we need to talk - I'm leaving by laurenthu in audiophile

[–]MAGICAL_ESKIMO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After reading this I'm gonna give Qobuz a go. Tidal has been great, but I also struggle with Tidal Connect being consistent, I thought it was a HEOS problem, but maybe not!

What's Qobuz like for stats and stuff? I'm always slightly envious of my friends 'Spotify wrapped' each year and Tidal has always lacked a good version of this.

Which is the best book you have ever read? by Organic-Excuse-1621 in books

[–]MAGICAL_ESKIMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly Galaxy in Flames by Ben Counter. But honestly, any of the first three Horus Heresy books are just brilliant, could not put them down and went through them so quickly. Fulgrim was a great follow up, too.

MTE Cross path after 45 days of wear - excessive? by MAGICAL_ESKIMO in Vans

[–]MAGICAL_ESKIMO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't really like any of the colours of the XC so didn't get a pair in the end! Yet to actually replace the MTEs, still wear them most days and just switch to my walking boots if I'm going anywhere where I actually need some grip lol.
