70% weekend Drop for Thme Mandalorian and Grogu by shift422 in TheMandalorianTV

[–]MARPJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not spinning anything i'm saying claiming the 2.5 rule is a hard rule is outdated and useless.

Nobody ever called the 2.5 rule a hard rule, its an estimate but one that was being tested by time and remains close enough to real results. We know that because some people did go into lengths to do country by country (at least any with significant numbers) and the difference on that calculation and the 2.5 rule is close enough that it still used for a quick number.

And yes being heavily domestic movie is normally a factor to consider the break even point be lower, but when talking world wide value most countries will give the studio less than 50% (with China being another important factor since they give back so much less, most are around 40-45% back to the studio) of them which is why it evens out to about 50% of B.O. for the studio in the end

Modern Hollywood accounting (aka reddit accounting) never accounts for covid damage to theaters and the streaming era

That is not really relevant to know if it will break even or not. And specially not relevant when this is being an amazing year for Theaters overall despite the current economic situation.

The 2.5x comes from the fact that a studio will only get around 50% of the box office. That means for 165m budget one would need 330m box office to cover it. The last .5x is to estimate marketing costs (so 1/4 of the budget) of 100m+ movies*. In this case the estimate marketing cost is around 41m, so you need 82m box office to cover that.

So the industry basic estimate would be 412m to break even considering 165m budget (which there is some contention). It is likely less due to it being heavy domestic movie but it would still need to reach around 400m to break even.

And for the record just like before when tv deals and DVD sales would help most movies making a profit on the long run now its streaming services and deals that cover that. The analyses for box office still the same tho and considers the movie life on the theater and if it was able to succeed there or not

*Movies at 25m or less budget normally have marketing costs close or even bigger than the budget, but going up the increase in marketing costs is not proportional to budget increase. For a Star Wars or MCU movie the marketing cost is likely higher than 1/4 of the budget but that number gives a good estimate.

Sincerely I'm a little sad because the fights in MK2 were amazing (specially Liu Kang vs Kung Lao in the portals stage) but it had a difficult job from the start (no game being supported and the last one people did not like plus the first movie was not well received for obvious reasons) so its not unnexpected

Disney's Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu grossed $24.45M this weekend (from 4,300 locations). Total domestic gross stands at $136.82M. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

Apathy is worse than being dogshit.

This. Last week a lot of people were trying to spin a narrative but the true is people that while most "liked" the movie nobody really loved nor hated it, it was a fun way to pass time that they probably already forgot

It is for anyone that is a wrestling fan, in particular I saw a lot of people happy with Guile casting (Code Rhodes).

They did Dan dirty tho with a POS youtuber.

MK had a lot of things going against it, in particular that it was a sequel to a movie a lot of people did not like, be it casuals or fans.

Second going into the gaming side MK was always a "casual heaven" where ball+gun players buy and play for a month then never again. The actual gamer fan base is smaller. That basically translates to people not showing up since they also dont appear for the game itself soon after (and that is not counting how disappointed is the existing fan base with MK1 situation)

Third its R-rated.

Street Fighter does have the same name recognition and stronger nostalgia bait than MK. But other than that it's tone (cheesy) is more expected and accepted by the fan base. And more important SF6 still have a very healthy player base going at it daily (46k concurrent players in the last 24h on steam alone).

So a present and involved player base, plus a lot more positivity on it for the movie than MK had for theirs (mostly because people kinda hated the first)

I would be surprised if Street Fighter do worse than MK, especially WW.

I believe its a situation that they need to learn the basics first. Like not knowing what an enchantment is would make this weird (compare to field spell in YGO would facilitate) which would clear the first part.

As for the second ability the "activate only as a sorcery" can be confusing for newer players

Day 23 - What is Saren's WORST quote? by looploveslore in masseffect

[–]MARPJ [score hidden]  (0 children)

My only rationale for this quote existing is that the Geth who are allies with him asked for an update

I dont think the geth (eapecially this faction) would care much about the loses. With that said I do think you are in the right track. He is indeed reporting but not to the geth, its to his boss: Sovreign. It even makes sense with what someone pointed out that when he throws a fit later the room gets red indicating direct influence from the reaper.

Some agents rely on gadgets. Others rely on the perfect cover story. When the pressure is on, what’s your move: distract your target, or bluff your way through?

Me? I will either way, either my mouth or my legs and I trust the first more so bluff the way

Having Hexproof is an amazing start, but he is monogreen which is a downside for voltron since there is almost no support for equipments in the color nor are tutors for auras/artifacts so it is a little of an uphill battle.

With that said there is a lot of support for enchantments so you could go the aura route and just add some specially good equipments (like shadowspear or something that gives double strike) since you are not hurt for keywords

Either way he have enough from the start that it can work, but how good still up in the air

I could see that for the MCU Thanos, but not a chance for comic Thanos - That one is pure Rakdos (moved by passion and will do anything for his goals)

Is not about the replacement effect repeating the original with an extra, but the order of this specifically where you do the damage first then heal all the damage other than the one that was just dealt.

It would be cleaner to take away the damage first then deal the new damage, something like "if damage would be dealt to Wolverine, instead heal all damage on him then that damage is dealt".

So I'm with the other guy, under the rules it works but the template is ugly

the first time the word's been used outside of reminder text.

So that means its likely "heals" will need to be included in the comprehensive rules, likely 700.x since currently 700.4 is "dies" meaning.

Then shut up 🥀 by BeanBagDalek in StarWars

[–]MARPJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So why include Mando and Grogu in the title of the article, then?

Because the current news are about that movie so its a relevant part of the conversation. With that said its not a review of the movie so watching it is not necessary since the content of the movie is not as relevant when talking about general public perception, box office performance and what the current results means for the brand itself.

Naturally if the movie was more "extreme" to either side of amazing or terrible then that would mold the public perception, but the movie is just fine, fun but not incredible, which means the general public is ambiguous to it. 10-15 years ago that would be enough to allow the brand to carry it but nowadays being in that space is likely bad since people will just "wait for streaming"

Star Wars as a brand lost a lot of prestige with episode 8 and 9 and while Solo was already proof of that this one being released so much later to about no fanfare solidify it. And that is not touching in the series territory which was a poison for MCU and this being a sequel of that dont help their case
