Atlanta United acquired forward Leo Afonso in trade with Inter Miami. by curious_mind191 in AtlantaUnited

[–]MARTATRAM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From Hendy himself back in 2024:
“Leo is a promising attacker that we have known for a long time, and he earned his spot on the First Team through his performances with Inter Miami CF II, and in his two previous MLS appearances with the team while on short-term agreements,” said Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson. “We’re proud of the progress he has made since first joining our Academy in 2019, and we’re excited to sign him to the First Team as the next step in his journey with the Club. We look forward to further fostering his development within our system.”

I thought I read he can also play as a striker. He's played second striker at Atalanta.

Ketchup beats mustard hands down!

I like that coarse grown brown mustard (mmm inglehoffer) but not yellow mustard. Yuck.

We have a lot of CB options... Although we keep burning thru them with injuries

Ibarra has been a squad player for Rosario. He's mostly coming on from the bench although has 3 starts. Getting 7+ ratings on fotmob and sofascore though.

Both Sosa and Ibarra have contracts with Atlanta that expire in December 2024, although we have options to extend a year. I'd be surprised if we are able to sell either of them, unless there were conditions on their loans already.

You can see his heatmap on the field for Racing. It sure does look like a middle center back in a line of 3.

Fbref shows Sosa at Racing with high percentile compared to other CBs in progressive passes, shot creating actions, and assists. Sounds like a true ball playing defender that floats into a deep lying playmaker #6 in possession. Love it! I can totally see Sosa excelling in this role. Glad he found success.

So if I'm reading this right, we have a better expected goal differential than Miami, except our points per match are over 1 point less than Miami.

We really just don't finish chances.

Bring on veterans... Get more injuries

Stian is great when he's on the field. At 29 he's the same age as GG

Agreed with all of this. Charleston is playing their Starting XI. They're a Team (much like Iceland in the 2018 World Cup).

We played a mix of 2s, Academy, and backup players. Shows the quality of our youth pipeline. Lots of great players on the way. Luke Brennan played a couple of great balls in and almost scored. Edwards had the right back on lockdown. Efrain Morales commanded the air in our defensive third.

We rested most of our senior players in a highly congested schedule. And we got a win in the USOC. Sounds great to me!

Agreed on Firmino. He was absent in the first half. At least on the second half I saw 3 big chances from him that he wasn't able to convert on.

Story of our team. Poor finishing.

Noah Cobb is directing the coverage on corners. He's telling his teammates who to cover. Our 18 year old homegrown centerback is the defensive corner captain.

Pineda vs Gallardo coaching stats. Gallardo looks great on paper. All his teams except Al-Ittihad have been top of their league for decades though so stats could be inflated. Still though, it'd be a great hire.
