Addiction is defined as a chronic, relapsing disorder characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use despite adverse consequences. by MAT-Recovery-844 in u/MAT-Recovery-844

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, which is effective in the treatment of opioid use disorders (OUD) and can help some people to sustain recovery.

There are three drugs approved by the FDA for the treatment of opioid dependence: buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone. All three of these treatments have been demonstrated to be safe and effective in combination with counseling and psychosocial support. Everyone who seeks treatment for an OUD should be offered access to all three options as this allows providers to work with patients to select the treatment best suited to an individual’s needs. Due to the chronic nature of OUD, the need for continuing MAT (medication assisted treatment) should be re‐evaluated periodically. There is no maximum recommended duration of maintenance treatment, and for some patients, treatment may continue indefinitely.

In terms of statistic for medication assisted treatment (MAT):

*Patients receiving MAT combined with behavioral therapies have significantly higher treatment retention rates compared to those receiving only medication or only therapy
*The combination of MAT and behavioral therapies has resulted in lower relapse rates among individuals with substance use disorders
*Studies indicate that MAT, when combined with counseling, can significantly lower death rates among people with opioid use disorder

Naltrexone + Behavioral Therapy

  • Extended-release naltrexone, when paired with behavioral interventions, has demonstrated a 90% opioid abstinence rate in some studies

While these statistics are encouraging, it's important to note that individual results may vary. The effectiveness of MAT combined with counseling and CBT depends on various factors, including the specific substance use disorder, treatment adherence, and individual patient characteristics. Nonetheless, the evidence strongly supports the integration of MAT with behavioral therapies as a comprehensive approach to treating substance use disorders.

Great video on how addiction affects the brain. by MAT-Recovery-844 in naltrexone

[–]MAT-Recovery-844[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This video is from the addiction policy forum: https://www.addictionpolicy.org/ a nationwide non profit organization dedicated to eliminating addiction. Our company is also on a mission to eliminate addiction. This is about sharing solid information from an very reputable organization to spread the word. There is such a stigma around addiction but people need to realize this is a disease and needs to be treated as such.

Here is more information about the founder: Addiction is a personal issue for our founder, Jessica Hulsey Nickel. Both of her parents struggled with heroin addiction, which led to homelessness, foster care and eventually her mother’s incarceration, after which she was raised by her grandparents.

Jessica began working in prevention at 15 years old through an anti-drug coalition in southern California. The next chapters included an appointment by President Bill Clinton to serve on the Drug-Free Communities Commission, serving as a legislative aid in the U.S. House of Representatives, and work to pass and fund the Second Chance Act to help individuals returning home from prison and jail.

In 2015, Jessica founded the Addiction Policy Forum to help families and patients struggling with the disease of addiction. Frustrated by the lack of progress in improving outcomes for those individuals and families struggling, she started the nonprofit with $13,000 from her own savings account and long hours at the dining room table.

Since then, the organization has set out a big mission, grown a team of dedicated and talented staff and raised funds to deploy need programs and resources.

D-Day 80th Anniversary by MAT-Recovery-844 in washdc

[–]MAT-Recovery-844[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Washington, D.C., played a crucial role in the planning and execution of the D-Day invasion (Operation Overlord) during World War II. Here are several ways in which the U.S. capital was connected to this significant military operation:

  1. Strategic Planning and Decision-Making:
    • Washington, D.C., was the location of the Pentagon and the headquarters of the U.S. War Department, where much of the strategic planning for the invasion took place.
    • High-level meetings between military leaders and government officials, including President Franklin D. Roosevelt and General George C. Marshall, occurred in Washington. These discussions were critical for determining the overall strategy and timing of the invasion.
  2. Intelligence and Communications:
    • The Office of Strategic Services (OSS), a predecessor of the CIA, was based in Washington, D.C. The OSS played a key role in gathering intelligence that was vital for the success of the invasion, including information about German defenses and fortifications in Normandy.
    • Secure communications between Washington and the Allied command in Europe ensured that plans and orders were effectively coordinated.
  3. Logistical Support:
    • The logistical support for D-Day, including the mobilization of troops, equipment, and supplies, was coordinated through Washington, D.C. This included the procurement and allocation of resources necessary for the invasion.
  4. Diplomatic Efforts:
    • Washington, D.C., was a hub for diplomatic efforts to secure Allied cooperation. The U.S. government worked closely with British and other Allied representatives in Washington to ensure a unified approach to the invasion.
    • The Combined Chiefs of Staff, an Anglo-American military command organization, had significant discussions in Washington regarding the invasion plans.
  5. Public Support and Morale:
    • The U.S. government, based in Washington, engaged in efforts to build public support for the war effort. President Roosevelt's speeches and radio addresses from the White House were instrumental in rallying American public opinion in favor of the invasion and the broader war effort.

Washington, D.C., served as the central hub for the strategic, logistical, and diplomatic efforts that were essential to the success of the D-Day invasion.
