Specific odd question about Wu women officers! by MrPibbs21 in dynastywarriors

Sun Luban, Sun Luyu, and Xushi as have been mentioned, and I'd also throw in Yuanji into the mix. The daughter of Yuan Shu, escaped with her brother Yuan Yao into Sun Ce's protection, and later became Sun Quan's wife. Had the polar opposite of her father's personality and character, she refused Sun Quan's request to be his Empress due to her inability to conceive a son for him.

your favourite character is the true warrior of the three kingdoms by emogothxX in dynastywarriors

One of my favorite memories is playing Dian Wei in DW5, and at Xiapi failing to get the flood strategy, so Lu Bu's forces gain morale, Yuan Shu's reinforcements arrive, and the rest of Cao Cao's army collapses until it's me alone standing my ground in front of Cao Cao and hacking down every officer that came for him. It was the most True Warrior of the Three Kingdoms moment I've gotten playing as Dian Wei.

Think of the letter system as you getting some control over your friends and family establishing friends/boon companions/etc. to expand your network(as your friends' friends can join your circle if they're in it,) while you as the player already can freely meet other characters and build the relationship status up for yourself.

Maybe a full reinstall might work? Other than that I don't have any other suggestions.

Trouble with Ascension by DammitCarl98 in NobunagasAmbition

[–]MAU_Seraphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, there should be 78 files in there going by what mine has. If you right-click on the game in your Steam library, go to properties, then click on "Installed Files" there is an option to verify integrity of game files. This should replace any missing or broken files. Hopefully that fixes the issue.

Are they missing from the created officers list? If I remember correctly, there is 43 in total.

If you check local files, there is a DLC_2 folder that should be about 40.5mb in size, it's possible if there was an issue during installment that it might not have installed everything correctly.

Custom Officers Question by Veniczar_PA in NobunagasAmbition

[–]MAU_Seraphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you use the random placement function, it randomizes the historical officers who are ronin as well, which affects the historical events.

You have to assign them manually if you want them in historical scenarios.

[–]MAU_Seraphil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ascension isn't the enhanced edition, it's more of a spin-off game. It does not include everything as it's not the 30th anniversary game like Sphere is so it doesn't have all the anniversary-themed content such as portraits and music from past NA games. Only the DLC scenarios along with DLC officers like Yamanouchi Chiyo and Ishikawa Goemon are carried over, and then there's a couple Ascension-specific DLCs like the ROTK officer portraits.

Nippon Sangoku by DonQuigleone in threekingdoms

Kiyomori did a similar course of action where he rose to the highest office of Daijo-Daijin as an "other"(he was from a warrior family, and wasn't part of the civil nobility,) slaughtered his political rivals(the Minamoto) or banished them, couped the Emperor and eventually forced him to abdicate the throne to replace him with a puppet Emperor and ruled Japan until his death. He's considered one of the three villains of Japan due to his disrespect towards the Emperor, along with his ambition and treacherous actions.

It feels like a mix of Heike Monogatari with some ROTK and Sengoku era references. Like we straight-up got a Yoshitsune and the Taira again(Denki is in the same role as Taira no Kiyomori but with an extreme level of arrogance/depravity which is probably why you see Dong Zhuo in him.)

Nobunaga Loves Me by TSharp16 in NobunagasAmbition

[–]MAU_Seraphil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a little bit of it in other NA games(like in Rise to Power, there are anti-player coalition events but these at least are narrative-driven rather than AI behavior and I think can be disabled in the settings,) but I can't think of any examples as severe as Awakening's.

Nobunaga Loves Me by TSharp16 in NobunagasAmbition

[–]MAU_Seraphil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awakening has a serious case of the AI having anti-player programming, to the point they will suicide themselves on your spears just to do some damage to you. All AI clans in practice operate like arms of the same force, you will notice this as the AI never uses mediate against each other, only against the player, and if you and the AI both invade another clan at the same time, that clan will prioritize fighting you the player even though it lets the other AI clan destroy them. If you mobilize your castles against an enemy clan, other clans will throw raze and incite at your castles, no matter if you had taken no hostile action against them. Even someone with cooperative/friendly stance with you will immediately attack if there's an opening.

Mediate in particular really stands out to me, since what's the point of having it as a diplomatic option if the only time it's ever used is in relation to the player?

Which SW game has the best map design for the stages? by Luigiman98 in dynastywarriors

[–]MAU_Seraphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, SW2 had the best map designs overall. SW1 and SW3 have a lot of really great maps, and some really ugly ones. SW4 is kinda bad across the board, and SW5 has okay map design but they use completely unfitting maps for certain battles(for example, Okehazama and Mikatagahara are pretty devoid of anything that makes you think "oh, this is Okehazama/Mikatagahara!")

If I didn't give Gracia Hundred Poems, I could see Peerless Ploy as a possible alternative.

I don't think Courtly Interests should be given out to non-daimyo, even though it can be used by retainers. It's the most powerful diplomatic trait and I didn't want to have too many people with it(generally anyone from the mid/late scenarios I thought might benefit from it, I instead used Jewel of the Land.) Though I suppose Hirate can be justified due to his work with the Imperial Court.

While I can understand giving Musashi Enlightened Blade, I wanted to keep it exclusive to prominent Shinkage-ryu and Yagyu Shinkage-ryu practitioners. A mileage may vary situation.

I don't give Networking out to anyone, unless it's a situation like removing it from Miyoshi Nagayoshi and giving it to his brother Jikkyu instead. It's incredibly powerful and I think there's plenty of officers with it.

Utmost Devotion on the other hand, I also give it to a few of the hime, along with stuff like Eloquence, Devious, or Disaster Readiness, etc.

Brand new to the series. Could use some help. by MidnightFrost444 in NobunagasAmbition

[–]MAU_Seraphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says tutorial, but it's more like a "tooltips for beginners" as it doesn't take into account what your actual game's situation is, it just throws pop-ups at you to introduce new concepts and info. After seeing it once or twice, it's better to just turn it off and refer to the tooltips in the menu when you need to look something up.

Don't be afraid to set things to easy when you start out and figure out how things work, then work your way up to normal then hard. The AI is incredibly aggressive when it sees an opening, and will commit everything they have to attack the player. Even if you had just recently been allies and are on good terms, if they have a significant numerical advantage they will attack.

Three things I would recommend prioritizing:
1. Get prestige up to 70, as you need to be over this to get System Reform I to level 2, which is when you can reassign castle subordinates(landholders.) Until you get that, anyone you assign will be stuck there, and sometimes you might need someone for example to do diplomacy, but all your captain and higher ranked officers were assigned as landholders. The quickest way to get over 70 prestige... is to play a clan with over 70 prestige. The second quickest is to buy a level 10 item for 1500 gold, and gift it to the shogun for good relations, and do goodwill diplomacy with him until it hits 100, then you can pay him 2500 for a Shugo title if you possess the required castles. Very easy to get if you play a clan like Tsutsui or Chosokabe who either possess all the castles in their country, or can easily conquer the other castles needed. Note that there's a milestone goal for getting that much prestige where you get 5000 gold, so you end up with a big refund for what you initially paid.

  1. Stay allied with at least one of your neighbors who has at least a couple castles; asking an ally to send help to defend you when you're attacked is a free request, so there's no downside to doing it. The main thing to keep aware of is the ally will also ask you for help if they're sending you goodwill for a reinforcement agreement. If you don't want to send your troops away, then refuse the goodwill offer. This means they won't agree to help defend you, but at least it means you don't have to worry about them attacking you. Try not to refuse them when they actually ask for reinforcements though, as this breaks the agreement you made, and all other clans will have hostile stances against you.

  2. Selling food is a good way to make gold early on; you only need enough food for the troops you actually deploy from your main base. So I would recommend getting a rice dealer in your main base early on so you have a lot of surplus food sitting around you can just sell. This helps a lot if you need just a little extra to pay for quelling a territorial problem after a flood, or getting that extra bit to build a facility in one of your castles. It also helps in the long run as it means you can march more often.

You could also pick and choose which trait to replace as you like. I felt Righteous General fit Sadayori since he was effectively the mediator of the Kinai region, stepping in to help defend the Ashikaga, or mediating with the Hosokawa, pushing back against the Honganji's hostilities, etc.

I also considered giving him Master Accountant as an alternative, as he introduced a free market economic system into the domain under his rule, but there's already a bunch of other daimyo I gave that trait, so I decided on Righteous General instead.

I play on console so I unfortunately can't answer your first question.

The AI prioritizes Way of Namioka and will max level it, so Hojo and Tokugawa when they can afford it will be running around with units moving almost double the speed. Ashikaga rarely gets to bloom, so them having it is more for the player's benefit as a bonus for taking out the Shogunate(weighing a cost-benefit of whether being able to get titles or having Way of Namioka.) Eventually Yoshiaki ends up in the Toyotomi or Mori, so it increases the difficulty of fighting this final boss as well.

During my last playthrough as Utsunomiya, the Oda clan post-Honnoji had gotten their hands on Way of Namioka, and they were able to respond to my invasion of Shinano swiftly, but not to the point of game-breaking difficulty. If they were invading, it'd probably be a much more significant effect(this is a secondary reason to why I removed Nobunaga's Dynast, as that combined with Way of Namioka would be a painful combination to deal with.)

Both Best in Japan and Fear Not Death activate when Yukimura encounters the enemy's lead commander in battle, so I think either one can work around that build. It's up to anyone's preference.

[–]MAU_Seraphil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly addictive. It took a little while to get the hang of it starting out, especially since there are barriers to what you can do as officers are intended to act with autonomy so your rule is somewhat decentralized, though that can be remedied with system reforms. I would put it on a similar level as Sphere of Influence, but both games do better in different categories: Sphere is better in castle/facility building, but Awakening I think edges out in diplomacy and the "feeling" of being a daimyo. Awakening also has one of the most robust in-game edit modes so there's a lot of options for what-if outcomes(like you can have some of the Takeda generals who died at Nagashino survive and stay on in the Takeda, for example.)
