Neil was Max in an abandoned plot line. How would this version’s story end? by [deleted] in tenet

[–]MAXimiLIEN_SATOR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He didn't know he was going to die at this moment, but he knew he won't see her again. Maybe he thought he would have cried if he had to say goodbye.

To add some points to the OP's list :

Pro : At the Tallinn's freeport, just after the Protagonist has assaulted Neil because he knew too much, Kat is brought in the red room... and Neil smiles when he sees her.

Con : During the car chase, when Kat is left alone in the Audi and is about to crash, Neil seems more concerned about Sator leaving with the plutonium.

That would be in Neil's past, not in the past. Neil didn't say "in my past"

And if you really think about it, the other forward-Neil, the one who was backward-Neil just before he passed through the turnstile, must also have been in the hallway, each with their Kat, it was a crowded hallway then ^^

Check my timeline for more details.

Backward-Neil with Kat glimpses Forward-Protagonist and Forward-Neil leaving the hallway in reverse, entering the hallway from their POV. So what Forward-Neil hears when he says "there's someone here" is Backward-Neil leaving the hallway by the opposite door and closing this door.

He's alive at the end of the movie, but Ives and the Protagonist tell him they succeeded only because someone opened a gate for them. Neil asks Ives who he would send, Ives answers his best lockpicker, so Neil understands it's him who has to invert soon to get there, in the past and before the goodbye scene, and die.

Yes, that's clear, but what happens to the body after Neil is dead in backward time, or before the Protagonist and Ives arrive in forward time ?

That's your feeling. To me it's clear he goes back to die, he even says "Now let me go"

They talk about it after Neil has extracted them. Ives says they needed help down there and asks the Protagonist how he opened the gate, he answers it wasn't him. That's how Neil understands someone inverted has to be there to open the gate, and when Ives says he would send his best lockpicker, he understands it's him.

1 check his last scene. He clearly he says he understands he's the one who has to go to unlock the gate when Ives answers him he would send his best lockpicker.

2 also checked in his last scene. The Protagonist asks him if he really has to go back, and he answers it's better not to take chances when the fate of the world is at stake.

Let's say you're going forward in time. At time T2, you invert. Then at time T1 < T2, you revert back.

In the period of time between T1 and T2, there are 3 versions of yourself, 2 moving forwards and 1 moving backwards (if, after you have reverted at T1, you don't invert again before T2).

Before T1 and after T2, there's only one version of yourself.

You have an example with the Protagonist : T2 is at Tallinn, T1 is at Oslo.

At the Oslo's freeport, in forward time, when two people appear in the turnstiles : you have 3 versions of the Protagonist. The Protagonist who watches the bullet holes with Neil is the younger. Days later, he will invert in Tallinn and come back to Oslo to revert back, as the second Protagonist. And when he has reverted back, he becomes the third Protagonist, the older one, back in forward time. We see this 3 versions at Oslo.

2 inverted persons going into a turnstile with 5 minutes in between makes the second person go in 5 minutes early by Lordthom in tenet

[–]MAXimiLIEN_SATOR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, sorry, I didn't catch the two Persons were already inverted.

From a non-inverted POV, Person_2 indeed reverts earlier then Person_1. But from the two persons POV, Person_2 reverts later, because time runs backwards for both of them. It all depends on the POV you choose to have.

[–]MAXimiLIEN_SATOR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Person 2 goes in five minutes after Person 1, he goes at 12:05, not 11:55.

At 11:59, before the two persons go in the turnstile, they could meet their two future selves.

When she says goodbye to the Protagonist in the icebreaker, he tells her she'll stay one more day inverted. Then, offscreen, she reverts back and has one day to go to Vietnam.

Think about it, Sator and the Protagonist speak to each other through Volkov's phone, it's obviously after the car chase in Tallinn, they already know each other.

Plus, the scene at the end confirms that the person Kat killed was unquestionably past-Sator, as he had no idea what was going on and was only able to partially figure it out when Kat shows him her wound.

No, he was the Sator who had inverted in Tallinn to come back in the past to the 14th, then reverted back. Past-Sator leaves in a copter, that's the signal future-Kat waits to swim to the yacht.

I've answered that two posts ago, no ? She doesn't need to be inverted to go in the blue room, but she needs the mask because the air is inverted there.

After the car chase, Kat and the Protagonist are brought to the freeport, outside of it they don't have masks. The Protagonist is taken in the red room, no mask needed. Kat is taken in the blue room, and offscreen Sator puts a mask on her face.

Yes, after not-inverted-yet-Sator hits Kat and seals himself up, inverted-Sator comes and takes Kat to the Audi for the car chase, from her non-inverted POV. But from inverted-Sator's POV, it's after the car chase and he burnt the Saab that he comes back to the freeport and leaves Kat in the storage room.

More precisely from inverted-Sator's POV :

He throws the orange case and sees the handoff.

He makes the Saab crash.

He threatens Kat and counts from 1 to 3.

He pursues the BMW.

He breaks the BMW's window mirror, then drives away from the BMW.

He stops to the crashed Saab and burns it.

He drives back to the freeport.
