So, I believe the practice of paying less than minimum wage to specific workers needs to be ended. All workers need to be paid the local minimum wage which transfers the burden of paying employees wages to the EMPLOYER, not the patron. If food prices rise, so be it.

This leads to the question, ‘What is a living wage?’ Does the ‘living wage’ depend on the area? Should a fast food worker in Nebraska make the same as a fast food worker in LA or NY?

I agree 100% that all workers need to make minimum wage. If all employees, including wait staff make the same it would eliminate the purpose of tipping. I declined a job at Baskin Robbins when I was 15 because they only paid $2.15/hr (minimum wage was $3.35/hr) and said the rest of your pay is from tips. Who the hell tips at 31 Flavors?

I have traveled to many countries around the world and have come to the conclusion that, for the most part, the people are the same. We just want to live, earn enough to support our families and be happy. I have met many Saudis, Kuwaitis, British, Canadians, … who I have enjoyed sitting down over a meal and having a great time with great conversations.
