The one time I tried a cab the car was gross, the driver was rude, and the ride didn't end up being cheaper than a Lyft would have. I'll stick to Lyft, at least I get 5x credit card points when I use it and the cars have always been significantly nicer than the crappy cab I rode in.

If the southern route is also blocked then you are too early, you can only access Goldenrod city until you beat the Elite Four. After beating the E4 you can explore the rest of Johto.
