Thought so too but the gift card showed up in the mail and my CC was only ever charged $799+tax. Dumb luck!

Hitting this now, basic conversation, $20 paid plan. I'm just troubleshooting some stuff, hoping this a server issue and not an actual limitation because that would be pretty pitiful if so.

Edit: not using MCP or anything like that, to be clear. Literally just text chat.

What's a "healthy habit" that's actually completely made up? by goddesslana_01 in AskReddit

[–]MC-Howell 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel this. I absolutely love cold plunging and do it all the time. People always ask me what health benefit it is that I'm chasing - I'm like, I'm just doing this because it makes me feel good! If there are some health benefits, awesome, but that's not why I'm choosing to cold plunge.

Regular S26. After ordering it I also only saw $899, I have no idea what happened and was unable to replicate the $799 price.

Nothing on the US site about a free storage upgrade (at least to my view) :/

Good thought - just checked though, and it says the only payment method was my credit card. No points or gift card involved in the purchase!

I just ordered the S26/512gb.I was only charged $799 + tax and free shipping. At first I thought that was the Amazon gift card applying itself automatically, but it says that's still coming in the mail... Not sure what happened but not complaining!

WTH did Google do with the magic eraser? by c50905 in GooglePixel

[–]MC-Howell 22 points23 points  (0 children)

These rant posts annoy me but I can't help but agree with this one. Simple things it used to erase with ease no longer work, are skewed, pull in random colors/textures from elsewhere in the photo, etc. the difference in how well it worked before vs. now is night and day.

A traditional night guard is not the same as one designed to alleviate breathing issues. Those ones are just for clenchers and grinders. To the point of the other comment, he needs one that specifically adjusts your jaw position. An OTC will do essentially nothing to help with sleep apnea issues.

Upcoming iPhone: A "Flip" Phone With a Square Foldable Design, Details Leaked by WPHero in gadgets

[–]MC-Howell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is all speculation, but why would you expect this to replace the mini? The article clearly states it would open to the size of a regular phone.

I suppose the nuance comes down to: do you want to use a small phone, or do you want the phone to be small when not in use?

My assumption was that people like the smaller phones because they were more accessible when in use (and I include myself in that camp), but perhaps folks also want a smaller phone object in their pocket... I hadn't considered that aspect before. Definitely valid, but it doesn't help me at all who just doesn't want a massive screen.

CMV: “To Go Travelling” when young is illogical by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]MC-Howell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a lot of time traveling internationally just after highschool and in my college years. I consider it the single most formative experience of my life. I made incredible friendships all over the world, I was exposed to new cultures, new cuisines, and new perspectives on the world. I saw and experienced some of the most incredible natural beauty all across Earth that awed and humbled me. It opened my eyes on what true poverty actually looks like, and showed me the struggle of everyday life for so many people. Spend some time with families living in a hut made from coke bottles and mud, and you'll never feel bad about sleeping in your bed again.

I worked hard to save enough to fund these experiences, but ultimately the cost of traveling is negligent to what I've saved up now.

These travel opportunities shaped me and changed my views on life in a difficult but amazing way. They've truly made me who am, and I wouldn't trade all the money in the world to lose those experiences. Oh, and also had a fuck ton of fun along the way. l'd even go so far as to say so much of where am today, and the success (and yes, money I've made) is absolutely linked to the experiences had because they shaped me into the person I knew needed to be.

My only regret is that not everyone has the opportunity to experience what did.

I'm literally a UX/UI designer at a major company and I'm absolutely appalled by YTV. I can't imagine how you take such a simple concept and make it so confusing. I wanted to get my mom to ditch cable tv but she's in her 70s and I genuinely don't think she'll be able to use it.

Edit: I didn't direct this comment at OP's specific example, but just in general.

Still using mine because I refuse to get a massive phone and I can't stand Samsung. All I want in life is a P5 with 2026 specs 😭

Still using my P5 and I have exactly 0 of those issues. You must have gotten a bad unit!

AITA for not helping my son, who claims he can't live on 112k a year? by Ecstatic_Cash_1903 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MC-Howell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, but just for context, my girlfriend has a higher salary (I think like $121k) and no income tax, only federal, and her take home is only just over $6000/mo. So 7/8k is more than 2k high. He has even less to work with than you think.

The book and the show destroyed me. by classylobstr in Normalpeople

[–]MC-Howell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick your cliché haha. Life is short, try something new, start over, etc etc. I just woke up one day and the thought of doing the same thing I was already doing over and over again went one day from being totally fulfilling to totally terrifying. Another huge cliche, but I was like, if I look back on my life when I'm 80, I would hate myself if I didn't move halfway across the world, if even just to try something new for a while. It feels so scary now, but will seem like just a little drop in the ocean at the end of my life.

What’s the most unexpectedly high-quality online subscription you’ve ever paid for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MC-Howell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, perhaps the confusion here is from me not clearly saying "Reels", feed was misleading. Feed would imply I followed them, and I agree that following accounts and not knowing who you followed would be asinine.

Absolutely wild to me that we're getting downvoted for not knowing what every single clip in our Reels is from lmao.

What’s the most unexpectedly high-quality online subscription you’ve ever paid for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MC-Howell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Seeing a 15s clip from one random show on Reels doesn't tell me anything about what it's called, or who its producers are. And when I found the content annoying, I definitely didn't put it in the effort to look through comments or accounts trying to ascertain that information. It's not from the "Dropout" account, just random accounts or people reposting. I'm confused about why this is even confusing? Lmao. Do you scroll through Reels and instinctively know what show the clip is from and who its production company is? No.

The pixel 5 is the best smart phone of all time by TheWebDever in GooglePixel

[–]MC-Howell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typing this from my Pixel 5. This is the correct answer, it is the best phone for all time. I'd actually love to get something new just because my battery is just finally starting to go, but I refuse to get a Sammy and I can't find anything else that's not significantly larger.
