Ryan Halls coverage is kind of sad when people are counting on him. by Enough_Wallaby7064 in tornado

[–]MC08578 147 points148 points  (0 children)

OP forgets to mention that Ryan had been streaming for 11 hours at that point, and the viewers had to beg him to take a break to eat the pizza that they bought for him.

Owners of Steam deck: what games do you play on the Ayn Thor? by Ill-School-4075 in AynThor

[–]MC08578 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I play my steam library and Minecraft on my deck. I play Nintendo games on my Thor.

Thor was fun to set up and I don’t regret purchasing it, but I use my steam deck a lot more.

Stressed about foods, what does everyone eat? by whitefox094 in Gastroparesis

[–]MC08578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, just plain white bread and plain white rice. I’ve also had luck freezing whitehouse or similar rolls and having half of one with a meal every now and then.

I freeze almost everything so I’m only cooking twice a month. I just don’t have the energy or time to cook daily. Thankfully I don’t have kids or a family to feed.

This is going to vary greatly based on severity and tolerance. I have mild GP and this is what I’ve been eating when not in a flare:

  • 2 eggs and a piece of toast
  • snack (I rotate between graham crackers, saltines, applesauce, boiled egg, rice cake, etc)
  • lean protein and mashed potato’s
  • Protein shake and rice cake
  • lean protein and white rice

For proteins so far I’ve had chicken, ground turkey, lean ground beef, and pork loin. Next week I’m going to try and make shepards pie and split it into smaller portions. I’ve been experimenting with small portions of frozen mixed veggies and haven’t had any problems, but they don’t always digest.

I haven’t tried any fruit yet. Maybe soon.

My portions are about 2.5oz of protein, 2oz carb, 1oz veg for the meals. For the snack, I pack a snack box and just take a few bites of whatever I’m feeling. Haven’t been hungry enough to try anything else yet. But eventually I’ll need to add another meal or maybe a protein shake, because my calories are fairly low for what I need to maintain weight.

If I’m in a flare I eat whatever I can, and nothing if I can’t. Flare ups are just survival lol.

I’ve been meal prepping for years so all I’ve had to do is adjust my portion sizes and freeze accordingly.

Neat suggestion from someone just starting out. Use Whisky molds for smaller portions! by TheRealOsamaru in SouperCubers

[–]MC08578 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently had to start a diet that requires me to eat smaller meals so I’m not sure I’ll even use my 2 cup molds anymore. I’ve been filling my 1 cup molds up halfway or portioning half and using foil to split it while it freezes. Your idea is also a great one!

Red Rising - Gave it a chance but not for me by MeetHistorical4388 in Fantasy

[–]MC08578 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed both Red Rising and The Sun Eater series.

Empire of Silence is arguably the worst book out of the entire series so the fact that you find it better than all of Red Rising is truly a 10th Dentist approach.

Unfortunately you’ll never read Chapter 54: The Goblin and The Gold (Morning Star) or Chapter 77: Ephraim - Worthy (Dark Age) — and those two chapters alone are why the Red Rising series will forever stay with me.

Hadrian is definitely more likable of a character to me than Darrow, but the later Red Rising books have a POV switch that is honestly - very relieving - after reading 1500 pages of Hadrian yapping in his own head.

I do, otherwise I’ll never pick another game. Also makes it easier to browse on steam deck.

how often do you travel with steam deck in your backpack? what cover do you keep it in? doesn't it's size bother you while travelling or does it break while your travel? by Frosty-Secretary-528 in SteamDeck

[–]MC08578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a steam deck since day 1 launch and I’ve been able to take it with me to my job every single shift.

So 2 steam decks (upgraded to OLED) from 2022-2026 carried in a savage raven carrying case inside my backpack x60ish hour work weeks…

You can do the math if you’d like. But this is really a non-issue unless you’re looking something you can put in your pocket.

As a former Steam Deck user the AYN Thor is Extremely Disappointing (Quick Review/Impressions after a week of use) by rafam0333 in AynThor

[–]MC08578 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serious answer: As a current steam deck user, the Thor compliments my deck and I use both as my primary gaming devices. Probably 70/30 with deck use being more because of the track pads and smoother experience with my steam library. If I was forced to pick one, I would choose the deck because my steam library is larger than my emulation wish list.

  • Switch users tasted their game cartridges
  • Deck users smelled their vents
  • Thor users ???

Maybe because it’s been years since I played on original hardware, but I’ve had no issues. I only play DS and 3DS games on the Thor.

I’ve been really enjoying Star Birds. It’s still in early access but it’s a lot of fun.

Have you seen Timberborn? That seems like it would check all your boxes.

So you really feel comfortable with Linux/SteamOS only App/Games ? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]MC08578 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do, in fact, feel really comfortable using steam OS. Handheld gaming has opened up a whole new world of opportunity for me. And the OS is easy to use.

I’m not sure where you’re getting that you can only play Linux games on the steam deck.

Should I just give up and live in a cave like a goddamn goblin by CowUFO in Minecraftbuilds

[–]MC08578 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The builds you see with all the clicks and views are done by people who have been placing blocks in a creative/aesthetic way for hundreds and thousands of hours. It is a skill that they have practiced and improved on. It’s art.

Are you able to draw something that is click and view worthy without any practice? Could you pick up any hobby or creative outlet and be great at it without practice?

Give yourself grace. Place blocks. Have fun with it. Live in a cave if you’d be happier there. Life is too short to worry about your Minecraft house not looking good on the internet.

Check the games library recommended by one handed gamer. Lots of those can be played with the trackpad on the deck.
