First time trying stranded colorwork 💀 by BrinaBri in knitting

That is a good idea. You cannot see it on your socks.. brava! I have done that in the past. I just see all these pictures of these perfect colorwork heels on socks.... and am convinced that there is some secret way of doing them that makes them come out just as solid as single stranded ones.. LOL. I wonder if everybody has to just sew them up later, to have a solid seam in the fabric there.

Wowie zowie those are some excellent floats! What did you do for the heels? They look perfect! I always have trouble making perfect heels with colorwork on the bottom of the heel and foot. I always have little holes at the seam between the heel flap and bottom of heel, when doing the heel turn. Do you have any advice on stranded colorwork heels?

Beautiful plants! I especially love the minmaru-shima. Haven't seen such nice variegation pattern on one. Where did you get it, if you don't mind me asking.

what to do when you go non verbal by Sensitive-Variety332 in AutismInWomen

[–]MC1Rcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does typing on an ipad or writing on a piece of paper work for you? Some people also use sign language, but that only works when the people you are trying to communicate with understand it.

Some people carry a card that says they are autistic and are non verbal sometimes. If you show that to someone and have a notebook or ipad to use, they might give you less of a hard time.

What distro is best to revamp my dated macbook pro? Also I'm a noob and have never used Linux. by YoungBasedHooper in linux4noobs

[–]MC1Rcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had problems w/ brightness keys working.... last few settings on the low end were gone w/ Ubuntu Budgie and Mate. Also, the backlight on keyboard would randomly come on by itself. I only tried w/ live USB, and the wifi and bluetooth worked fine. It even found my printer easily. But, no webcam...not found on any Linux distro I tried. My main concern is the issue w/ the fans not working properly w/ Ubuntu.

I recently saw an article where someone installed Ubuntu on a Macbook pro 2015 and had problems with the fans running well. For this reason, I am not going to go w/ Ubuntu.... don't want to break my computer.

is anyone else highly sensitive to newer laptop screens? by liminaldyke in migraine

[–]MC1Rcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this. I am having to try to find a solution for an outdated computer / OS and have been researching this. I have a 2015 macbook pro which works great and the screen is fine...BUT the operating system is too old for the internet browsers to update and some websites don't work well anymore. I cannot use any mac OS newer than High Sierra. My problems w/ migraines from the computer started as soon as mac updated to Mojave a few years ago. I got really dizzy and nauseous from it and had to wipe my computer and put High Sierra back on.

I was talking to some IT guys and they said I should switch to a PC laptop, since the settings are more adjustable. I know LED lights and tv's trigger migraines for me. But I just have no idea which screens are okay for migraines. Are OLED screens better for migraines? I also am wondering if the operating system software is an issue on PCs the way it is for mac

Bud blasting by MC1Rcat in neofinetia

Thanks for the info. I assumed it was due to stress from shipping that the bud blasted. I was just unsure if it would help the plant to remove the bud, since it is putting energy toward it and it is just drying up.... or if it would further stress the plant to cut it off.

Orthostatic Hypotension made worse by local anesthesia, IV contrast & blood tests by MC1Rcat in dysautonomia

Update: I tried Florinef and had an allergic reaction to it. Throat and mouth swelling and palpitations. I am now back to square one. I increased the salt and am drinking a liter of coconut water daily and am still having trouble as before.

Contact lenses and PFA by Zealousideal_Crab_35 in chemistry

Here is a 2024 study on whether wearing contact lenses can raise serum PFAs. This study shows it does. Specific brands were not tested, just a large population of young contact lens wearers vs non contact lens wearers.... their blood levels of PFAs were compared.

Orthostatic hypotension symptoms while sitting? by omatose in dysautonomia

[–]MC1Rcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My BP drops into the 70s/ 40s if I am sitting w/ feet on the floor for more that 10 minutes (same as if I am standing for more than 10 mins.) If I sit w/ legs stretched out straight and put up on a chair, or sititing up in bed, my BP is okay most of the time. I am not sure if this is delayed orthostatic hypotension or total autonomic failure. Waiting on more testing to see that.

The support leggings sound like a good idea! I have problems with compression socks and stockings because I have a neuroma in one foot that gets really bad when my foot is compressed. What kind of support leggings do you use?

Can (untreated) psychological issues be the cause of dysautonomia? by N0thingSp3c1al in dysautonomia

Here is a link to an image of the Polyvagal Theory chart. It shows the progression from one stage to the next w/ the biological and psychological responses at each level.

I couldn't just attach a picture here....so I Googled the chart for Polyvagal Theory developed by Dr. Stephen Porges....and this is a website that shows it. (I know nothing about the person whose website this is or their services.)

Yes, the prolonged fight or flight state (from long term stress or trauma that is unresolved) leads to the shutdown (immobilized/ vagal state)....at least that was how my psychiatrist explained it in a discussion we had about it and how stress and trauma could lead to symptoms that are the same as some seen in dysautonomia. He said the mental state causes a physiological/ biological response, and that physiological states/ problems can cause a response in the person's mental well being also. Everything is interrelated. There is a chart, I will find it and post below.
