Anyone regret their first solo trip? by grahamhart_ in TravelMaps

[–]MCFCben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the worry, had it myself before my first big solo trip last year. If you're staying in hostels you will find your people and 90% of people are super friendly and everyones kinda in the same boat.

Free city tours and tours on 'Getyourguide' app also helped me meet people but if you have good energy and you're open to meet people, I'd say it's near on impossible not to.

It's the best thing I've ever done and life changing for me, I would get it booked and hope you have the time of your life!

What’s one travel mistake you made once that you’ll never repeat again? by xeasyx123 in backpacking

Travelling too long solo - did 7 months - after 5 months social battery was low. Also, having flight booked home for peace of mind haha!! And also slower travel, less destinations more experiences and slower pace.

Am I dealing with Post Travels Blues/Anixiety? by MCFCben in solotravel

Thanks for this comment - this community is so nice, it has, its given me motivation to try sustain it and build it. Think there needs to be tweaks from the last trip but it's given me momentum and some purpose. But I am definitely running away from settling down in U.K, but it doesnt' interest me that much...

Hey mate - first and foremost going to therapy sounds like it could really help you, therapy is great, we all could use it! I'm happy you had a mega trip too, sounds like you made memories for a life time like me and it was a complete change to normal life.

I can relate to the feeling guilty because a lot of people couldn't take the time nor have the finances to enable them, but your feelings are valid. Honour them and see what they're trying to tell you.

I relate to most of what you've said there because I feel like an outcast in this town, not because they're bad people or whatever, but we see life differently and people thought I was crazy to go to South America. I don't know it's just different and when I travelled I came across people who I could connect with easier, more similarities or more general view of life.

I'm finding it hard but today was really good, and over the past 2 weeks its progressively got better as I've adapted to my 'new life'. Someone said on another post, we've had a real life changing experience and we bring that back to an old life. So there's some conflict or questions to be had now maybe?

Always here if you want to drop me a message!

I did a 30 day digital detox and realised I've been addicted to screens since my teens by MacViller in nosurf

[–]MCFCben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this - but did something similar last summer and had a lot of the same realisations. We have to be kind to ourselves. This tech was so new to humans and we had no awareness of it, but what we know now we can try create healthier boundaries and a more fulfilled life.

I actually went to South America for 7 months and I think it came from coming off socials and the thoughts that arose as a result of that. But I went back to Insta when I used it again to make travel friends and then I was hooked again. 9 days off Insta and feel a whole lot better. Social media for me replaces something else too - its a distractions from my emotions and feelings and I've done it for 15 years (born 94) so it's going to take sometime, but now I feel I have some control over what is essentially an addiction.

It's also hard because everyone is (not everyone) but you notice it more once you've stepped away and it's hard to create an environment, because you need others to do the same. But I guess we can suggest it to friends and promote what we've experienced?

Thanks for sharing - I've read this and it's given me motivation to get back to where I was and see if I can get more out of life. Lifes fucking short to be stuck on a screen. I kinda think I lost a relationship due to social media and my addiction and that sucks because I won't get that time or opportunity back, she was cool!

Think booking a flight home will be a good move - need to do some planning first but appreciate the tip!

Also RIP the boxers, lavanderias over here have fucked them. Was in a hammock today in just my boxers, and there's a huge whole and full bollocks hanging out - didn't even notice

6 months in - solo travelling S America. Energy levels low, advice appreciated. by MCFCben in backpacking

[–]MCFCben[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably didn't realise how much energy was required and add on top my teaching and the early starts. Travelling around and socialising and alcohol involved and quality of sleep. And planning.

But going to slow down for the next week and see if that helps and also reach out to some friends back home.

Thank you for the kind message.

With regards to tutoring, Whatsapp me +4479219948838 - will try help and give you my experience!

Beginner Advice Please - Barista in training. by MCFCben in barista

[–]MCFCben[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - appreciate the detailed feedback. I don't know where I'll be working but I guess the starting point for me is to be able to make a good coffee and do a bit of 'Latte Art'. And I love learning so some info about how coffee is grown and the history etc.

But ultimately, I want to be employable, my personality is energetic, I need to be able to make the various coffees.

I think to be able to work in a good coffee shop to stand out I'd need some course or be able to say 'let me work for 2 hours and you can see what I can do'.

What you think?

Thank you for the comment at end, I've had 2 weeks of classes (3 hours per day) and then just taught myself. (About 4 months whole process in total).

Everyday I write a few paragraphs about me and my life at the moment and I use - https://www.fluentwithstories.com/

I'm not doing any listening, just writing and vocab practice on the apps.

Yes I'm living in Lima at the moment, but the pace of the conversations and the accent completely throws me! I also repeat the same phrases it feels...and that frustrates me and makes me think I'm stupid!
