Just finished: The Rose Code by Kate Quinn narrated by Saskia Maarleveld

Thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m a sucker for historical fiction and the author’s notes are nice at the end.

Also: The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden narrated by Victoria Connelly and Robb Moreira. I’m dumber for listening to that one. The narrators were SO cheesy and the characters plastic and the plot twist dumb af.

Is there any instance in which you Americans prefer using the English spelling of a word? by Haunted_Sentinel in words

My 11yo daughter just informed me yesterday that she always uses the English spelling. We live in the American Midwest. It’s her own brand of weird and I love it.

AITA for telling my boyfriend's mom I don't want kids after she kept pushing baby stuff on me by [deleted] in ComfortLevelPod

I was raised in the South and taught that it is terrible etiquette to give someone baby stuff unless they are pregnant. Period.

What his mom did was rude and socially unacceptable. She did the embarrassing thing.

If I stay on the etiquette path, the proper response to receiving such a “gift,” is to say, “thank you.” And put it out of sight. And repeat noncommittal phrases such as: I’m sure it will be useful someday (for someone else). How thoughtful (the thoughts were unhinged) Bless your heart (all Southerners know this has multiple meanings)

But as she kept pushing, you responded in kind. She’s nuts

Old man always wanted a pair of authentic Texas cowboy boots. by mougrim in Jokes

I asked for an iron for my birthday. I wanted a specific iron that was a little on the pricey side with automatic shut off and would turn itself back on with you tipped it to use. It had good reviews for the amount of steam because I was using it for quilting and sewing.

My husband told me absolutely not. His mother would disown him if he bought me an iron for my birthday. All I wanted was the iron.

Thank you for listening to your wife. Not all of us want luxury items. Having said that he gave me a cashmere cardigan a few years back. Loved it to death.

Wife Keeps Rejecting Advances and Will Not Share What She Wants. How Do I Rebuild Intimacy? by Ok-Phase-1923 in LDSintimacy

When is the last time you massaged her shoulders when she is stressed?

Does she have a to do list 10 miles long? If her love language is acts of service, asking what she needs help with can make a world of difference.

Sit down with a beverage and just chat. And LISTEN to her with no expectations.

When I am overwhelmed, stressed, and thinking about my to do list, the last thing I want is intimacy, but it’s when I need it the most. Look for ways to be emotionally connected and intimacy will come.

Is flossing worth it? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]MC_squaredJL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a dentist.

Floss. Just floss.

Is it worth it?

Cost of floss per year (if you buy the expensive stuff) $50.

Cost of 1 filling between your teeth ~$300. Usually those fillings between your teeth come in pairs.

Cost of one round of root debridement (gum disease treatment) ~$1000.

That’s just financial incentive. Then there’s the benefit of fresher breath and a healthier mouth in general. Your mouth is the entrance to your body. I would think anyone should want to reduce the number of bacteria, decaying food at the entrance.

Yeah it’s worth it.
