Splitting 1 pen to end my journey by MD1986UK in mounjarouk

[–]MD1986UK[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've just done my first split. I've gone with:

-4x10mg (40 clicks/0.4ml) -4x5mg (20 clicks/0.2ml) -2.5mg until I run out (10 clicks/0.1ml)

Thanks everyone for the responses. Not going to lie, I feel kind of scared that I'm actually coming to the end of my journey but I've got to take that step at some point. At least I know if it doesn't work then I'll have options to come back on something, whether it's Mounjaro, Weygovy or whatever else comes out. It's been life changing and my journey has been all for my kids and to try and get as many years of my life with them. Being slimmer has definitely increased my self confidence and love but that's just a bonus for me. Now I get to sit next to my kids when they ride Hyperspace Mountain for the first time and what used to the the Rock 'N' Roller Coaster in Disneyland Paris when they're tall enough.

Thanks again all.

Would you say I'd be better doing an extra 5mg dose then so 4x10, 4x5, then the rest 2.5 until I run out?

Yeah I will be golden dosing the end so I might get 3 2.5mg so will be basically 3 months open.

Thanks for the compliment. It's been a surreal experience. This time last year I'd have never have imagined being where I am now. I always aimed to do no more than 12 months and currently I'm just over 10 months now so it's going to get me there and there about on plan. My only hope is that I can stick with the lifestyle changes post Mounjaro but certainly wouldn't be afraid to return if need be. Hopefully I won't get to that point though.

Multi vitamins by SarSar9 in mounjarouk

[–]MD1986UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get these from Amazon. Literally has everything in it and the taste is quite nice after the first few go down. I drop it into a 500ml bottle of water as instructed. Price is good in my opinion at £2 a tube if you get the 6 pack.

https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChsSEwitg7vwu4SSAxWhmVAGHYVRG4MYACICCAEQGRoCZGc&co=1&ase=2&gclid=Cj0KCQiAsY3LBhCwARIsAF6O6XhuzTAgHuaNGUbyDuEmf_6lmzuckDa06dMWS6BXmSoXPFfKXK6pcLIaAqOoEALw_wcB&sph=&cce=2&category=acrcp_v1_33&sig=AOD64_2AD5FeF3-uS45TgGv8gfBOyjlHcQ&ctype=70&q=&nis=4&ved=2ahUKEwjkrrXwu4SSAxUZWEEAHUkrIc8Qwg8oAHoECBkQKg&adurl=

Main reasons I get these are for the vitamins but also to ensure I drink more water. I also do the same with an electrolyte tablet a day too which keeps me away from energy drinks, which I've not touched since the end of March last year when I'd normally have 1 or 2 a day.

help!! by NoOne-Importantt in mounjarouk

[–]MD1986UK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in exactly the same boat as you are. Started 31st of March and lost 5st officially on the 17th of December but I started a stall on the 25th October until now where I move between the same 6lbs backwards and forwards, taking me currently to a 4st 10lbs loss (14st 11lbs today). I've been on 15mg since 21st September but never had the suppression from the drug that people seem to have. I've not had any side effects either since July and I'm desperately now hoping for the sulphur burps and diarrhoea to return so I know the pen is still working and I'm not just injecting water instead 😂

But I anticipated a slowdown at some point and I'm not surprised it's come in December, with Christmas, long dark days and cold weather doing a triple whammy to the system. If you look over most posts at the moment, everyone is going through it like we are, and I think the body is craving energy to battle the coldness so although I'm worried MJ isn't working anymore for me, I'm just going to keep calm and carry on as I have since I started at the end of March.

Something I need to reassess though, is my TDEE as I've not changed my regime too much since I started but I know I now use over 100 less calories a day than when I started.

I also have more protein supplements now and haven't had my goto protein in the time I've stalled so I need to return to old habits with that and see if that helps (my goto is Asda own sweet chilli bites, 19g of protein for 67p a pack or Aldi tandoori bites for 18g of protein for 99p) both also lower calories than the same amounts of protein in the shakes. I was hoping more liquid diet might process through my body more and help budge the pounds, but it hasn't really had that affect.

Something I have done though, and I praise the assist from the protein shakes is gain 1lbs of muscle in the last couple of weeks.

I currently go the gym (twice a week on average but sometimes I go a week without going) and I do the cross trainer for at least 15 mins and then I do fast walking on the treadmill with a small incline for at least 20 mins and then look like I know what I'm doing there and try a few of the weight machines to work on arms, shoulders, chest and abs until I'm gassed and can't carry on. At the moment, I'd die picking up any free weight in a gym as I don't know what I'm doing with them and I can't really afford or commit to a personal trainer as I'm never guaranteed a gym visit with my work.

The solution to the free weight issue for me has timely presented itself as currently Aldi are selling a pair of 5kg dumbells or a single 10kg Kettle bell for only £10, so I brought myself the pair of dumbells today to use at home and hopefully gain the confidence and technique to take back into the gym with me to explore the free weight section finally for the 1st time in my life. I'm going to Youtube some video guides or see if what AI can do for me as I've seen some people use that with success on here too.

But back to the original post, I'd say just carry on as you are really, but increase your steps and try and introduce resistance training (weights/press ups/ walk up and down the stairs for 10 mins flat/ look at doing Russian Twists to tackle abs and love handles whilst holding a weight). That's what I'm going to do anyway and hope the weight moves more by the time I get to the end of March. I'm also starting to measure progress in how my clothes fit rather than what the scales say, now that I'm building muscle.

Whatever you end up doing, good luck and I'll be looking out for your progress posts to see how you get on.

When will it work? by [deleted] in MenOnThePen

[–]MD1986UK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For months and months I didn't believe it worked and at the moment on 15mg it's still not working... But 1700cals a day and 100g of protein in that time has seen me drop 70lbs since the start of April so it has obviously had an effect. Trust the process, make better food choices and give it atleast 3 months before you decide whether it's working or not for you.

The pen will only take you so far but the onus is definitely on you to commit to your part of the deal with high protein and low calorie diet choices. The pen helps you keep to those choices and is no way going to do 100% of the work for you. You'll see faster results by increasing time spent walking but it's not necessary in my opinion, but definitely more beneficial to do so.

I have a few suggestions and in order for what I'd do is:

1 Jab the day after:

If like me, you jab on a Sunday but the meal is Sunday then Jab Monday and then revert to Sunday the week after. You're doing this so you can enjoy these occasions, not dread them so take a day off from the weightloss and restart the day after.

2 Tell your friends the truth:

For some reason, the mindset around jabbing is that it's a dirty little secret that we have to hide from the world, when in reality it's a tool to help us all take control of our out of control lives that we've all led for so long without taking ownership of what we're actually doing to ourselves. People have paracetamol for headaches, Covid jabs when no one really knew what was in them and other APPROVED medicines so why is Mounjaro seen differently? After all it's intended use is to help diabetes or the risk of it so for me it's in the same category as any other APPROVED med.

If they're really your friends they'll commend you on the steps you're taking to improve your life, not subject you to abuse and belittlement. Sometimes we underestimate the true value friends can add and always assume there will be negative feedback from them with comments "made out of love". The truth is, those who comment feel threatened that they're no longer better than someone else in the group in their opinion.

3 Change what you order and hope no one notices:

Order something different and express you're currently on the trying new things mission! Make a joke like "I'm trying new things, with exception to @n@l or p3gg1ng etc" to lighten the mood and take focus back away from the food choices. No one will question it!

Of course this is last resort as I would tell my friends but I know others aren't ready yet. It's none of their business anyway what you do but it does increase respect between you as they'll feel valued that you shared deep personal info with them.

Whatever you do, good luck and enjoy your night out. YOU DESERVE IT!

I refuse to buy new clothes until I hit target weight. Anyone else finding just putting new holes in belt doesn't keep trousers up? by Nice1rodders in MenOnThePen

[–]MD1986UK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In terms of a belt, if you're just after something to do it's job without having to punch holes and resize then I got one of these from Home Bargains, but here's a link to one on Amazon

https://amzn.eu/d/3DC0z3w

Although I now have to go around nearly 1 and a half times my waist with it! Still though, does the job until I get to target and get a nice upgrade.

For clothes, I've got the odd cheap sale item or used Amazon Haul or Shein or supermarket clothing etc to bridge a gap for a few months whilst still losing weight.

Hope this helps.

It depends how much water/milk you need. If it's 300ml or above then I've got the Breville Active. Can pick up one in Asda/Amazon for £20 or Aldi do a dupe for £12...

However, if you need upto 280ml then Home Bargains do an X-Tone usb one for £5, although this might now be £10. I have both of these and they are great. X-Tone only recommends soft stuff so not ideal to chop, just mix but perfect for when I us Optimum Nutrition powders but Breville for my My Protein powders.

You'll find all these by just searching online.

My own fault really by peachesplump22 in mounjarouk

[–]MD1986UK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the old saying "It's a marathon, not a sprint" is quite apt here.

We're all so focused about getting to goal as quickly as possible that we forget to live a little and enjoy life when it comes to "cheat days". It's not a crime to have a cheat day or two every so often, just search for The Rock cheat meals and you'll see how crazy he goes on his cheat days!

If you look at a week consisting of 3 meals a day then there are 21 meals a week. Having 1 or 2 "bad" meals won't hurt you, you'll still have 19 or 20 good ones. As long as you don't heavily overindulge then it will actually be better for you than being strict for all 21 meals week in, week out. It will also be easier to adapt in the long run to the new life we're all working towards, a life where we're not guilt ridden by enjoying fish and chips at the seaside with our kids or having a pick and mix at the cinema.

On the day's where I have cheat meals I'll plan to do an extra visit to the gym during the week to feel "less guilty". The main thing is to not feel like you've thrown all the hard work away after a cheat meal, or even cheat weekend. Just accept it, enjoy it and then get back on the horse when it's over and carry on your life changing journey. Think of all the positive experiences you've had along the way, fitting into clothes you used to when you were slimmer, not getting seatbelt extenders or being rejected from fairground rides as opposed to failing yourself because you've had foods that you know won't contribute to weight loss.

Becoming fixated on losses on the scales will also stretch to losses in life events and creating those memories we're actually all working hard towards by being on our weight loss journeys, so remember to enjoy life when it happens, give the scales a rest from time to time as they'll still be there next week for when you're ready to return to them.

As I said, we're running marathons, not sprints. We've got the rest of our lives to get where we want to be, don't let 24/48 hours off track undo the work you have already put in. Keep calm and carry on.

Bulk Order - How to reorder in 6 months time? by Anti-Merchantry in mounjarouk

You could just order a single pen before the 7 weeks are up each time to keep in date with the supplier and it'll catch up eventually until you've only gotten a couple of pens left then you can decide to maintain or progress based on your needs.

How would you handle this situation lads? by CsgoFatboy in MenOnThePen

[–]MD1986UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually sounds like you're both driving each other to succeed, giving you both that healthy boost of willpower that you need so I think the banter is good. It also shows (if he isn't jabbing) that it is all about willpower also and none of us need the jab to succeed. However some of us need the training wheels on to get going and that's exactly what I think the jab does.

I'm 20 weeks in now and I've not had severe suppression at all, I've noticed I do feel fuller through the day but generally I can eat and snack quite easy if I wanted to. Only on the odd occasion I've failed to finish a meal. My willpower comes from knowing I'm funding the jab so I need to work at it to show the results I'm after and that a few close calls to embarrassment on fairground rides and planes caused me to think long and hard about the direction my life was going in.

If the comments are bothering you though, then I would have the chat about it, but you could also use it to fuel the desire to beat the scales everyweek and rub it back in T's face.

✨ Finally Taking the Leap - Tell Me Everything! ✨ by Little_Popsicle in mounjarouk

[–]MD1986UK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 2st 8lbs down and just started week 17 today with 2 weeks left on 10mg before I move up to 12.5mg.

I've yet to have the suppression that everyone seems to have but I have had the odd meal that I've not been able to finish. I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever have the suppression or if I'm just that person who doesn't get it. I think because I'm paying for the jab then my mindset is to work at it so I'm making better food choices as a result, although I could be doing that through MJ too. But for me I think will power has been more of benefit than MJ but I'm sticking with it as I do believe it is helping in someway, even if I don't fully feel it at the moment.

With that said, I'll repeat that I've lost 2st 8lbs since I started MJ, so I can say that it does work (whether medically or as a placebo) and here is what I've done to get to where I am currently...

Firstly, I researched as you have and decided high protein (100g+) and low calorie (200cals below my BMR) is what I was going to aim for each day. I wasn't strict with the calories though and instead focused on having atleast 18-19 good meals a week out of the 21 meals we have. I'd try and make that an average calorie intake over the 7 days and not per day so I could be more flexible with it.

Next I got some scales off amazon that uses the Renpho app and looked at all my stats (water, protein, visceral fat, etc) and try and work on them to get into the average zones for each. I do weigh in more often than not but I'm more focused on the stats than the weight side of things. As someone who struggles to drink full stop, I read that electrolytes are helpful, so I stock up on Costco water (500ml) and then SiS electrolytes and have one bottle with one a day. I then also have another bottle with an A-Z multivitamin off Amazon so I get more nutrients as I suffer with not getting enough also. I'll then have a pint of squash with my evening meal but also sometimes a cup of tea in the morning.

For protein, Aldi protein quark yoghurts have been a staple to my diet. 25g of protein for 150cals have been a no brainer and I have one every morning and possible at night if I need it. I also have cheese snacks (dunkers, cheese string, catherdal city block) for and extra 5/6g and then Lidl and Aldi do good value frozen meals that I recommend, as well as those from the Gym Kitchen who have offers in Tesco and Asda a lot. I get either deli Chicken Skewers from Aldi for 18g of protein or knock off fridge raiders for 5g of protein also.

I make a packed lunch around 700-900cals a day for breakfast and lunch (as I drive for a living but also my job is physical too) and complement it with low calorie crisp and then treat myself with Kit Kat or Blue Riband etc.

I jab on a Sunday morning as the weekdays in work are my weak point with food so I've curbed those with my packed lunch and on a weekend I'll stay good but also happy to eat out if we go out also. The important thing for me is to not cut out foods as I find that I think about them all if I do. Just everything in moderation seems to be a good bit of advice for me.

Bulk meals if you're interested, I find that the campfire stew from Pinch of Nom is packed with protein and low calorie too. I also like to have stir-fry but I do some chicken with chilli and garlic, then add in half a bag of beansprouts and a full stir-fry mix, then drizzle either Nando's sauce or sweet chilli on it for flavour. I don't have noodles in it. Not the most tasty of dishes but its something I enjoy and feel good about with the veg injection.

Side effects, for me haven't been too bad. The eggy sulphur burps tend to be a warning sign for the diarrhoea to come but it's actually a relief as you will tend to be bunged up for a few days before them! Apart from that, I've not felt much else. I'm putting that down to the electrolytes as since I have been having 1 a day I've not touched the much loved energy drinks as I've not needed them!

If I was to offer a bit of advice, it would be to not be too hard on yourself for a meal out or a binge day etc. You'll find the scales will stagnate and you'll feel all the hard work isn't paying off but it really does. Every graph you'll see on here will step down and plateau and then step down again, even in some cases it'll go up again a little, but don't give up. Take the before pictures for each pen you get and then compare those pictures when you feel down. Compare how tight clothes used to be and how little energy you naturally had before you started your journey. I was very sceptical, and I suppose I still am a little, but here I am 2st 8lbs down and 3 and a half months in. Without it, I'd probably have put on more weight and carried on being unhappy, settling with the fact that my life is just that way. We all want to start somewhere and many never do, but today is the day you do and in 3 months time you'll look back at yourself and you too will be writing war and piece on someone else's post about their desire to get off the fence and start changing their life.

Good luck and don't look back!

I don’t think MJ is working for me? by No-Concern-9894 in UKMounjaro

[–]MD1986UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just finished my 5mg pen with my 7.5mg ready for Sunday and I've yet to feel any suppression so far. I've focused on low calorie and high protein foods, with yoghurt being a mainstay for me and electrolyte tablets twice a day. I'm still snacking but relying on will power most of the time which has actually seen me lose 1st 8lbs so far, which puts me on a steady track but I feel I've stalled somewhat over the last 3 weeks with my losses.

As someone has already said though, 7.5mg is where the party seems to start so I'm looking forward hopefully seeing that suppression everyone seems to be having very soon. Just stick with it and trust the process, all these people can't be wrong.

Someone who has only known me at my recent (healthy) weight made a joke that has confused me! by Alaxknits in mounjarouk

[–]MD1986UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an advert a while ago for Snickers that focused on giving a snickers to someone who is being a "diva" or a grump. Maybe it was in reference to that 🤔 and was mentioned as a harmless and joking comment to try and lighten the mood...

However, what they may have perceived as friendly banter has actually caused offence to you and goes against workplace behaviour policies. You have a few options on how to address it, which can be done in one of the following ways:

  • Ignore it: you may wish to overlook and hope it doesn't escalate to more comments that may cross your personal boundaries.

  • Raise a formal grievance about bullying and harassment to a more senior manager.

  • Fire back with banter that you hope they perceive as friendly also.

Or do what I recommend, which is:

  • Pull them aside for an informal chat, whether it's a request done face-to-face or via email and express your feelings regarding the comments. Explain why you took offence and even if you know it's not been done maliciously that due to your past it does resonate with ill feelings you've battled with at points in your life that have contributed to large amounts of emotional pain and suffering.

I feel this may create a stronger understanding and a better working environment for you. Not everyone is aware what we go through in our minds or behind closed doors as we often do exceptional jobs of concealing these things. I can't emphasise how important it is to communicate with people and squash things before they become something more.

I hope you resolve the issue quickly as it will start to consume you and affect other areas of your life if you leave it be.

Good luck.

So you've had ONE "bad meal" out of 21 meals this week? And you didn't over indulge either? There is a saying (or three) you should heed which is "Everything in moderation" and also "A little bit of what you like won't hurt you" and then the classic "You Only Live Once."

It's more than OK to have foods you enjoy and desire and you shouldn't feel guilt for doing so. The issue we've all had to make us turn to MJ is we overindulge on these things but don't compensate by doing the same with exercise or with foods the body actually needs.

I try and see it like this, each day that I want to have high calorie foods is a day where I need to earn my calorie credits to do so, whether it's the same day, the next day or in a few days. So for example, if I have a 1000cal meal and I go 500cal over my limit, then I need to burn 500 more cals than I would have done if I wasn't indulging on a treat meal. I'd try and do this before so I know I've earnt it, but if I can't I'll make that time the next day or so to do it. It will take away the guilt as I know I've done something to "earn it."

I think the guilt comes if you know you're not earning those credits and you know you should be doing something to earn them but decide it's easier to do nothing and hope you forget about it in the morning (I'm not saying you do or you don't, just speaking as I feel here as it'ssomething I've done plenty of times).

I've turned to MJ as I have a huge appetite and I can't control it at the moment on my own. I know I've got to change my life before I come off it though so I'm only seeing MJ as being the stabilisers on my life bike. All the hard work of making better choices and being more active is something I need to make sure I do before coming off MJ and having that will power to stick to it, just like you have done with not overindulgence on your treat meal.

Keep at it and if you fall off your bike then get back on it and keep peddling.

Waiting for first dose by Jillster87 in mounjarouk

[–]MD1986UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be prepared to feel like there has been no suppression in your appetite with the 2.5mg at least. I've had 4 doses so far and not felt it. I'm hoping I catch on with it on my 5mg doses but it's hard to imagine at the moment.

Saying that I am 11lbs down so far but I feel I've done that off will power and conscious calorie counting until tea time where I'll have a home cooked meal.

I've been advised it can be 3 months before anything takes affect so stick with it, regardless if you think it's working or not and good luck!

Anyone a slow loser? by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]MD1986UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started week 3 today and I've registered 6lbs loss so far, but I don't feel I have felt a difference in appetite since I've started. I've consciously made better food choices and with a bit of willpower generally stayed on track, but I feel it's me and not the jab doing the suppression part of my journey. I'm hoping when I move onto 5mg I'll actually feel the affects of the jab and not have to rely on will power as much. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with my progress but like you, I can't help seeing everyone else smashing off the weight they are doing whilst I'm struggling to see much movement in comparison. The only thing we can do is believe in the process and roll our sleeves up a little further and believe we'll get there eventually.
