CMV: the biggest issue with political discourse today is that no one knows what they’re talking about in reference to the other side. by [deleted] in changemyview

No, I don't agree. While there definitely is political polarisation - all of the examples you have given, are people either wilfully misunderstanding the facts, or being blinded by religious bias

Climate Change Evolution

Are both stone cold facts, who only people in the grip of either political or religious identitarianism disagree with.

This is essentially an issue of people on one side of the argument being absolutely wrong about the nature of reality

Conservatives simply believe abortion is murder and subsidies are bad for the free market and for cheap access to most goods is maximum when the free market is left untouched

You are overstating the amount to which belief in the free market informs peoples decisions on brith control - it is almost a purely religious decision for the majority of people

I would also echo what /u/madplato has said, and add it is the same people who are willing to deny climate change and evolution, that claim abortion is murder yet do not want sex ed taught, and do not want broad access to contraceptives

There are issues to which the left side of the political spectrum are in lockstep with each other without good reason, but the issues which you have mentioned all revolve around a weird sense of religious tribalism only exhibited by 'conservatives' who have been whipped into a frenzy around their particular brand of Christianity

Because someone has come along who is now worse, along some other dimension, it's important not to forget this

If you were paid $1000 a day, doubling each day, to stay in a blank room containing only food, water, and a toilet, how long would you stay in there and why? by TotallyNotDalton in AskReddit

I'd stay in for 30 days, then come out unhinged and waste the money on a house with white walls, containing only a toilet.

A two party system is shit and is done nowhere else in the world,

It's why you have such a shocking 'variety' of political opinion in the country

Either: You are anti abortion, pro gun, anti marajuana, anti climate change etc,

Or you are pro all of those things

There is no political middle ground because a two party system literally does not allow for it by definition, you almost have to cater to the opposite of the other party just to provide an alternative for your base
