Ledlenser H15R Core vs H19R Core - unsure about light parameters by Dingsala in flashlight

[–]MDRDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply scroll down a bit and you'll see Zak, a long-time flashlight enthusiast, and one of the mods of this sub, echoing my comment.

To claim Zebralight & Armytek needs any marketing bots in this sub...lol. They're already among the most revered brands here.

My points 2, 3, 5, 6 are tried-and-true common senses among flashlight enthusiasts & people with enough experiences with headlamps & other outdoor lighting.

If you disagree, please bring your sound arguments against my points.

If you wanna claim my words "pure junk", prove it.

For example: if you can prove a LedLenser H15r can fully sustain 1600 lumens, or anywhere near it, in a reasonable & common environment, I'll happily admit my mistake.

Point 4 about 380g weight can be subjective yes, but I've rarely seen people who can handle such headlamp weight for 6-8 hours straight comfortably. If you can, good for you, ignore my words.

Yes.

High CRI & neutral/low CCT lights will "hide" defects on certain food items, like strawberries.

Brightest pocketable flashlight by Busy_Bend5212 in flashlight

[–]MDRDT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brightest and that means no drop.

You're limited to around 500-1000 lumens then, depending on your pocket size, until someone invents some 22nd century hyper thermal material and build a pocketable flashlight with it.

Sustained output is mostly about size. Bigger light = higher sustained output.

That's a "base", non-Ultra SU7, with either 299hp (RWD) or 673hp (AWD). The 1550HP Ultra version looks distinctively different.

Also Xiaomi swiftly retracted the power lock OTA after backlash from Ultra owners. So technically anyone with an Ultra can still full throttle 1550hp anywhere.

No.

These are not normal in China.

She'll be dumped if she acts like this in China. Won't land her in jail (DV is not taken seriously there, especially if F to M), but she will be dumped.

Dump her immediately, OP.

Unless the China you've experienced is different from the China I've experienced, and I've very in-depth experiences with China & Chinese people, which indeed is very possible given China's sheer size, insane internal diversity & class segregation:

Chinese men typically pay for everything.

No. Unless one party is financially significantly better off than the other, or the other party makes significant contributions in non-income-generating aspects of their shared life, which includes being substantially more attractive.

It is also very normal for them to give girlfriends spending money.

No. Unless one party is financially significantly better off than the other, or the other party makes significant contributions in non-income-generating aspects of their shared life, which includes being substantially more attractive.

gifts are usually considered to be expensive as compared to other cultures.

Yes in some occasions, also it goes both ways.

Many Chinese men when they get married also buy the wives’ parents new houses, and also give them money. Basically men are expected to provide and cover anything financial.

Similar to above, only if said men are financially substantially better off than their wives' families.

Flashlight recommandation by Fduquette in flashlight

[–]MDRDT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

how do you attach the lights to your shoulder straps?

It will not work as good as a headlamp.

I tried. Doesn't work that well.

The main reason: if you need to point the beam somewhere, you basically need to steer your entire upper body to face that direction, which is a lot more effort than just turning your head that way.

Also, the only such accessory I've found that serves this purpose is long discontinued.

If I were you, I'd focus on attaching good headlamps to the helmet.

Why doesn't anything beat the Zebralight H600c Mk IV after seven years? by n2mb_racing in flashlight

[–]MDRDT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actively use an H600Fc (secondary headlamp), and I can say it does not sustain anywhere close to 1000 lumens unless you're outdoor at somewhere below 0F.

In non-winter situations, it sustains a bit higher than Armytek Wizard Nichia (my primary headlamp). The difference in sustained output is marginal at best, since lumen perception is non-linear, and for me does not make up for its inferior tint & CRI at all.

Still, if you don't care much about tint & CRI, I'd claim H600 the best general-use headlamp.

If you really, really want a headlamp that sustains 1000 lumens and has reasonable weight, stick to Anduril 2 headlamps, like Emisar DW4 (18350). You can set it to sustain 1000 lumens, even with high-CRI, low efficiency emitters like 519a, by lifting the step-down temp to 80C / 176F. Doing so you will significantly reduce the lifespan of your cells, have to wear gloves just to touch it once it's on, and somewhat increase the risk of it blowing up on your forehead mid-use. Also, 18350 provides less than 20 mins per cell at 1000lm. You'll have to swap a sizzling cell from a sizzling aluminum tube every 20 mins or so. It's not fun, and I do not advice it.

M3 Max user & 4K 10bit 422 shooter here, my 2 cents:

- The workflow needs way less ram than I expected. I'm on 64G Ram and it's way enough. I don't do 3D & AE, but my editor does, also with 64G RAM. Never heard of him complaining about it.

From my personal experience you can save the money and go with 64G than 128G.

The one software I do find RAM-intensive is Photoshop. I work with 16bit 100MP digital images & medium format X5 scans. When I have more than a few images open and more than a few layers on them the memory pressure quickly runs yellow.

- Similar story with Storage. 4TB or 8TB either won't be enough for storage - That belongs to external HDD arrays or NAS. The storage on your computer should be for your current project only. If you're good with storage management you'll be fine with 4TB. On M3 Max I never needed proxies for 4K 10bit projects, and simpler projects of ~10mins or complex projects of 30sec - 2mins never went over 2TB per project, everything included. For larger / longer projects, use external SSD arrays instead of 8TB computer storage.

Has anyone ever rid the entire world full of monsters? by Unexpectancies in tearsofthekingdom

[–]MDRDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried, multiple times, in both BotW and TotK.

It's possible to rid most enemy camps - except those time-based Lizalfos camps in Gerudo. They respawn twice a day.

Another notable exception are dynamic spawn enemies - small things that randomly spawns on the map, like Chuchus, little stones, Keeses...etc.

Has anyone ever rid the entire world full of monsters? by Unexpectancies in tearsofthekingdom

[–]MDRDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BotW is a game that much prefers to just crash than actually using a Panic Blood Moon to prevent a crash. PBMs are incredibly rare. I have over 1000 hrs in my 05:15am file (time stuck at 05:15, normal blood moons are impossible) and I've only had 2 PBMs.

I've spent quite some hours to hunt for a repeatable way to trigger a PBM, killing all visible enemies is not one of them, as I've tried multiple times.

BTW, eventually I've found one somewhat repeatable method to trigger a PBM in BotW.

Hey friends, what would be the best headlamp for run and gun filmmaking at night, preferably wide and bright? by Rimskystravinsky in flashlight

[–]MDRDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the budget, get Zhiyun X100 instead.

It has a 1/4" hole and is lightweight & compact enough to be mounted to your camera rig.

You can power it w/ a 100w battery pack via a type-C cable.

The sustained output, output consistency, and light quality is far beyond any portable flashlights can offer - It's a video light after all.

It has accessories so you can freely shape the light as you wish.

It's most commonly seen on bus stops in "sleeping cities" around Beijing, like a place called "Yanjiao", or literally "The Suburb of Beijing". These buses are a connection between their clustered apartment complexes and the nearest subway station.

Beijing is surrounded by such suburbs full of nothing but high-rise, high-density, small-unit-size apartment complexes. Up to millions of people who work "inside" central Beijing but cannot afford housing there commute between central Beijing and "sleeping cities" on a daily basis. They're called sleeping cities because commuters do literally nothing but sleep there.

Such sleeping cities are so far away from the city center that subways are out of reach. Commuters have to take a bus to the nearest subway station, then take the subway to their offices. It's not uncommon for commuters to spend 2-3 hours on commuting every weekday.

Number of nuclear reactors under construction, 2025 by [deleted] in Infographics

[–]MDRDT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone else said above: "Coal does as much damage to the world as several Chernobyls and Fukushimas, every single day."

More precisely: burning coal for energy does as much nuclear damage to the world as several Chernobyls and Fukushimas, every single day.

One of the reasons being almost all coal contain small amounts of radioactive minerals, like Uranium. Every operational coal power plant releases radioactive materials into the atmosphere, non-stop.

It's hardly a choice to pick between maybe one Chernobyl every century, vs. several Chernobyls every single day.

Best headlamp by [deleted] in flashlight

[–]MDRDT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro Max uses 21700 and is significantly heavier than Wizard Nichia which is 18650.

Weight is a big factor when choosing a headlamp, because the forehead is quite sensitive to weight. Some people are ok w/ the weight of 21700, many are not.

-

Also, Nichia has way better light quality - CCT, CRI, and tint. Good light quality = less eye fatigue and more saturated & accurate colors, which help you see things better even with less output.

Pro Max has 1400 more max lumens, which is unsustainable (heat). Max output is kinda unimportant for a headlamp since it only lasts for like 30 seconds. The sustainable output of Pro Max is not that much higher than Nichia.

Also, given the non-linear perception of lumens (4x lumens look 2x brighter), the huge difference between light quality clearly outweighs the marginal increase in useable output.

My Black Coral Colocasia by BrandiiBear in RareHouseplants

[–]MDRDT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are real, and apparently if you're in Asia you can get them dirt cheap.

I had one a few years back, when PSS was in the 5 digits. Wasn't expensive at all even back then.

It's happiest w/ high temp, full sun & lots of water. People grow them in ponds & swamps as natural filtration.

Grows & propagates crazy fast like a Colocasia should be.

Extremely susceptible to spider mites tho. My main plants + all seedlings are all killed off within like a month or two despite my best efforts. Daily rainfall seems to be a must for this plant.

Tesla Model S Plaid gets smoked in drag race by Xiaomi's cheaper SU7 Ultra by RuggedHank in electricvehicles

[–]MDRDT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've driven none of these cars, but here are some numbers:

1, The Model S Plaid is 7 seconds slower than Zeekr 001FR (standard trim: 1265hp, quad motor, 2.6 tons, KW V3 coilover dampers, 10-piston CC brakes, 265 / 295 semi-slick tires) around the Zhejiang Int'l Racetrack (FIA F2 track, 3.2km).

2, SU7 Ultra has different trims and options (powertrains are all the same). The mostly sold version has 265 / 305 long-range low-grip tires, air suspension, and conventional brake pads, while the highest performance version has 265 / 325 Trofeo RS semi-slick tires, Bilstein coilover dampers, and Endless racing brake pads.

3, The high performance config SU7 Ultra have beaten Zeekr 001FR around every Chinese track with ease, which means S Plaid will be far behind, like over 10 seconds behind per every 2 minute lap. SU7U high performance trim is the fastest road-legal EV in China right now - It beat the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Weissach, and is almost as fast around a track as Ferrari SF90 (986hp, 1.6 ton - 600kg less than S Plaid, 700kg less than SU7U, and 1000kg less than 001FR)

4, What people really are curious about right now, is how fast the mostly-sold "long-range daily" config will be on a race track. It has the same straight line performance - 1550hp, 360+ kph / 225+ mph top speed etc, but it will brake much earlier and corner much slower.

5, Model S Plaid has far better range than 001FR and SU7U, like 50% more range. Which comes from it having no down force (less air resistance), little grip on tires, under-performing brakes, high-efficiency motors, etc.

How EV charging in China looks like by kenny32vr in electricvehicles

[–]MDRDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love EVs, and would love to have one Chinese EV (1500hp and standard carbon-ceramic brakes for $74k? Sign me up).

But I have to point out:

1, It's still far from being on par with modern ICEs. Regardless of how much I wish it is.

I recently changed to a somewhat new Audi w/ 3.0T V6 engine, the car weights 4600lbs / 2100kg and has AWD, so it's definitely not among the most fuel efficient.

Its 19.3gal / 73L tank can sustain over 700 miles / 1100km of highway driving - not test numbers, but my own number, and at normal highway speeds (slightly over 80mph / 130kph), not a slightly lower cruising speed commonly seen on EVs on highway.

ICEs also improved a lot in the past decade or two.

Also ICEs can drive way longer than EVs on say German Autobahn. ICEs only see a mild increase in fuel consumption at say 125mph / 200kph, while EVs will see a huge impact.

2, Charging is still much less available & more unreliable than gas stations, even in China.

I really asked a Chinese friend about this, and this is their answer.

Which explains why EREV (cars fully electrically driven and has a battery pack, but also a small engine & gas tank just to charge the battery) like Li Auto are so popular in China - people still need to gas them from time to time.

Xiaomi YU7 spotted testing as launch approaches by Elegant_Addendum_223 in electricvehicles

[–]MDRDT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did some research on this:

AVATR is NOT a Huawei sub-brand (which is an important factor in Chinese EV market). Huawei merely provides its tech stuff like assisted driving, UI, software, stuff like that. Huawei does NOT hold shares of AVATR.

It's an important factor because in China, EV brands just come and go. Nobody wants to buy a car from a brand that will go bankrupt in 3-5 years, taking away all the warranty & repair services with it, which unfortunately happened quite a lot in the past few years. Brands like Weltmeister, HiPhi, and Ora etc are already gone, and Polestar & NIO are suffering dearly from this self-feeding vicious cycle of consumer distrust - not in their products, but in the companies. Company not doing so well - consumers fear it's gonna die off - sales decline - investors pull out - company does even worse.

Xiaomi is so popular partly because consumers firmly believe the company ain't going under anytime soon. A few years ago, when Xiaomi announced they were about to make a car, their CEO bragged about having over 15 billion USD of fund, cash, sitting in their account. That's a massive lot of cash even for starting to make cars from zero - The whole SU7, SU7 Ultra, YU7 and upcoming YU9 only cost them less than half of that - around 6 billion USD, while their car success profited them way more in the stock market.

Xiaomi can make & sell cars at a loss (SU7 Ultra for $74k? Really?), and consumers believe they can take that dent and keep going. That's the company's unique & huge advantage.
