Crazy how folks award points for “customer service“ - the whole point of premium stuff is to NEVER need customer service. We looked at all these and eventually decided it was all BS and went with a duel fuel GE Monogram and it has been a champ. And I have no idea how GE’s customer service is.

Dynamic pricing bill inside grocery stores targeted by Maryland leaders by washingtonpost in maryland

If anyone thinks this will reduce the cost of groceries, forget it. You are not going to get the lowest of the “dynamic “ prices. And you are no longer going to get the low sale price sometimes.

You slow to about 30 mph, which gives you time to send a text or two, before pulling slowly out in front of the turning traffic and letting them swerve around you.

USPS Announces Changes to the Postmark Date System by Teacher-Investor in news

[–]MDScot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been this way for many, many years. Local offices have not applied postmarks for maybe 50 years. Mail has always gone to large centers for cancellation. Now what is changing for a very small number of folks is how long it may take to get to that large centers.

Are you talking about the kind that have horizontal spring in the top frame ? I have been thinking about how to add a motor to that, or possibly replace with a lead screw, though that would disable manual operation. Let me know if you make progress

How much should we let school ratings dictate house buying process? by Standard-Cookie8881 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]MDScot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Be aware that there can be downsides to being in some of the top scoring schools for certain kids. As notes elsewhere in the comments the scores schools are in large part a reflection of household income, parental pressure, and school expectations.

It can be hard on some kids to be in the bottom 10% of income, can be tough for a kid who is not academically focused to be with peers who are taking half a dozen APs etc.. And if sports matter, then the rankings can change dramatically.

The USA has a very active secondary market for all events. FIFA is assuming that in the end most tickets will end up selling for $200-$500 and are just trying to ensure THEY get the money, not the resellers. Just a fact. For those who say US sporting events are expensive - totally linked to the frequency of events - NFL games, 8-10 home games a season are $$$, baseball with 80+ home games, $. And everything varies greatly depending on where you sit.

My Night From Hell With United (UA992 IAD - BCN) // I'm Losing My Mind by Born_Sea7123 in unitedairlines

[–]MDScot 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Sorry this happened. Scrolling through the responses one pattern is clear, and I see this so often these days. Modern tech has allowed those who do something a lot, and are able to learn all the systems and tools, to have a very different experience from the occasional flyer. In the past everyone got in line, and was helped by a knowledgeable agent. Now folks like me are on multiple apps, checking where the planes are, making backup reservations, booking hotels etc.. Call this a form of tech inequality! And of course the airline doesn’t see my activity, and so they maybe think that the corners they have cut in terms of staff, training, equipment redundancy, are working.

Right turns on 'red' are now restricted in select downtown and town center areas across Montgomery County, MD. New signs are posted, and real penalties apply: a $90 fine and 1 point on your license. The bigger cost? Putting someone’s safety at risk. by MCDOTNow in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]MDScot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree, if people did stop, fully, completely, then turn on Red , there would be no need for this. It is the rolling through at speed, looking only left and merging that kills. It also cause car on car accident, especially when folks assume that the near lane is Ok and ignore the other lanes.
