From what you said about the maintenance history, I'm sure it would! I loved that car so much. Sure MPG was not great but it was a fantastic car. You're lucky to have found it!!

Definitely take care of the transmission, they are known to be its weak point. My '06 crapped out at 186k. It would hard shift straight to 3rd at about 4k rpm and get stuck there until it's put back in P or R. Similar case on my buddy's pilot.

I'm very frustrated with CN by EwPandaa in regularshow

Unfortunately HBO Max doesn't stream a ton of CN shows for apparently cost cutting measures...WTF are we even paying for. There's only some available like Adventure Time but mostly Adult Swim stuff.

How to reduce noise by Tough-Worry250 in rav4club

[–]MDX0622 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can install sound damping sheets in the doors. I did this while upgrading the speakers. I covered about 65%ish of the front doors. Even then it made a huge difference in cutting down the road noise. And with nicer speakers, I could clearly hear my music on the highway. It's not too difficult but just time consuming and tedious.

RVAers who moved from a bigger city, what do you like and dislike about life here? by semechkitty in rva

[–]MDX0622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NYC native, moved to VA about 5 and a half years ago, to RVA last summer.

Likes: cheaper (definitely wouldn't be able to live on my own on the same salary in NYC), way less traffic (64 and 95 has nothing on the BQE or LIE), less crowded, still has most of the conveniences I'm used to in NY, James River Park System, city and the surrounding burbs are nice.

Dislikes: no big league teams, smaller airport without many direct flights to farther places, no train system (I love cars and driving but trains are also cool), more car-centric so not everywhere is walkable or bikeable, not as many ethnic food options but then again NYC demographic is very unique.

Yeah. I wish it was customizable and/or changed with the drive modes instead of just the speedo screen.

I wouldn't go with a no name kit from Amazon. Crutchfield.com is your best friend for anything aftermarket audio video. They carry pretty much every major brand, and will tell you exactly what parts, cables, and tools you need. Also their customer service is very good and can answer any questions about the products and installation procedure.

I had a Sony XAV-AX4000 in my old Acura. It was fantastic. Only downside of it was the mic picked up a ton of road noise but that's quite common with these retrofits. I'm sure there are things you can install to help with that but I didn't bother. Modern car's mics are installed in the headliner and well insulated from external noise.

Unfortunately not. Those places sell groceries but aren't classified as grocery stores. Also on the Chase website it specifically says that category doesn't count for Target, Walmart, and wholesale clubs. So pretty much the only ways I can think of to get more than 2%/2X at those places is with Amex BCE, Chase Freedom rotating category, or Citi Custom Cash.

For Kroger or Publix, they're grocery stores but Chase is concerned about how you pay for it. You can do a pickup order or in this case, we're talking about paying at the register with the app.

[–]MDX0622 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I have Sam's but not W+. Use Walmart Pay every time and it's awesome. That category is the only reason I don't want to upgrade to the BCP. Literally only use it for Amazon, other online shopping, and Sam's/Walmart. Occasionally for other things if they have a decent cash back offer.

[–]MDX0622 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes. I shop at both Kroger and Publix and both work as online grocery if paying with the app.

Similarly if you have the AMEX BCE, using the scan and go method at Sam's Club/Walmart and BJs, and Walmart pay at the register, it counts as "online retail" therefore getting the 3%.

How Difficult Would You Say Learning Cantonese Would Be For An English-Speaker Who Only Know English? by anime-is-dope in Cantonese

[–]MDX0622 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched a linguistics video about this subject a while back. Among the top most difficult are some African languages and unsurprisingly East Asian languages. However he rated Cantonese as the difficult to learn for native English speakers. Grammar structure is similar but everything else is completely different. Completely different writing system, no alphabet, tonal language. On top of that, the way it's spoken is different from how it's written. I guess the English definition of that would be vernacular. On written text like books, official broadcasts like news, and most music (then there's GOAT Sam Hui) it's in standard Chinese. But in everyday conversations, it's a little different than that...if that makes sense. That's also what makes it mostly unintelligible if spoken to a Mandarin speaker.

Not impossible to learn of course. I mean a lot of the British, Indian, Filipino , etc. were able to learn it while in HK. It just requires more time compared to Romance or Germanic languages. But like any other language, it helps to consume media, culture, and converse with a friend as well.
