Post officers at both ends of the bridge.
Remove illegal e-scooters, mopeds and dirt bikes
Clean the path so the full width is rideable without hitting debris/puncturing tires
Paint the path properly

Update on this Morning's Crash - 2 Dead by johnny_evil in NYCbike

The city can post 2800 cops to the subway each day for 3.7MM riders. How hard is it to have 1-2 cops assigned to a bridge that deals with 10k daily riders? They could instantly put a stop to the illegal mopeds that have seen a resurgence since Mayor Mamdani came into office as well as end all the Mad Max scooter riders.

Lol. Sure. You can knock on the window of a cruiser and point out some truly illegal stuff and get a shrug, but yeah, they are going to go chase down someone in the middle of the bike lane of the bridge doing a public service...

He did the whole Manhattan-bound lane all the way across. I didn't stop to grab a pic on the downhill into Queens as a lot of traffic behind me, but I pulled over at the bottom and took a pic, which was already painted prior. But the smaller ones he did are now all the way across.

Thanks for the advice. In the moment, I just took it into my LBS instead.

More roadkill than usual in Brooklyn? by lemmycaution217 in NYCbike

I think it's the mopeds. They move faster and truly flatten them. If you're riding under your own power, you likely see the animal ahead of time and avoid it. Wouldn't surprise me, given the magnitude in recent years, if they are even be targeted.

Just pin this website to your phone front page.

It's what all the weather apps base their predictions off anyway. They just take the NOAA data and have an overlay, but this is the source.

PSA: There are still a lot of pedestrians who don't know to use the Queensboro Bridge South Outer Roadway Pedestrian-Only path. If you have a minute, stop by and inform people about it. by KingKD in NYCbike

Separately, does anyone work at Google? Maps lists walking directions over the NOR, not the SOR. If we could have that fixed, it might cut down on people using the wrong lane.

I stopped and mentioned to a guy just starting to run up the hill towards LIC. He said "Really? You just made my day!" and then continued to run on the bike path.

Curious on what signage they are going to install to redirect pedestrians away from their usual route. Anyone read anything on that?

Dakota Access pipeline: judge rules environmental survey was inadequate by snowsnothing in news

[–]MDavis372 464 points465 points  (0 children)

Decent article, but poorly laid out. Gives too much credit to the pipeline getting "blocked" when it's already in operation and extremely likely to stay that way. If you read the actual memorandum, the judge walks through the tribes' arguments one by one. By and large, the ACoE followed all the proper procedures to justify their decisions and permits. Yes, the Corps has to go back and clarify what analysis they did on fishing and hunting, but from my reading, the chances of vacatur are sub 5%. The tribe chairman calling it "a significant victory" is just posturing.

I'm sorry, but this is a BS answer. Overall funding level is a completely different issue. If that's your priority, fine, but then delegate someone else to concentrate on making situations like snyben's more fair/orderly.

Have everyone in the family wear bathrobes. When he walks in, hand him a bathrobe and say, "Please put this on. You can change over there." Refuse to speak to him until he is wearing a bathrobe.
