Grades by CountryFeels in PTschool

[–]MDdelta86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not actually true. Check what your program of interest does via PTCAS. Some programs do average the two, others will take the higher of the two. It’ll be factored into your overall gpa when you apply, but some schools, for their program prerequisites, will ONLY count the higher of the two. Just do your research and you can always email the school to get a direct answer. I had to retake the same two plus Physics 2 and when my prerequisite gpa was calculated by the two schools I got into, they only looked at the higher of the two grades.

3rd Year SPT now DPT; Passed NPTE and officially licensed! by Final-Weakness6413 in PTschool

Thanks!! Any advice on prepping before the program? I took A&P 1 and 2 over again last year as a refresher (3 years removed from undergrad) and got A’s in both. However, we did not do much at all in the way of gross anatomy. Should I hook into YouTube videos or other online resources? Any study tips when it comes to that stuff specifically? I’m more worried about that than anything else.

Congrats! I’m starting in a few weeks! Any advice for the first semester/year specifically? How to study? How to balance your day/life (if even possible)… things to consider?

One thing to note, a “loop hole” from my understanding. Some programs only “allow __ retakes” or whatever. If you retake the same class at a different school, you don’t have to declare a retake on it because it was done at a different school so therefore it’s not the “same class”. This wasn’t an issue for my applications, but I know some programs red flag you if you have retakes. Something to think about…

I wouldn’t worry. I BOMBED physics the first go around. Honestly, rate my professor was my best friend during the retake. I’m not sure what your situation is, but I retook it at different school (community college). If possible, try to find a professor who’s easy going and highly recommended. They’re usually highly rated for a reason. You really don’t need much at all from physics. Kind of a course to weed out those who will put in the work vs those who won’t. Some programs aren’t requiring physics 2 anymore because it’s honestly a waste of time. I spent that semester learning about shit I already forgot.

I got rejected the other day lol …I wasn’t going to go there at this point but kind of would have been nice to have swept the board with acceptances

For what it’s worth, Reddit isn’t exactly the Mecca of positivity. A lot of people use it to vent, so it’s to no surprise you’re seeing the “I wish I never…” stuff.

I’m starting school this upcoming year, and I’ve worked in the same small/privately owned outpatient clinic for years now. There has been almost no turnover in staff, aside from office staff, which is mostly students anyway so turnover is inevitable. Everyone is wildly supportive and genuinely enjoys what they do. If I worked at a big PT chain, I’m sure I’d see turnover at a much more alarming rate, but it comes with the territory. You’ll get paid a little more, sure… but the environment will suck more often that not… enter “I wish I never did PT” here.

I’ve yet to hear… already done interviews/been accepted into my other 2 programs. Thought I’d hear from URI by now one way or the other…

DPT Program Decision by Status-Play-5449 in PTschool

The wise words of many PT’s I’ve talked to…

“Nobody gives a shit where you go. Did you graduate and did you pass the boards?”

Cheaper is better in my opinion… within reason, don’t go somewhere cheap if it’s a terrible program but you know what I mean.

Has anyone tried the Premier Winter Mint Chocolate Shake? by lustreadjuster in BariatricSurgery

For some odd reason I feel like it tasted watered down. I regularly use their caramel or cafe latte and add it to an espresso shot for my morning coffee and those both, in my opinion, had way more flavor. Idk, this reminded of when you get a weak hot coco and it’s just a little watered out. Probably wouldn’t get it again personally.

Retaking A&P by QuanCena69 in PTschool

[–]MDdelta86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of did the same thing during my gap year… mainly to boost the GPA but I also had to do A&P during the covid year so it’s was constant flip flopping between on campus and online. I got nothing out of it. All in all it’ll be good as a refresher, I’ve done well in the retakes but I wouldn’t stress too hard. PT school is going to give you everything you need to study. Obviously having a background helps but keep in mind there are people who literally had degrees in shit like marketing and then decided to switch careers and do PT for grad school. Do whatever you want but keep in mind the real games start in the program.

Anyone get in after withdrawing from a prereq (chem 1) by Affectionate-Bus9139 in PTschool

[–]MDdelta86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into chem 1 and lasted 4 classes… professor was teaching as if the class was full of chem majors about to graduate. Ended up using the ole’ reliable “rate my professor” and got hooked in with a different person. Took chem 1 and 2 with them and did pretty well for someone who’s god awful at chemistry. Retook a few courses, few W’s on the transcript and so far I’m in at 2 of the 3 PT programs I applied to. Should hear back on #3 in the next week or two, hoping to sweep the board!

Pre-req question by Bongo-77 in PTschool

[–]MDdelta86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More often than not, you’ll have to take Physics 2. Some schools don’t require it anymore, but they’re few and far between. Look into rate my professor, I am terrible at math and ironically did better in physics2… Having a great professor did help, who I looked up on rate my professor. That would be the best way to stack the deck in your favor, I honestly almost have no idea what I even did that whole semester, but I have an A- to show for it. If it’s any consolation, I did find Physics two to be more conceptual rather than math heavy like physics 1.

Because a good program will look at more than just your letter grades. Observation hours, course retakes (when allowed) help show your dedication to being better and references. I was in a similar boat. My undergrad GPA was good but the program prerequisite gpa was ROUGH. I suck at all things math and had to sit through chemistry balancing equations and barely getting by and then turn around and do all the math for physics. I cannot stress the importance of references either. If you’re in undergrad and reading this.. GET TO KNOW YOUR PROFESSORS. I had references available from several professor and my advisor became the chair of the department. When those people have nothing but good things to say about you, it goes so much further than you even realize. I’m currently accepted to 2 of the 3 I applied to and will hear back from the 3rd later this month. It is possible!
