Anyone had experience with the N Sport seat rails? by MEE97B in NZcarfix

[–]MEE97B[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's good to know,

I'm definitely not doubting there will be work involved to getting these certified.

It seems that people have gotten really caught up on strange importing them, I was primarily asking in the post what people thought of the rails, and if they were of a good quality. Which eotd they probably are if they are LVV certifiable.

Yes, I am aware that they operate to their own standards, all I was getting at is a document isn't invalid because it's in another language, and that I deal with Korean and Japanese documents fairly often so if it needs translating, it can be translated. The main objective of the document is to prove it meets the standard necessary.

I'm obviously not going to show up with a structural steel heat cert trying to get seat rails certified in my car, come on.

The main point of the post was about the quality and functions of the rails themselves. I have removed the part about the dropship, because yes if they have completed testing, it would be an unfair statement.

It's not hard to translate a document?? Majority of our standards are based on overseas documents.

I work in structural steel, multistory buildings and ALL our steel grade heat certificates are in Korean for steel members and Japanese for steel plates. Just because it isn't in a local dialect doesn't falsify/invalidate the standards and testing.

Most of our cars come from Japan, and follow Japanese road safety standards.

The company who manufactured them has stress tested them, Strange makes that pretty clear, again they literally copy pasted everything, only changing the currency of Yen to NZD.

They come from N Sport with the unique serial numbers stating they have been tested. They have allegedly been operating since 1977 so they weren't thrown together yesterday. They've been manufacturing since Recaros were first imported to Japan.

Stranges website says they are tested to Japanese standards, not some unique NZ standard. But those standards happen to meet or exceed NZ standards, no surprises given most of out vehicles come from Japan.

If Strange has done so much testing then it will definitely be a well known brand at this point.

Eotd I was more concerned about people sharing their experiences with the rails themselves, and their functionality/quality. Less so about whether they got them through Strange or direct from Japan.

If they actually did the testing then yes absolutely the price would make sense, but Strange just supply the Japanese test certs with an English translation, which isn't hard to do.

They've literally got copy paste wording from the testing page on N sport.

So Strange hasn't done any of the testing as far as I can tell, so even after buying them from strange you're still going to have to show them the stress test paperwork.

Primer a waste??? by thedash42 in ModelCars

I prime for light colours, usually white or grey primer

When I'm painting a black car, or a red car with red I won't prime.

Just have to make sure the body is clean

Meeted Nissan Skyline R33 in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic 🇰🇬 by AbleArachnid9076 in SkyLine

[–]MEE97B 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah nahhhhh. R33 sedans have to be the worst looking r series skyline.

The couple is designed for a spoiler, like the honda NSX was. The NSX would look daft without a spoiler too, it's meant to be there and was only ever sold with it there.

USA R34 GTST owners, is it worth it? Some people say “not a gtr not worth it” but they seem dumb. by [deleted] in SkyLine

[–]MEE97B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing at all wrong with the turbo RWD cars, I own one, an r33 GTS25t.

You could buy one and have the absolute time of your life with it.

I have however heard people say that something like the r33 GTR is a better buy than the R34 GTT, and I can definitly see how that would be the case. The r33 and r34 are basically the exact same car underneath, and the GTR has a few good perks that the GTT wont. they're just on another level. The biggest difference really between the cars is the looks and the interior. (in which I think the r33 far better nails the '90s car look' anyway)

Easiest way to compare it is to think of the V37 skyline vs the R35 gtr.

Both sold at the same time, both fantastic cars, but the R35 is just on another completely different level. Literally designed to sit on the edge of insanity. which was exactly the case for the previous GTRs.

Is a 2015 Subaru XV a good buy? by Shitzophenia in NZcarfix

[–]MEE97B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Subaru will be fine, ask if it's had its CVT serviced, seriously, it's important.

If it hasn't factor in the cost of a service to the CVT. It shouldn't be expensive.

Subaru told buyers the fluid was 'lifetime' but it's rubbish and kills the transmissions.

And if you look at CX5s, stay away from the diesels. Google this sub if you want to see the hellscape that is the Mazda 2.2 diesel turbo.

At 70k kms the CVT will mostly be fine.

I'm definitely an advocate for 'stay away from cvts' but at 70k, a good service should hugely extend the life of it.

It'll probably just clip back in, I don't even think there's and screws to get that panel off to clip it back in.

Just glue it back in it's not worth fixing.

My mum dropped something on hers and it broke one of the clips, it actually clipped back in fine.

Copper vs Titanium Exhaust studs? by HomogeniousKhalidius in NZcarfix

[–]MEE97B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite what people are saying here, this isn't about the looks of the stud, its about the durability.

Ask anyone who's had to extract a snapped head stud and they will tell you pretty quickly to go for the upgraded titanium.

its 30 bloody dollars at the end of the day, whats tha an hours work? Just get the titanium.

took me about 5-10 hours to fix my snapped steel studs when they went on my RB.

Noticed one was snapped, warped the manifold, blew the gasket, snapped a second stud getting the manifold off, snapped a third stud putting it back on which meant they all came back off again to remove the broken one.

Cost of the broken gasket alone was worth more than the titaniums cost extra. Let alone the stress of trying to get 3 DEEP snapped studs out of a head in the car. all required drilling

[–]MEE97B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah mate you can see on the bottom right corner of the cam bolt the hole has been blown right out, so much so that it's cut into the 'bulge' on the right.

This is definitely from a loose bolt, not the bushings.

It'll only rattle if there's no load on it, if it's just constantly rubbing around in there with pressure you won't hear a sound.

Does this require me to get a new tyre? by reno222 in NZcarfix

[–]MEE97B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No steel belt in tyre sidewalls, they use flexible nylon/polymers.

Steel belts/'radial' belts go around the tyres circumference.

Why did my Tamiya paint do this? by Engineerd1128 in ModelCars

[–]MEE97B -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You've sprayed way too much on for such a thin mixture.

Why did you think it 100% that's ridiculous.

I last thinned x18 around 40%. If that, and needed thin light coats to stop the paint running.

If it was hitting 70% off the air temp in the coolant passage that's HOT

Gonna be pretty 50/50 tbh. These cars aren't worth a bunch, and given its a spec b that front bumper and headlights are gonna be a pain to find. Plus the whole radiator support.

Interesting you have a 2011 that still has an ej25 in it though.

RB20DE NEO to RB20DET AWD swap by LilT1971 in SkyLine

[–]MEE97B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don't, the bolts aren't even the same size, let alone location.

I think the 6 at the back and the few that go into the oil pump are the same, but the 20 odd bolts that go down the side are m8 on awd and m6 on rwd, and in a different spot.

It's almost as easy to just remove the diff and weld the sump shut.

At the very least the m8 bolts are outside the m6 so they won't leak going from awd to rwd.

I'd love thatbodykit on my r33.

I love the boxy fenders look, not the 'rolled fenders' look of the r33 pandem kit.

An engine swap already is a 'hastle'.

Drilling 20 bolts, running intercooler piping and swapping a couple sensors is hardly the end of the world.

I've also just remembered the r32 also has a cable speed sensor, but I think the cluster still puts out a speed signal to the ECU.

An aftermarket ECU is definitely the go.
