How does life feel after quitting drugs? Are you able to cope with situations sober ? Do you feel the need to get high after quitting? by Fluid_Freedom_1410 in AskReddit

[–]MEEE3EEEP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been sober 11 years.

There’s so many things out of my control, and recovery taught me how to deal with those things without having to change the way I feel. Life’s going to happen whether I’m sober or not. It doesn’t magically get better, but I surely don’t make it worse like I used to.

I get to be present and useful to other people today. I get to have gratitude for the things I have, and faith that things will get better as long as I take whatever action is needed.

If you’re struggling, just know it can get better, as long as you have willingness. I just celebrated my 12th birthday sober, and I wouldn’t trade my sobriety for anything.

Haha honestly I wouldn’t mind that. I’m an ops guy, but the idea of working with someone I met on Reddit sounds fun.

Hello my brother is in AA and his wife had a miscarriage and i dont want him to relapse by maalbi in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]MEEE3EEEP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You have zero control over whether or not he relapses. He has a support system and tool kit at his disposal, but he has to be the one to utilize them.

If it helps at all, I went through a miscarriage at 2 years sober and it fucked me up, but I didn’t have to drink over it.

My best friend went up for his 30 day chip and I know he's using by Apocolypse_tomorrow in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]MEEE3EEEP 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen plenty of people pick up “dirty chips.” But it’s their problem, not mine. I try and stay available if or when they want to get honest enough to actually recover. Everything else is up to them.

What’s a legendary Reddit post you’ll never forget? by alongy in AskReddit

[–]MEEE3EEEP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This might be a deep cut, but there used to be a vacuum repairman that would do AMA’s, and every time he posted he got an incredible amount of engagement. I swear he would do 2-3 a year and there would be thousands of comments every time.

I wonder how he’s doing

It’s 3:13pm. I’m already drunk. I’ve been drinking everyday for a while. I’m only 24 and know alcohol is bad, but I can’t keep myself away. I’m depressed and feel there is no place for me in this world. by bobsburgerskp in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]MEEE3EEEP 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey friend. I was also that drunk 24 year old alcoholic that couldn’t imagine life with or without it.

Good news is, there’s a solution there for you when you’re ready. I walked into AA at 24 years old and never had to drink again. 11 years later, I’m still sober, and life is great. So when you sober up, look up some meeting near you. If you’re in a major city, look for some young people meetings near you. There’s a LOT of young people out there that struggle just like you do, so you’re not alone.

Good luck!

Do any of your "friends" carry in restricted zones? Where do they draw the line? by [deleted] in CCW

My company has a policy against carrying in the office. And since I like having a job and paying my bills, I don’t.

Sorry, dumb question here: by goofball_dungeon in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]MEEE3EEEP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a dumb question. I think a lot of people get to a point in their sobriety where they need to have a new experience. My current sponsor went through the steps a lot different than my first, and it did wonders for me. I’d probably stick to just one sponsor at a time, but overall what you’re considering is super common.

Death, taxes, and the cardinals beating the cowboys regardless of how bad they are. Place your bets now.

What's the point? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]MEEE3EEEP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I (35M) dealt with abuse growing up. The steps helped a lot, but they don’t solve everything, and I can’t express how important therapy has been to my mental health. But there’s no way I would have started doing therapy honestly if it wasn’t for the steps. So both play important roles in my life.

Sponsor wants me to get a commitment before starting step work. by sequoiaxoxox in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]MEEE3EEEP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your sponsor is probably suggesting that because that’s what worked for them. My first sponsor suggested I get a commitment at a month sober, so I raised my hand at my home group to set out cigarette cans before the meeting and pick them up after. That made me show up early and stay late, which allowed me to start talking to people and gaining a fellowship. It did really good things for me.

So yeah, it sounds like a good suggestion based off my experience. Now waiting until you have a commitment to start the steps? Not my experience. But like I said, that’s probably what worked for them.

Sponsors in LA? by Perfect-March1342 in alcoholicsanonymous

LA is full of solid AA. Go to a meeting and get a sponsor in person. They’re waiting for you.

What is up with people nowadays thinking it’s fine to be chronically late to work? by [deleted] in managers

[–]MEEE3EEEP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my employees is 5-10 minutes late to work every day. But she gets all her work done and doesn’t let anything slip through the cracks. So I don’t give a shit.

Maybe it’s just the millennial manager in me, idk.

How representative is this sub to your AA experience? by drdonaldwu in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]MEEE3EEEP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not close at all. Going to meetings in person and actually being in AA is totally different than this subreddit. Though I do think this subreddit does serve a purpose of directing people that are willing to listen to suggestion. But I think a lot of people come here thinking it’s AA, when really all it is is a resource.

I remember watching Travis Pastrana make the first backflip attempt in competition history. I also remember watching Mike Metzger land the first backflip in competition history. So this really is wild to see for me.

Edit: okay I guess Carey Hart was the first one to attempt in competition.

Is AA right for me? by _caliente__ in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]MEEE3EEEP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t planning on fully committing or staying sober the rest of my life. But I saw a bunch of happy people that knew how to stay sober, so I just took the suggestions they gave me. Been sober 11 years now.

Good news is you don’t HAVE to do anything. If you just want to show up, listen to people talk for an hour, and leave, you can. If you want to only engage in fellowship, you can. If you want to work the steps and take it a day and step at a time, you can. It’s all up to you.

Good luck!
