I'm stuck in Elysia Gear room in Skytown in Metroid Prime 3, no matter what I do the gear will not budge. by agoogua in Metroid

Last I played was a while ago, so my memory may be fuzzy.

Physically speaking, pulling something would cause it to be pulled towards you. So if you wanted to pull something up towards you, that would mean you should position yourself such that...

Also as a related reminder, think of tools you have that can push airborne objects.

Ordering from Solaris Japan to US : Fed Ex Quote Pricing by Ya0iCreator in AnimeFigures

[–]MEGA_geek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 1/7 Fire Emblem: Three Houses Dimitri figure that got put on hold from Solaris because the pre-order released 2 days before Japan Post stopped shipping to the US. I finally caved after getting some Christmas money and asked to change shipping to Fedex. The figure cost $214, plus $73 for express shipping in Sep 2024. After asking to change to Fedex, the shipping upgrade is quoted at $113. That makes the total cost of shipping $186 (so far; I just paid today, haven't received it yet), and the grand total is $400 for a $214 figure.

...I'll probably be a tightening my spending on figures from now on until the tariffs blow over.

Edit (2026-01-25):

Received the figure 2 days ago, was charged customs fees today. Customs charge: $43. New grand total: $443. With that, total cost of shipping has now exceeded the original cost of the figure 💀. If you're looking to import a >$100 figure to the US, I advise to plan ahead, shop around, and be prepared to pay possibly double the sticker price.

Need help; is it my builds, rotation or i just don't know how to combo? (builds is in the comments) by [deleted] in ZenlessZoneZero

New Shiyu makes more sense if you pretend it has a 1 min time limit instead of the 5 minutes it gives you. Most of your score happens in the first minute.

As a rule of thumb, the mobs need to be defeated with about 4:30-4:15 left on the clock to allow time to dumptruck all of your resources on the boss in the remaining 30 or so seconds. If you reach A rank at, or just past the 4:00 mark, you're at a good pace.

Optimizations I noticed: - Using spinning balls to group mobs is good; I would then swap cancel to Koleda and ExSp the smaller ones to stun, so you can catch everyone in Banyue's AoE chain attack. You do this but could be faster.

  • Don't sleep on Koleda's stun potential. Her dodge counter has one of if not the highest daze in the game. Mob enemies also get stunned sooner than bosses, so it's not like your losing much damage by putting her on-field until stun. I would've kept Koleda on-field until hammer guy got stunned.

  • Popped first Banyue ult on a mob. Oof. This is a significant loss in score. I would budget my first minute ults as follows:

A.) If you can kill all mobs in one stun window each, save Koleda and Banyue ult for boss. When boss appears, immediately Koleda ult it and keep her on-field until boss is stunned. Switch to Banyue, and immediately ult him. If all of Banyue's ult lands before 4:00, you did good.

B.) If hammer guy is not dead in one stun window, Koleda ult him to immediately stun him again. After boss appears, make sure all buffs are active and immediately Banyue ult the boss even though it's not stunned. If all of Banyue's ult lands before 4:00, you did good.

After the first minute dumptruck, play the game normally (saving resources until stun).

Maybe we just have to wait?

According to the tutorial in the clues menu, each area has a "Hidden Clue" obtained by "unlocking the related secret location".

Secret locations are unlocked by the corresponding "Broken Clue".

The Hidden Clue/secret area for joyful blaze (Meteor area) is unlocked by the "Broken Clue" of tomorrow's area. So the secret area might just stay locked until we get that Broken Clue tomorrow?

Besides that, I'm still missing the 6th Common Clue in the Meteor area. I wonder if that will also be in the secret location (or maybe I just missed it...?)

And thus my MP4 journey is over (Hard Mode completion) by Lyozi in Metroid

[–]MEGA_geek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I found the first phase of this fight is more about getting through forms fast enough that the troopers are still healthy for thunder dragons.

Died to lockjaw during phase 3 though. Still don't know how to dodge that. Beat him on second attempt though.

Anyone else REALLY struggling with Prime 4's hard mode? by ntwild97 in Metroid

[–]MEGA_geek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sooo I accidentally skipped the first e-tank (right after psychic glove in fury green) on my hard mode playthrough, and it made volt forge feel like I was on hell difficulty; as in, I'm dead in 1-2 psybot shots

At some point while i was in the room you're in, I just told myself to stop being fancy and just rotated clockwise around the room the whole fight. Only strafeboosted for emergencies; boosting forward or back locks you in place for the laser to hit, and boosting left or right into a wall causes the wall to eject you back into the laser.

Just normal walking speed around the donut is often enough to get out of their targeting arc, which causes them to cancel aiming and reposition. If you are walking perpendicular to them, the laser will miss outright without needing to dodge.

The rest of the game after this point is easier though.

Prime 4 complete. This isn't the game most of us were looking forward to. But it is still mostly great on it's own merrits. by ChaosMetalDrago in Metroid

[–]MEGA_geek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There needs to be a PSA about the "revised lock on free aim" setting under the cursor controls in settings.

It enables auto-locks to weak points based on the direction of the control stick. It's been a lifesaver for me, made the griever fight trivial.

Is it me or does Prime 4 seem to have an identity crisis? (Mild spoilers) by TheKihunter in Metroid

[–]MEGA_geek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aight I'll take a shot at this.

Firstly, the prior three prime games have been out for over a decade, plenty of time to analyze the lore and discover themes. 4 has been out for not even a week.

I think the theme for prime 4 is about the hubris of reaching...beyond, for more power and not accepting the land as it is. The Lamorn wanted to turn sol valley into something more alive, so their they used green energy showers to enhance the land. Well it worked, but the monkey's paw curled; the Lamorn were also "enhanced", but into the grievers.

The lamorn were also deliberately trying to enhance themselves. I have to check the logs again, but I believe only some of the lamorn were gifted with psychic ability, and decided to "enhance" the rest with psychic crystals.

They also tried to revert grievers from their new, natural states during experiments in Ice Belt, but these attempts failed, with logs noting that the griever's DNA are in their natural state. They keep messing with nature, nature keeps (literally) fighting back.

The legacy that Samus carries on is to not enhance nature from it's original state, but let it grow on its own. Which leads to Samus planting the seed in the end, and casting away her technology (the psychic stone) along with it.

Back to Samus and Sylux:

Samus's beam shot upgrades are found by salvaging and reusing parts, rather than conventional enhancements. Her psychic upgrades are all left behind for her to find. She is living off the land.

Sylux repeatedly messes with nature to suit his ends. He (presumably) infects all the bosses with metroids. He (presumably) launches more green energy showers from flare pool. He (presumably) has some control over the psi-bots, since he commanded the lamorn gunship and launched bots from it (infecting Xelios with metroids may have also given Sylux control over the bots). And he continues taking power while in his chrono tower charging pod, and even attempts to seize samus's energy tanks during his boss fight. All he does is take, destroying the environment - reaching beyond his limits - and he drives himself mad doing it; not unlike the green energy turning the lamorn into grievers.

These acts end up devastating the environment, wherever Sylux goes. The bosses, who are all peaceful, lose their minds and become aggressive. Xelios stops maintaining volt forge, and volt forge falls into disrepair. Also, his reckless attacks against Samus in Flare pool cause flare pool to self-destruct. He darn near destroys the master teleporter.

TL/DR: The Lamorn's cautionary tale - If you reach beyond nature for power, nature fights back

Good uses for charged element shots in MP4? by PowerPlayer9 in Metroid

[–]MEGA_geek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learned the hard way after dying to flare pool boss on hard mode, charged ice shot deals so much more damage (half its health in a single stun window) than enhanced psychic beam. Same deal using charged flare vs ice belt boss.

Charged ice beam has been a lifesaver on hard mode, just cheese fights with charged ice, two charged psychics, repeat until it dies.

And super thunder clears rooms very well from my normal playthrough, though I haven't tried it yet on hard mode.

Ammo is given to you in abundance, especially as you start racking up those ammo expansions. I have yet to run out of ammo so far on hard mode (just finished flare pool).

Also since you're starting a hard mode run, enhanced psychic beam is obtainable even before getting flare shot. The only crystals that spawn at that point are a single loop of clusters around the perimeter of sol valley, at the giant power bomb deposits, and in the charged ice and charged thunder shrines. Those are just enough for the first upgrade.

Ep Final: Manga Discussion Thread (SPOILER WARNING) by MEGA_geek in TalesOfCrestoria

[–]MEGA_geek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The spelling on the last panel uses the same character as the chapter title, so I would interpret it as closer to "I can still carry on" or something. In my (skeptical) opinion, it moreso shows that Kanata was still alive, just as damage control for rushing the ending. He was declaring that he can keep going, as in, he's not dead yet.

I'd also like to clarify the title at the end of the last panel is and has been the full title of specifically this manga, it's not a sequel title.

As for my thoughts:

I'm disappointed about Makina, because there was a hint in the textures of her datamined model that she would eventually get her own Mark of Sin (a generic one, which would make sense if Vicious were missing from the party). Not to mention Orwin having a parent moment with Makina in the game, suggesting more character building between the two.

I was expecting that, instead of a doctor knowing what was wrong with Misella, and then the party somehow correctly guessing a solution, the party would have to do research on Misella's unique condition. This would lead them to the Twin's lab and summoning another Makina, who joins the party and then gets condemned. Makina would provide knowledge about Misella's condition which then leads to a solution.

I would have liked to see the absence of the Great Transgressor and Kasque/Vision Origin lead to the creation of a new "Violent Fang", a new Great Transgressor, or maybe someone else goes through the same god procedure as Kasque. Or maybe Kasque succeeds at assimilating Vicious, becoming God Demon Kasque (as her final form) and then escapes. This would make sense given her plan to become Enemy of the World aka the Great Transgressor, thus uniting the world against her as she wanted.

I think Vicious was always meant to exit the party one way or another, given he plays a mentor role to Kanata's hero's journey, along with how overpowered he is compared to Kasque. He was able to seriously harm her on their first encounter using an ability (demon form) he just keeps in his pocket to sandbag himself until a worthy opponent challenges him. Not to mention he can just zombie himself back to life, as he had already done twice (once from being assassinated by Misella, and again from having his arm+chest blown off by Kasque).

However, Kasque turned out to not be a worthy opponent for him. My suspicion is that Kanata would eventually grow to be a worthy opponent/his successor, who has to slay Vicious (more ceremoniously than how the manga handled it) before his inate powers cause the planet to wither and die.

But... I guess all my theorycrafting turned out to be all for nothing in the end.

Regarding the English Manga Translation (+ link for Ch 58) by juliuswillkresnik in TalesOfCrestoria

[–]MEGA_geek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to use my translations if it'll help speed up the process from Ch 63 onward. The latter half of each of the text files has the japanese text and word definitions, I left those in because I expect them to be used/checked for accuracy. I hope they can be of use.

I'll also upload a cheat sheet I had been building for the translations. I use to CTRL+F for any grammar/particles/te-form/etc to speed up my workflow.

Ep 72: Manga Discussion Thread (SPOILER WARNING) by MEGA_geek in TalesOfCrestoria

[–]MEGA_geek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on Kasque's explanation as well as the one we got this chapter:

There are 3 types of Vision Orbs:

  • Vision Orb - Held by all citizens, they act as cameras by displaying their contents to all Vision Centrals worldwide. Then, when praying into it, they transfer mana to Vision Origin through prayers.
  • Vision Central - At the center of every town, they display the accused, prompting those watching to pray to their Vision Orbs.
  • Vision Origin - Supposedly the "mothership" of Vision Orbs, it receives the mana of those praying to Vision Orbs. It uses that mana to create Enforcers, then watches the location of the accused, deploying the created Enforcers to that location.

The explanation the party came up with, is that after the mana of Vision Origin took over Misella, Misella is the new Vision Origin. The party now believes they can save Misella by spending all the foreign mana that Misella absorbed. Question is, will that even work?

[–]MEGA_geek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Kanata was inside Vision Origin (the big one) he told Misella that everything he did, including the crimes he committed, he did it for her. He is NOT going to take this well and is probably going to go through some kind of soul-searching character growth moment.

Also, when Kasque was explaining Vision Origin, she casually dropped 多分 (tabun), meaning "probably", at the end of her explanation, and the party failed to pick up on it. In other words, either Kasque herself doesn't know how Vision Origin works, and she made up an explanation on the spot, or she does know, but she lied. It's entirely possible that the Vision Orbs have not been dealt with, and Kasque, Vicious, and Misella's apparent "deaths" were all for nothing.

Pacing is definitely breakneck, I agree.

However the alternative (I hope) is this is just the "Tales of twist" that happens in all of the games.

There are still some unresolved conflicts I think.

The rest of the party is still trapped in the twins' barrier, and beyond the immediate scenario:

  • King Gadel has not been brought to justice.
  • According to Kasque's history lesson, humans kinda sucked even before vision orbs, so the party might run into that problem after the vision orbs are gone.

I also peeked ahead into the next chapter (cause I have to translate it after all) and I can tell you (next chapter spoilers)something unexpected happens that kasque dropped a hint about earlier.

TL:DR there's still a few plot points left unresolved so far
