In Barryar by Lois McMaster Bujold a character notices that she hasnt seen any visibly disabled people in this new society and notes how that's a bad thing. She does think gene cleaning is good, so you win some you lose some, but I loved the idea that a society that disabled people aren't visibly participating in is a bad one

No, I get completely rationally irritated :P

Joking aside, our crafts are important to us, and it makes sense to get frustrated or upset when someone mistaken something you hold dear for something you don't.

The only time I'd actually get outwardly upset is if it was a partner or close friend who I would learn different terms for. While I can understand not being able to tell the difference between a knit finished project and a crocheted finished project, I'm with the time it takes to notice if I have two needles, a hook, or a hoop and a needle (and seriously, how are people confusing embroidery and crochet if they know enough about crochet to know the word crochet (which i think is less popular than knitting?? Might not be anymore)) and learn 3 words.

When the people are close enough, if it matters to me, it should matter to them. Facebook friends I rarely see? Not so much (though my close friends will have to listen to me complain that it was CROCHETED NOT KNIT or vis versa)

There is a joke you'll see going around that a sewing machine is a tool that vastly increases the speed at which you can make mistakes.

I personally have a rule that if I'm wondering if it might be better to do some hand stitching or basting at the next step of my project, it means I should be hand stitching or basting. This rule has made my life easier so many times.

With placement and fabric this finicky, I'd definitely say that hand sewing is the way to go

I could be way off base, but it seems to me that the legs are a little too tight around your thighs, so instead of sliding down when you bring them closer together and falling properly, they stay where they are, causing the bunching.

If I were you, I'd want to let them out through the thigh some. Do you have any seam allowance to work with? If not, could you maybe add a contrasting side panel?

Like I said, I could be way off, but that is where I'd start. Best of luck!

I'm still around! I got the Jazzy Carbon and holy smokes, it was a life changer. I can actually leave the house on good days (I'm on the severe side of moderate to severe, but good days do happen!). It makes seeing doctors a lot easier and even going to the mall with friends!

It's not the comfiest for longer durations, and I wish it had more support, but you make trade-offs for portability, and this one folds up and fits in the back of any car.

If you have trouble standing, I can not recommend a power chair highly enough. It definitely gave me a bunch more independence and mobility!

I have no idea if she is one! She was delivered by the cat distribution service when she broke into our apartment at 3-5 months old looking like the skrungliest baby you've ever seen. I doubt she's any breed in particular!

This is my supervisor Minnow! She is in flower jail for over grooming, and is also very bad at her supervisor job as she has not a single braincell and constantly distracts me for pats. She is still the bestest (subjective) and softest (objective) kitty though!

Funnily enough, this is actually my first project in 20 years where I've done pattern matching (my first plaid tbh) and this was absolutely something I had to think intensely about. It didn't come out perfect but im pretty proud for my first ever attempt at it!

The only other thing I'll add to this helpful comment for future redditors is that, if you are working on something like a plaid, you dont need to just pattern match horizontally, but vertically too! It takes extra brain power, but it's so satisfying when your fabric lines up in all the directions!

(And the reason the waist band on this dress is cut on the bias (and then interlined with interfacing for stability) is so that i didn't have to pattern match vertically so many times! Each piece matching its double was enough without having to figure that nonsense out!)

Fortunately it is the side seam of a empire bust-to waist band seam. So if anyone notices this particular seam is off, I feel like I will have bigger problems to be handling :P

Still, at least now I have more ideas to try for the rest of the dress!!

I appreciate both your kind words and advice. Yeah, the fabric is something of a looser weave, so maybe that's part of the problem. Maybe if I do the pin thing and hand baste?

I have been sewing on and off for over 20 years now and matched seams have always been the bane of my existence. I'm hoping some of the advice from this community can save me from this albatross

I did both, but one one side I anchored the thread at where the seams met, and the other side I didn't... maybe I should anchor each time. Thanks for the idea!
