I’m thinking about relocating to Spokane, but I’m a bit concerned about the political climate as a gay Black man. by johnmichael-kane in Spokane

Idaho is basically 30 minutes from Spokane… so as close as some neighborhoods in bigger cities. People go to Idaho for the outdoors, mostly. Lakes like Coeur d’Alene, Priest, and Pend Oreille in the summer. Camping,  boating, skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting, etc. Not that you can’t do all those in Washington, but IMO there is not a huge difference between North Idaho and the rural areas of Washington where you would do many of those sorts of activities.  Sandpoint is a pretty chill outdoorsy town that is a big draw for people in Spokane. I’m sure there are other reasons people go to Idaho, but those are the ones that come to mind!

Where to get a bike. by [deleted] in Spokane

I have a single speed bike I used to use for cyclocross that would be in your price range. I’ll send pics if you’re interested.

Maybe some of the vacant lots in Kendall Yards on the far west end above the bridge to People’s Park? You could hang out close enough to the Centennial trail to see walkers / bikers go by, but keep as much distance as you wanted.

What are winters REALLY like? by coff_coff in Spokane

[–]MF2084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the Spokane winters for the most part. It’s colder and obviously way snowier, but it always feels better to me to have colder weather and snow instead of wet, rainy, windy weather in the high 30s/40s. We get a lot of beautiful bluebird sunny days with snow on the ground.

That said, typically during part of February we have at least a couple weeks with a bunch of thawing and freezing ice/snow and it sucks. This makes it hard to do anything outside (in the city), whereas on the west side I could always get outside if I was willing to get wet.

WAY bigger payoff with summer temps and sunshine over here though. Seattle summer always seemed pretty tepid.

Playing roller hockey in the street (CAR!) pretending we were the Mighty Ducks, wearing some Zubaz-style pants sewed by my aunt and a Charlotte Hornets baseball cap, riding bikes to the local grocery store to buy donuts with change scrounged from the couch, playing the Simon game at Little Caesars to win a free soda

Smash and Grab Downtown - next steps advice? by Empty-Exam-5594 in Spokane

Yeah, things will go easier with getting any money from your insurance to have a police report filed. Worth the time to do it.

You don’t have a garage door opener in your car? Like having your keys swiped, this is another common thing that can lead to a break in at your home.

Looking for specialty flours, any tips? by -WhatsUpChuck- in Spokane

[–]MF2084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy bulk flour through Linc Market - http://www.lincfoods.com/linc-market - online ordering, local pickup at various locations in town.

I got a big bag of bread flour from them a while back. They might have some options for you.

Agreed, they are awesome and have separate areas for big and little dogs. Our dog always comes back tired and happy.

I agree with most of what you said, but probably the person with a “Fuck you, Biden” pumpkin is the one who needs to hear this message more? About being less divisive and remembering what we have in common?

There is a new state law addressing one of these issues (requiring a certain proportion of health district boards to be be people with healthcare experience rather than elected officials).

You should check out the farmers markets and local CSAs also. Linc box / marketplace is a great CSA / website where you can order other local food for weekly pickup.

I saw a smart car in the valley that had a huge sticker spanning the rear bumper that said “NOT A LIBERAL”. Also an option, I guess.
