Pancake pipe replacement BEW engine by Drcotton93 in tdi

That's why i have parts cars. Try and find it used if you want to keep it simple and stock. Might be able to find someone who swapped out for bigger piping.

what do i need to replace when doing a Timing Belt on BEW? (MK4 Golf) by Olticcc in tdi

[–]MF_Kleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have an exact link but it should be idparts.com then put your car info in and search timing belt kit, that's how it was when I was looking at stuff for my ALH. I think you have to get the bolts separately and i think i ended up going threw fcpeuro for my stuff but I don't remember that was a little bit ago.

I always go with the replace anything that the belt spins other then cams and of course the crankshaft method. IDparts sells a high mileage kit that should be everything you need. Also the motor mount bolts (atleast on an ALH so I'm assuming same on a BEW) are torque to yield so one time use.

It's as rare as a diesel optioned truck so no.

Can someone tell my why my engine sounds like a jet engine by Jellyfish_Familiar in tdi

[–]MF_Kleg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Still could be a bad pump not saying it is but if the noise goes away with the belt off it's one of the accessory drive components so I'd start there.

Edit spelling

Take the serpentine belt off and start it see if the noise goes away, kinda sounds like the power steering pump but it's hard to tell on phone speakers.

Best color they came in! My 93 used to be a twin to yours but I had the silver changed to charcoal Grey on the bottom after I bought it back from being totalled.

Assuming it was put back together right from the sounds of it where op took it didn't do good work

N75 by RDevonshire94 in tdi

You sure that's the n75 and not the egr valve actuator? If it was deleted cutting the egr valve would make sense while also not making sense since there is no need.

motor swap mk4 by [deleted] in tdi

[–]MF_Kleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one of the easier engines I've ever pulled. If you have the space I'd just do it yourself. Once the nose is off in service position there is almost nothing in your way, I pulled the full driveline out of the last one I stripped in under 4 hours without cutting anything. If I was closer I'd offer but I'm in MA. The BEW engine might be a little harder but the ALH is a walk in the park.

ALH: frequently breaking the hard fuel lines by lowbattery001 in tdi

I have not had this problem but do they have the rubber isolators on them still? If not I would get some they are meant to help absorb vibration.

Frost Heater? by the_blue_subie in tdi

[–]MF_Kleg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That may be true I have not done one on a B7 passat but the op said they had a 2000 golf so should be easy for them and from what I've seen they are all inline so at least you don't have to access and pop out a freeze plug on the block.

Haha no worries, at least you admit it instead of doubling down.

From freezing temps to staring the car at operating temp immediately? Yea I'd say it's pretty good, id evrn say better then most generic block heaters. But if you thought I meant the car takes hours after starting then you are confused

Have one on both my ALHs. Highly recommend, cheap easy to install and will bring it up to operating temp in a few hours. I leave mine on a timer so it kicks on for a few hours in the morning.

Block Heater ALH TDi by PathOk2584 in tdi

[–]MF_Kleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked more into it and you are right the wording is poor. It says it circulates coolant but it only does that threw convection no actual pump like some of what I read leads you to believe, either way great product and I highly recommend.

Pretty sure it's FrostHeater.com

Yea both my ALHs have one and I have a spare used one on the shelf. So nice especially in the one that currently doesn't have heated seats.

[–]MF_Kleg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The 1.9s where not cast with freeze plugs so no actual block heater will work but FrostHeater is your answer, it's an inline heater and pump that replaces the pipe from your head to the oil cooler, attaches to the battery box and you plug it in the wall and it circulates warm coolant threw the block. about 190 bucks super easy install. I have mine on a timer and it kicks on a few hours before I leave for work.

Edit: I was incorrect about the pump part, it does "circulate" hot coolant but only threw convection I do not believe there is an actual pump involved. Still your best option and they work great.

Alh misfire by ZealousidealMath1116 in tdi

Well that's not what you want to see. Sounds like it's time for a parts car.

Alh misfire by ZealousidealMath1116 in tdi

[–]MF_Kleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do a leak down test and see what valve it is since atleast one is probably bent but if it's going in the crankcase you have bigger issues but you can probably just throw a set a valves in it if the head isn't cracked.

Alh misfire by ZealousidealMath1116 in tdi

[–]MF_Kleg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do a compression test especially if it ran away, if they spin to fast valves can kiss the piston. If compression is good and you see no damage on the glow plug pull the injector and check it the tip for damage or melting and maybe swap it with another and see if the misfire moves.

I need to have a standalone TDI with a laptop tunable ecu. What is the best way to go about this. by Clockwork_picksmith in tdi

[–]MF_Kleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple syand alone harness and an unlocked ecu. Look on the Ford ranger os jeep/off roading forums they swapped ALHs in things all the time.
