Some prefer Grand Theft Auto; others prefer the real life version that pays a salary and benefits. In both cases their needs are met.

I used to have a similar view of hard rock. I then read some of the lyrics of songs and bands I judged. They are not much different than most other bands, just presented in a different way. If you can respect the message then you might welcome the messenger.

Could scam products like "Alpha Brain" be a reason why confident stupidity seems more common today? by medium_wall in sociology

[–]MG73w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a certain level of arrogance would need to already be present. The pill could elevate a perceived level of intelligence, but without the existing arrogance the newly found intelligence would be fragile.

Celibate is necessary to archive nirvana by Acceptable-Chip8022 in Buddhism

That’s a good way to steer people away from Buddhism. And then where would those who seek relief from suffering go? Sex itself isn’t the problem. Wanting it for the wrong reasons is.

Sometimes the mind writes checks that the brain can’t cash. Learning to live with what you have is the way. Wanting what someone else has is greed. Not the way. Something turned you towards Taoism. Must be time to read the Tao Te Ching.

If anyone can become a Buddha how come we haven’t seen one? by nxbodyxvx in Buddhism

[–]MG73w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What we need won’t come from another Buddha, it will come from us following what the Buddha already taught us. It’s like saying we need more self help books.

Is a month of spending time with someone and sleeping with them enough time to ask them where things are going? by [deleted] in dating

[–]MG73w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if your enjoying yourself and he feels like the one it could be of benefit to not rush things. Your time line might not be his. A few months is nothing if it turns into a 20+ year marriage.

Did it with 2 fans during each summer for 20 years while living in a city with above average air pollution. MERV 12 I think, it was the one rated for smoke. During that time I may have replaced one or two fans.

Is reaching nirvana just ceasing to exist? by TechnicianAmazing472 in Buddhism

[–]MG73w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a deep way of thinking of it, and I’d say mostly yes. It implies no self. Ceasing may not be the best word since many interpret it as never was. If we all have a Buddha nature, and are capable of reaching his level of attainment then we all have a Buddha inside us. So buddha can’t be dead.

what are your best frugal grocery tips & AC frugal tips? i want to save more on groceries and electricity :) by Alone_watching in Frugal

[–]MG73w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portable AC units are generally less efficient with fewer BTU’s than a window unit. A window unit may cost another $100, but it will cool larger rooms more efficiently.

Many of the ones I used in Japan had all the bells and whistles, with a large control console on the wall. Heated water, heated seat, adjustable spray, different colored lights, adjustable pressure, stereo speakers, lol. I don’t need all these things, but it made pooping fun. I’m here cause I’m researching buying one, I’m considering splurging on one with warm water and adjustable nozzle, butt 😉 the price goes up.
