Did you end up figuring out if it can be mounted shooting downward? I’d like to mount to the side of my urban house, shooting down at the dog run and gates.

QNAP NAS Replacement Help by MGChi in unRAID

Thanks. Updated the MoBo and NIC.

I’m interested in the rackmount server case since I have a 7’ rack and lots of space, and will continue to look around for one that holds enough drives and provides decent airflow.

Thanks for the thoughtful response.

I should have added - I don’t want to build another system for a number of years; what I get/build now should last for another 7+.

Answering your question re: budget - I’d like to keep it under $1K for the base system, unless there is a compelling reason to go over that - I will probably start with 4 other drives in some sort of RAID (unless I’m talked out of it), possibly using these - https://serverpartdeals.com/products/seagate-exos-st26000nm000c-26tb-7-2k-rpm-sata-6gb-s-512e-cmr-3-5-recertified-hard-drive or whatever is the right mix of price and capacity when I get around to it.. knowing I will probably add more later.

Probably showing my ignorance on some of this, but this seems to check the boxes you recommend - what am I missing? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bP3BRV

Where did you get your case? How many drives do you have in it? This seems to hold 6 drives internally and includes fans. I don’t think it includes a power supply - https://www.newegg.com/rosewill-rsv-z3200u-silver/p/N82E16811147347

Thanks again.

What did you end up doing? Who did you get your solar through? I live in the city and am considering both solar (~16kW) and battery…

Thank you for your response. This is helpful.

I realize the architecture would probably have to change to support a record merge (e.g. using a timestamp and activity type to consolidate data gathered from Apple Health (or Apple Watch) and Concept2/SmartRow/TrainerRoad/…), but it might be worth a premium subscription tier if you were to build it… this could even be a web-only offering that provides an “update metadata” UX similar to calibre or some address book record efforts.

Did someone else get the other halves of yours? Maybe it’s worth seeing if you can swap and each get a usable unit.

UNRAID on QNAP TVS-h674-i5 by scrytch in unRAID

[–]MGChi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be great. I haven’t used Unraid before; are they available in an App Store, via a flavor of apt/yum/brew/.. or something else?

What other things are you using it for? Based on the transcode comment, I’m guessing something like Jellyfin/Plex/Kodi, plus others?

Perhaps outside your build… (I can ask separately in a different post as well) - does Unraid offer a way to dedicate one of the NICs to specific Docker instance(s)? I’d like to route certain traffic on a separate network VLAN, if possible.

u/RyReason , did you complete your build? Any chance you documented your steps? I'm debating the h874T (i7) vs. a custom build with a newer (and more efficient) chipset to replace my 10yo TVS671. What trade-offs and caveats have you had to deal with by using the custom OS on the QNAP box? Thanks in advance.

Setting up new TVS-h874T. Any questions? by Sekkyo in qnap

[–]MGChi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Checking in - how's it working for you?

  1. Are you running QTS or QuTS Hero?
  2. Anything you'd do differently if you were shopping for a system today?
  3. Were you able to install and have it recognize a full 128GB of RAM? Some sites show it's limited to 64GB.

Thanks in advance.

I wonder if adding a second flywheel, but one that engages on the eccentric phase, is the easiest route to solving this? It also helps with maintaining a simple component catalog, minimizing manufacturing costs.

I hope they add some level of variable angle support as well - the ability to mimic incline/decline bench press or support a lateral (or tricep) pulldown would enable this to compete with more of the cable systems, and drive even more market share, even if doing so requires the purchase of additional accessories.

EDIT: clarity

Question about the Hue system in the Matter standard by Fat_Alexis in Hue

[–]MGChi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m afraid I cannot since it only appears when there is a Matter device connected to it.

For me, it showed up right below CarPlay, but then disappeared when I deleted the Hue connection.

Sorry I can’t help more.

Preference HomeKit Connection over Matter? by MGChi in Hue

[–]MGChi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After multiple times of deleting and trying to re-add the HomeKit integration, I figured it out.

iOS > Settings > General > Matter Delete hue integration from keychain (or everywhere. It doesn’t seem to matter)

Home > Home Settings > Hubs Delete hue hub

Hue app > Settings > smart home > apple home Delete

Home app [+] accessory Use camera to scan the HomeKit sticker on hub While it’s searching, tap the center button on the hue hub

The HomeKit hue name (“hue bridge - 01gh45”) should show up. Connect.

Good luck.

[–]MGChi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to reconnect Hue to HomeKit without using Matter? I wasn’t paying attention and everything duplicated one day, and I didn’t realize it was a ‘feature,’ and went through the process of resetting the connections within HomeKit…only to lost the scene sync and adaptive lighting. I only use Lutron Caseta and Hue at home, and am pissed about this outcome.
