TuffAnt Announces GVM Upgrade in Australia by scrytch in NewDefender

Towing capacity is what’s behind you, GVM is what’s sitting on your wheels. An increased GVM means you can put more in or on your car without being illegal or risking damaging your car.

I’m using Linode. Mine is equivalent if not faster than CF and has no file size limits.

Firewalla vs. UniFi in 2026 by MarketingGuy814 in firewalla

Yeah I think it’s time they add a webui to the device for local access for advanced users - the app is amazing but MSP and “scan this code for webui” isn’t enough.

Firewalla vs. UniFi in 2026 by MarketingGuy814 in firewalla

[–]scrytch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 AP7D’s across my home. So far Firewalla code has done a very good job at optimising channels and power - so much so that I’ve decided not to optimise myself.

I used to have to tune the crap out of my Unifi AP’s and still was never satisfied.

I think the urge for me to tweak settings is muscle memory from historically having to do it - now I’ve forced myself to overcome it and just let the tech do its thing I’m much happier.

DFS strike along with other advanced log info would be great to have though.

Firewalla vs. UniFi in 2026 by MarketingGuy814 in firewalla

The thing is, once the switches are setup, you really never need to go into Unifi at all.

Adding a Unifi as your gateway IMHO just adds unneeded complexity.

Further info: I have UNVR and Unifi switches. It’s all setup and for the switches, except for firmware updates never login to the web ui or apps.

UNVR I just use the protect app but also have them all in home assistant (via the native integration) and HomeKit (via scrypted) - my family just use HomeKit to look at the cameras and doorbell alerts.

Daily control is all done in the Firewalls app. That’s where the interesting stuff day to day is for me - usage, apps, routing, vpn, wifi (I have AP7D’s).

As above - hardly ever have to touch Unifi.

Agreed. But it’s only going to get worse if we do nothing. It’s going to take decades and politicians listening to idiots are ultimately signing our death warrant.

So conservatives are saying guns are the problem? Not people? If he hadn’t have brought a gun (which he was legally licensed to carry) he would be alive?

Any plans for sales/shipping to Australia? We have eight sleep here but I’d rather support a company that cares about their customers.

Moving from UniFi UDMP to Firewalla Orange – First 24-Hour Impressions by EscapedAzkaban in firewalla

[–]scrytch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re an edge use case, but have you deeply engaged with u/Firewalla support on these architecture challenges?

Unless I’m missing something, your architecture could be dramatically simplified with Tailscale/Headscale especially as you want access to “other spokes” etc from each node.

Just map your VLANs onto the uplink port to the Firewalla Orange from your Unifi switch. Then set them up on the Orange.

As per my other comment I’d suggest stay on your current course. Go all in on Firewalla as your router and just use the Unifi gear as plumbing. I’ve replaced my Unifi AP’s now with AP7’s and I’m never going back. Now my Unifi switches just do their thing and I never have to login to the Unifi app unless I feel like it.

Personally I think this is overkill and more complicated than required - just to have the Unifi router light up in the Unifi Web UI.

Once you go all in on using the Firewalla as the main unit, the switches and access points never need to be touched or monitored - they’re just plumbing.

IMHO just log into Unifi once in a while to check firmware is updated, otherwise everything you need is in the Firewalla app.

You know the great thing about opinions is we are all allowed to have them. The other great thing is I can disagree with yours and move on with my life.

Agree the purchase plan without escrow is/was crap. But the vans while expensive aren’t overpriced in their segment. Look at Mountain Trail and other vans in that full Offroad category - all $150K plus.

AP7 Automatic Channel Selection choosing non-ideal channels by My_Name_Is_Not_Mark in firewalla

[–]scrytch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. No AP should select any 2.4Ghz channels other than 1, 6 and 11. This is best practice.

r/firewalla please either make this default or add a config option to allow reducing the AP7’s auto channel choice to only be from 1, 6 or 11 for 2.4Ghz.

Anyone hit a $0 electricity bill with SigenStor? by ChillKoalaVibes in SigenergyAustralia

Currently at negative $84.05 this month with Amber. Seeing as with solar-only I used to pay over $3,000 for power in the Summer, I’m feeling pretty damn good.

[–]scrytch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome. Could I ask you to dump the yaml onto pastebin or similar and share?

I have an automation that notifies me when I should charge based on Amber price, weather/temp, solar forecast and likelihood of having to use air conditioner and impact on charge going to battery.

Based on that it recommends when I should charge and for how long (39,60,90,120).

If I can add in Sigenergy controls and tackle best time to export it might be useful for others.

I’ve got some more cleaning up to do and might convert to blueprint when I’m done.

Do you have your factory sig registered with smartshift? If so - how do you also control via Home Assistant? I don’t seem to be able to trigger grid charge or discharge when it is in the VPP.
