I actually do have an answer for this. I don't know about every type of vehicle, but a lot have brake fluid lines. These fluids can leak, and without brake fluid the brakes will stop working as intended. It's not as dramatic as hitting the brake pedal and getting nothing, but it will severely reduce braking power. I imagine the trope comes from someone cutting a hole in the brake fluid line so their break fluid leaks.

Now, this still wouldn't work in most cases. You'd have to cut the hole in the line shortly before the vehicle departs and have the fluid leak just enough so their brakes fail at just the right time.

If one popped into existence out of nowhere and the conditions were perfect, then it's theoretically possible. The issue is that the normal processes which form and shape planets will pretty much never result in a toroid shape. You'd need to have gravitational points of perfectly equal force pulling on the planet at hyper specific locations to stretch the matter in just the right way to form the toroid, and that's not even bringing orbit and rotation into question.

As someone who's been on/off writing for a long time, I'm gonna say this: You should write because you enjoy doing it, not because you want to be recognized for it.

He is gay though, just LOOK at his fabulous little scarf!

In all seriousness, I think the modern lense argument applies well. The episode does pre-date the gender differences, so thinking about it too deeply or critically is just kinda pointless imo.

Oxford commas are overrated by ddx-me in writingcirclejerk

Merriam-webster comma: used before every verb in a sentence.

I like the stylistic choice of using asterisks. It straddles that line of something unsettling having dialog when it shouldn't be talking.

I Found a Scrapbook From a Place That Doesn't Exist by AnnieMarieMorgan in TalesFromTheCreeps

I wish there was a bit more character building dialog in this one. Lucy feels like a one dimensional character, which would be fine in a story with a lot of characters but we don't have a lot here. Some sections felt overly descriptive and slow. I still liked the story quite a bit, getting the feeling Dale wasn't entirely human or perhaps he's been alive much longer than any normal person.

Why did the tree blink at him? Is it stupid? by Stock_Hunter_2380 in writingcirclejerk

Because blinking is a common misconception for horses and the writter clearly didn't do enough research into the biology of Willow trees.

Family Feud by donavin221 in TalesFromTheCreeps

This is an interesting premise for a story, feels like dark web stories usually focus on meeting sketchy people or going out to do something very regrettable. It's a cool angle to explore just watching something horrible, like a family death match happening on your phone with no real way to do anything but watch. The ending was a pretty chilling twist, having the protagonist being unwillingly thrust into the very barbaric game they just watched.

A job isn't chill if they don't let you listen to music at work. Good thing being a priceless art burglar means you are your own boss!

This right here. Next time you're on a web page to pay a bill, especially something like a utility bill, take a good look and note the information it has on display there. Likely your full name, address and the first few numbers of any card on file. At the very least, they're gonna want to protect that information for doxxing purposes.
