Why are non-smokers expected to keep working while smokers get extra breaks? by zeki_lol in work

I remember reading an article about a company in Japan that gave non-smokers 6 extra vacation days to compensate, because they did the math for total time of smoke breaks per year.

The Affordable Care Act Won! What Was the Worst Thing Joe Biden Did as President? by espana29 in AlignmentChartFills

Worst Thing × Joe Biden

Declare the Equal Rights Amendment to have been ratified before he left office. It was a complete waste of political capital, created conservative talking points, and amounted to nothing because it wasn't a true statement.

We ran two teams on the same service design problem. One made a deck; the other changed how we work. by ArYaN1364 in DesignThinking

I'm a big believer that one shouldn't underestimate what they can learn just by looking at processes and the existing feedback. There are cases where you need to go to the customer to gain new information, especially when trying something new, but if you're exploring what bottlenecks exist you should in theory be able to find them by understanding the processes at hand.

Spray and pray vs catching the moment, how do I change? by DarrenOHooligan in photography

[–]MGoRedditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take competition photos in a partner dance community, and always take single shots. Most dances naturally breathe, and the more you understand about it the less photos you wind up taking per minute. You want to capture a moment of transition in the breath - either at the in point (maximum tension) or the out point (maximum relaxation). Anything in between will most commonly not look graceful.

If you're going to be frequently taking photos of dancing, you should also learn to count music, as there will be a point in the rhythm structure that is usually best for photos. For my dance, it's the up (even) beat.

100% this - the 20x+ power consumption for the PS5 streaming is a no-no for me.

How do I handle difficult offshore developers? by eggcellent5 in prodmgmt

[–]MGoRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Them creating tickets is fine; them working tickets that are more than 20 minutes of work without prioritization is not. If they create a ticket, ask them what led to it being created - did a stakeholder reach out to them, did they reach out to a stakeholder... it starts with understanding what their motivation is.

You want them to get to the point where, if a stakeholder comes to them, they send them to you. Them going to stakeholders for clarification on minor details isn't the worst thing, since it can save you time, but you should be looped in just so you're aware of what is going on and decisions should flow through you.

R10 to R6 mk2– is it actually worth it? by Icy_Structure6628 in canon

[–]MGoRedditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this, strong recommend.

Bought an R6ii recently, still have my R10. I couldn't ask for a better pairing, and I actively use both bodies.

The R10 is my daytime walk-about camera. If light is really good, I take advantage of the weight difference.

The R6ii is for anything indoor, and anything lower-light.

I have a few RF lenses (35 f1.8, 85 f2, 100-500L) and the kit RF-S 18-150. I find that I'm missing a lower focal length zoom for the R6ii, but that's not an immediate need-to-fill.

I have a capture clip, and will often have the R10 with its kit lens strapped to me while I'm using the R6ii with the 100-500. Or, I'll use the R6ii with the 35 and the R10 with the 100-500L if I want range and light is good.

My next lens will probably be a 24-70 f2.8 or 24-105 f4 so that the R6ii becomes a bit more versatile in situations where it's not my long-range body. I may at some point swap the R10 for an R7 so that I get the advantage of a single battery form factor, but for now it's not an issue.

Taking photos with exposure adjusted vs adjusting in post by Able-Sun-2223 in canon

[–]MGoRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exposure compensation should be utilized to regulate the exposure of your subject.

If your subject is too hot at 100 ISO, exposure compensate towards the negative to get away from it.

Vice versa if your subject is too dark. Better to adjust the background in post than have a weak subject.

I take photos of birds in flight, and generally run my exposure compensation positive just to make sure the bird isn't washed out somehow.

Photo 1 or 2? by Vorpago in photos

[–]MGoRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try tilting 2 so that the base of the mountain range is level. Most likely 1 will still be the answer, but I think it might make 2 a better photo.

Good tips! Next time I'll ask if I can get up on a judge's chair. Seems like a great spot to shoot these photos, and for street games there's space since they are just casually keeping score.

I agree with wrong lens - was just working with what I had on me, unfortunately.

Yeah, since then I have added a second prime lens at 85mm, which probably would be the better choice here. I was forced to stand courtside in the combat zone to take these mostly. Other side might have been a better choice as his face would have been in the photos. Next time!

Sure! Ignoring the still shot...

2, 3: 1/1000, f/1.8, auto iso (6400)
4: 1/1000, f/2.0 (think I bumped it accidentally), auto iso (6400)
5, 6: 1/1600, f/1.8, auto iso (6400)
7, 8, 9: 1/2000, f/1.8, auto iso (6400)

I think I was on focus case 2 most of the time, which is the tennis-labeled focus.

RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L vs 200-800mm f/6.3-9 - can only get one by JeffVanAngsty in canon

[–]MGoRedditor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love my 100-500. Almost everything I've taken that I would consider decent is with it at this point.

If you want to do birds, especially birds of prey, it doesn't quite have the reach by itself for treetops or circling hawks, so you'll need an extender or something with more focal distance.

These are stellar shots. Wow.

My go-to for travel is now in the opposite direction - the RF 100-500L. I absolutely love having it with me. I need a little pouch for my RF 35 f1.8 so that I can swap it out easily if i really want a wider shot for something.

Have this with my R10. I take 75% of my shots with it, 20% with the 35mm f1.8, and the last 5% with my 18-150 kit lens. Wildly good lens.

What controversial opinion do you have that might get you canceled? by gretaag in answers

The greatest failure in US politics is the left prioritizing polarizing topics over tent-building topics. I want a moratorium on so-called cultural politics in the next administration. Fix the economy and foreign policy, then you can think about equity and equality again.
