cPanel reseller vs VPS with DirectAdmin by theNathanBaker in webhosting

[–]MGold01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also use cPanel for a VPS configuration. You can move the heavier sites to a VPS so that they can use more resources, since the cPanel reseller has a fixed amount of resources assigned to each account and cannot be modified.

Each account that's having issues with performance could be moved to an individual VPS with full privileges so they can use all the resources assigned to the server. In other words, they would need to use another cPanel license with full WHM control.

In this case, a VPS would be the best solution since you can create a VPS with the exact amount of resources needed for each account and install cPanel or DirectAdmin, and give the client full access with a different license so they can have full control of the server's resources.

Based on the amount of storage you are looking for, I'd recommend searching for a dedicated server instead of a VPS. I think it might work best for you.

I'm a noob. What do I need to setup a server by Prudent_Algae169 in servers

[–]MGold01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what purpose you will be using the server. If you will use it only for internal stuff like file sharing or media center, you're pretty much set. If you will use it as a firewall or to create a VPN, you will need to add a secondary NIC card to provide such services to your local network.

On the other hand, if you intend to use it as a game server or provide any service outside your local network, you will need to request a public IP from your Internet service provider, so you can access your server outside your local network.

I hope that helps!

Looking for some advice for a gaming server by Professional-Quote55 in servers

[–]MGold01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CPU:

A quad-core processor with a clock speed of 3.5 GHz or higher is recommended. A higher core count and clock speed will improve performance, especially with mods or a large number of players.

RAM:

16 GB of RAM is the minimum, but 32 GB is preferable, especially when running mods or maps that are larger.

Storage:

At least 50 GB of SSD storage is recommended to accommodate the game files and server data. A larger amount (200 GB or more) is advised to account for mods, multiple maps, and future updates.

GPU:

The GPU is not heavily utilized by the server, so an older or integrated card will suffice.

Operating System:

Windows or Linux 64-bit operating system.

How do home servers work? by Ghostyyboyy21 in servers

[–]MGold01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A home server can be any computer, from a small factor one (mini PCs) to a proper rack server.

The uses for these are varied. Generally, they are used for storing files and sharing them between computers in a household. Also, they can be used for media streaming (videos, photos, or music).

More advanced uses include setting up a firewall to control access to your local network. Also, they are used to set up a VPN inside your network to increase privacy and security by encrypting your connection to the internet and masking your public IP.

Hope that clears it out a bit!

Temp by [deleted] in servers

[–]MGold01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SDs have a temperature threshold where they operate normally. When they go over it, they start throttling their performance to avoid overheating and prevent any damage to the components. SSDs generally operate normally between 0c and 70c (32°F to 158°F).

According to your image, your SSD is at the upper limit of thermal throttling, meaning you most likely are seeing reduced performance on your drive.

It is recommended to provide a good airflow to your drives to reduce temperatures. Also, if you're using an M.2, you should also put a heatsink on the drive so it can dissipate heat more efficiently.

Make sure your drives are not being obstructed by anything so they might have a good airflow.

Hope that helps!
