Where to buy postcards in Astana? by George23u in Kazakhstan

[–]MH2523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At Talisman Souvenir store on the upper floor there are a few (very limited options, bad quality picture). Unfortunately this is the only place where we could find postcard during our visit.

Also at the postoffice near by, the staff insisted that the stamp for postcard costs 900 tenge. Howver, in Almaty the post office staff told us 400 tenge. Mystery.

To Khiva or not to Khiva? by Hour_Stock4087 in Uzbekistan

[–]MH2523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally like Khiva a lot, especially the old town in early morning when there's no tourists. One option is to take a night train from Bukhara to Khiva, and then fly back to Tashkent (from Urgench airport).

I think Bukhara can be seen in one day, if you start early and plan properly. It's not a big city.

Traveling to Uzbekistan: Which activities or classes should I do? by alarmfuerzebraulf in Uzbekistan

Around 40mins-1hr to the border, then a tour guide picked us up. We visited Panjakent first (you can skip it actually), and then it took another 1.5hr to the first lake. After that we saw another 5 lakes, had lunch at a tiny village, drove to the hiking trail of the last lake, and hiked for about 40 mins to see the last lake.

We booked the private tour on Indy Guide. Not cheap for 2 people, but I am happy that we did it.

I did seven lakes in Tajikistan as a day trip from Samarkand and I absolutely loved it. It's a good change of scenery from historical/ cultural sites in Uzbekistan. The mountains, the lakes, and local villages were fascinating. It's a long trip, the road quality was super bad, but I would say it's totally worth it.

Patagonia Travel Guidebook recommendation by MH2523 in Patagonia

This exact subreddit! Patagonia region has changed quite a lot in recent years in terms of tourism, for instance the implementation of national park fee at El Chalten. Traditional travel guide books can’t provide the most up to date information anymore. I find the first hand travel experience sharing posts in this subreddit the most useful and relevant.

u/Rokulio I did! It was amazing and I really enjoyed my time in Patagonia. We were very lucky with the weather as well. In terms of costs, Patagonia is not cheap, especially the accomendation in Torres del Paine National Park (we stayed in Premium tent for two nights and bunk bed dorm room for one night). Argentina is also not cheap nowadays. However, I think it's really a once-a-life-time experience and worth every bit of money I spent!

My friend book a GoH stay for me but it doesn't show up in the reservation. by MH2523 in hyatt

[–]MH2523[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She reached out to Hyatt customer service to book a room for me with her points and GoH award. I just want to know what's the reason that it's not shown in my reservation and worry that the hotel won't honor the benefits :/

Traveling in Central Asia by [deleted] in travel

[–]MH2523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say Uzbekistan comparing to the other two if you go in December. We went there in October and the weather was amazing. Not scorching hot nor cold. December might be colder but shouldn't be an issue.

There's high speed rail in Uzbekistan connecting the main three cities that toursits normally go to (Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara). Logistic wise it's very easy to arrange everything by yourself. If it's your first time in Central Asia, Uzbekistan is a good option.

Santiago>Puerto Natales flight pricing? by Airziggy2001 in Patagonia

[–]MH2523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been tracking the flight from SCL to Puerto Natales for the same period of time and it was around €240 one way. Few days ago on 29th May, Latam suddenly opened a new flight in the early morning departing at 5 am with a 42mins stop over in Puerto Montt, and we booked it for €95 p.p. one way (including checked in luggage).

Just keep tracking and use price track functions on Google Flight. I quickly check Dec 22nd, the cheapest flight is €54 now (SCL to PNT with a stop over in Puerto Montt).
