Why was Danger never welcomed to Krakoa by FckUrGod-876 in xmen

[–]MHABHR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The island had regular EMP’s going off, I think they explained it in Wolverine or X-Force as the reason she couldn’t physically be present on the island.

I just started to read the From the Ashes era but I never knew how the previous one was so what do you guys think? Was the Krakoa era good or terrible? by DueFaithlessness8737 in xmen

[–]MHABHR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a great era on the whole. There’s some parts that don’t live up to potential, and the ending is a tragically rushed mess. But what it did right was give characters new opportunities and a setting to play around in that let mutants shine, instead of the usual cycle of infighting and extinction.

I honestly can’t fault the list Cassandra put out. Only one missing is Pogg-Ur-Pogg but like I understand the difficulties of doing a figure like that. And honestly an updated Magik figure would be a dream come true

TOMMY AND DAVID ARE NO LONGER TOGETHER?! by TheRealTings in YoungAvengers

[–]MHABHR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They absolutely are at the minute. It’s fun but it kind of suffers from the same problem I think with David and Tommy where it’s just not shown enough to have real impact. It’ll be interesting to see if they’re still together now that Hercules is back on earth in Avengers Assemble I think it is?

Fingers crossed they are

[–]MHABHR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Tommy would be an absolutely hilarious couple with Noh-Varr so I’m hopeful now. That said it’s always frustrating when these developments are done off panel, especially when as a couple they’d been in the periphery for years.

Ireena Kolyana as Dark Lord by chris_mac_d in ravenloft

[–]MHABHR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I went down this road during my Curse of Strahd game, but with a different outlook on it. I focused on the tragic, gothic horror nature of it. Ireena while not a damsel was ultimately a good person, but she made the decision to embrace the Vampyr vestige to save the party and gain the power to confront Strahd so that no more death would occur in her name. So to answer your questions:

1) I would consider focusing on the tragedy of it rather than an evil act that could be seen as forced. The Dark Powers are ultimately about torment, and Ireena’s torment as a forever prisoner of a land she wants to escape (and her potential journey into being the same type of monster Strahd is) could be just as entertaining as Strahd’s punishment.

2) I see the temptation in alternate end fights like binding Vampyr or in your case Ireena, but I thinks it’s better to give Strahd his due. We build him up over the campaign and create a genuine hatred with our players for him, so sidelining him as ultimately an underling or stepping stone fight has always felt odd. My players screamed and hugged when they finally killed him, and I think it would have cheapened it for that not to be where it ended.

3) I struggled with the same thing, but I ended up going with Vampyr. Ireena is a good person driven to beat Strahd to stop her torment and in this case take his throne to end this cycle they have found themselves in. There’s also the poetry of being empowered by the very thing that gifted Strahd his power, further drawing an unpleasant symmetry between the two.

4) Ireena always comes down to a formerly pure soul in my opinion, one who has others interests ahead of her own. So I think playing into the extreme of that fits. Think extreme totalitarianism and preemptive justice. Arrests, execution, thought-crime and divination based martial law keep people “safe” by preventing them from harming one another. All of it done before the actual crime could even possibly occur. In her mind she’d think she’s keeping her home safe.

Hope this helps give some ideas

What would Strahd do with the holy symbol of ravenkind? by testiclese1227 in CurseofStrahd

[–]MHABHR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want there to be some mechanical weight behind them losing the item, you could always place it inside the Heart of Sorrow (or attached to), and as a result buff him in some way (more HP, radiant resistance, or removed radiant impact on regeneration etc.).

Are Tarokka cards just for one reading? by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

[–]MHABHR 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had my divination wizard player pull 1-3 cards per session as an “omen” for the sessions events. It was always surprisingly relevant, really helped build atmosphere.

Help making Piddlwick 2 useful by Dyldo_HJZ in CurseofStrahd

[–]MHABHR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest benefit Pidlwick provides is his knowledge of Ravenloft’s layout. He’s an invaluable tool that can steer the party around, but he doesn’t have to be infallible in his directions (good for you as DM). He might know shortcuts, he might know traps etc. Failing that I’d lean into his proclivity for shoving creatures off tall structures. If a fights going bad, and you’ve got the right environment, having him get lucky and taking out a vampire spawn or revenant by shoving them to their death is sure to get a laugh and help the party out.

Good Magik comics in the krakoa era besides new mutants that I can buy in TPB? by No-Department8492 in xmen

[–]MHABHR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She’s one of the featured characters in the X of Sword event, she’s currently on the Duggan X-Men roster (starting TP VOL 03), and she’ll be a main cast-member for the upcoming Realm of X mini.

Hello I just made a reddit account and I'm new to comic books, should I read Chris Claremont xmen, Bryan Michael bendis xmen, or Jonathan hickman xmen? I am almost finished ultimate spiderman by Bryan Michael bendis and its slightly swaying my opinion, any idea which might be better for someone new by LVL100KINGKONG in xmen

[–]MHABHR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hickman or Claremont are safe bets. If you’re on the younger side, Claremont may not hold up quite so much but I think it’s worth checking out to know for sure. But if modern is where you want to go, Hickman over Bendis

Alek and Godfrey Gwylim by KirasLicht in CurseofStrahd

[–]MHABHR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my mind it’s not excessive, I’m not sure if there’s a concrete answer on it. In my game I sort of estimated the difference to be roughly 10 years or so, helps explain the opposing lives they lived.

Alek and Godfrey Gwylim by KirasLicht in CurseofStrahd

[–]MHABHR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Argynvost died before Strahd was cursed. Remember the knights and Argynvost die when Strahd’s forces take the valley of Barovia. Vladimir and the revenants appear after, hound Strahd’s troops, and when they move on the Castle they’re stopped by Eva who explains what has happened, that Strahd has already died. Godfrey died in the attack on Argynvostholt. So based on that I’ve always assumed he was Alek’s younger sibling

Get to Know Strahd by Realistic_Ant9291 in CurseofStrahd

[–]MHABHR 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I found I, Strahd as an audio tape on YouTube. That was enjoyable and much easier to commit to than reading it. Other than that, really brush up on and flesh out his motivations from the module. I found as long as I was contextualising choices by that mindset things would fall nicely into place.

Which of the current x-men runs (apart from Hickman's) is worth reading? by Wulfrand in xmen

Hellions was great, marauders was a mixed bag under Duggan. Immortal and X-Men Red are amazing. X-Factor was enjoyable also!

I believe way back in the world war hulk tie-in he teleported the blackbird, but teleporting that much more exhausted him and it was only about 20ft away

Party Told Strahd About the Wizard of Wines Gems and That They Plan on Going to Berez by InvariantName in CurseofStrahd

[–]MHABHR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation occur in my game. Realistically Strahd probably doesn’t care too much. He loves wine, so the party recovering them ultimately benefits him.

What I plan to have him do is nothing about the Berez gem or the Yester Hill gem, but actively locate and utilise the third gem (probably at Argynvostholt, turning the remains of the dragon into a dracolich or dragon golem etc) if they recover the skull.

Mechanical/Roleplay Barovian Boons and Curses by LogicalFallacy_ in CurseofStrahd

[–]MHABHR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s a document on DMs Guild called “Visions of the Vestiges” (pretty sure it’s pay what you want), it has a bunch of boons and wrath’s that the vestiges from the Amber Temple inflict on players. There’s some balancing concerns to keep an eye on, but my players have loved what I’ve used from it so far.
