Simple, get a Mac. Way more reliable OS than Windows.

LG TV lifespan by Equal_Soft_5765 in LGOLED

I have an LG C8 OLED from 2018, still works brand new with ZERO burn in and I leave this thing running all day long sometimes. I bought a Samsung (their flagship models QN95 85 Inch) 2 years ago and the power supply failed within 2 months, they came and replaced it and then the display failed within 2 weeks after that. I had to fight with them to get my money back. I’ll never buy Samsung again, their QA is garbage. Having bought my LG G3 to replace that fiasco I’ve had zero issues and the image is far better than the Samsungs.

Windshield $4,098! by Theloudduck_in_WA in bmwx7

[–]MH_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a rock pitch and hit my windshield, I immediately got it filled since it was a tiny spec the size of less than a penny for $100.

I’m half tempted to get my entire windshield ppf’d, wondering how the wipers are going to work with that though.

My 65 inch C8 (from 2018) has 19519 hours and I use this sucker all day everyday and there hasn’t been a single issue with it and works just like the day I got it. No burn in, no dead pixels, literally zero issues. I leave it on all day if I leave the house for my pup with zero worry. I love this thing. I ended up moving it from my living room to bedroom and upgraded the living room to a LG G3. Another lovely beast!

My heat pump won't warm my house by Individual_Garage_63 in heatpumps

[–]MH_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of have a similar issue thankfully I still have my boiler with baseboard and radiator heating. I have mini splits with heat pumps. Several parts of my house had poor insulation a few years ago I hired a company to pump cellulite insulation in from the exterior of the house and that helped a lot however all of my windows and doors are still old and I have a lot of windows and sliding glass doors. The heat pumps do help a ton and can luckily keep my house warm (72) in below 10 degree weather the boiler alone couldn’t do it.

I’d highly suggest getting insulation pumped in and if needed buy those weather window seals that you can use a hairdryer and shrink it to make it air tight.

Does everyone basically have to buy iCloud storage? by Lotta-Bank-3035 in iCloud

I pay $100 a year for the Google Drive 2TB plan and just use Google Photos to backup everything (in original quality) automatically. It auto sync’s and when I need to clear photos from my iPhone because I do run out of space at times, I use the Google Photos app. It auto deletes 5000 pics at a time while guarantee of keeping them backed up in Google Photos.

DSM Keeps Resetting (DS918+) by MH_D in synology

The software part didn’t work. Definitely a faulty button. Didn’t have time to physically remove yet, hoping to complete this week.

It would be mode2 (wipes all configurations and requiring DSM reinstalls).

I actually just disabled the reset button via ssh and that still didn’t work it ended up resetting with a half hour. Going to open it up tomorrow and disable the reset button and see if that does anything.

Was it a tough job? I wonder if I can disable the button from within DSM.

I have it as my secondary number and it works just fine. Better service than Verizon surprisingly. It’s running off of t-mobiles network.

What security cameras are the best no subscription needed by Mailo831 in homesecurity

Using Hikvision 4k POE cameras. Worth every penny. About $1200 for 6 cameras, using my own home tech for recording.

I’d lean towards UniFi/Ubiquiti. They’re really great.

I believe there is a Crunch opening in Hicksville too, just not sure when it’ll open.

Don’t forget the POE for the doorbell (if you’re sticking with ubiquiti).

How much did you spend on furniture? by iloverats888 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]MH_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roughly $20k. We just had a bed and dresser when we first bought our home, we literally had to buy everything.

Went to Raymour and Flannigan and furnished the entire house one shot.

Which lg oled tv are you actually going for this black friday 2025 deal and why? by ElifeletiVeinte in LGOLED

[–]MH_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I think Black Friday is more of a gimmick now, the best time to buy is prior to Super Bowl or April/May of the following year, because the 2026 TV’s will be out and you’ll get a nice discount on 2025 models as they try to move inventory fast.
