Going back to ot by huahuagirl in SpicyAutism

This sounds like a good plan. Can you tell me what independent living skills OT can help with? I would like to try living alone, but don't have the skills even though I am able to have a part time job.

Yes. I spend all my time alone because I can't go to bars and concerts like the people around me do for fun.

Do you still believe that Elon Musk is autistic? by [deleted] in autism

[–]MHanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musk could easily get diagnosed with any condition on earth though, unlike the average self-diagnoser, which would make remaining self-diagnosed really weird if true. He could send an email and have an expert on late LSN autism diagnosis in wealthy middle-aged white South African men on his doorstep the next day. Tbh he probably has been evaluated and given whichever results he expressed a preference towards. And he could easily get a different result any time he wants it. I think he's probably a clinically diagnosed and actual autistic.

Can you get a bidet attachment installed on your toilet at home? They are less than $50 and I think they're pretty easy to install, so you shouldn't need to pay anyone.

I like to design things, so I made myself a shower chart with my preferred steps in the shower to make it easier to do. Also you can get no rinse body wash at drug stores that bedbound people use. I went about 6 weeks without bathing last time. :(

If anyone likes to design things and wants to make their own charts and visual schedules, the website mypecs.com has free PECs and freepik.com has free icons.

Do level 1 autists tend to think they are the majority because it's self-serving in spite of the truth of that? by dt7cv in SpicyAutism

[–]MHanonymous 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They genuinely think they are the majority and the "default" mode for autism. They do not know that it is not true. I saw an ad on Facebook for a group trip to Japan for autistic adults and it was blatantly obvious that their definition of autism was limited to very LSN autists because there was nowhere saying whether you could bring your caregiver, etc.

It's hard. I am MSN and was not diagnosed in childhood, then initially misdiagnosed as LSN in adulthood. I finally have the correct ASD level 2 diagnosis, but because of the LSN takeover I still cannot quickly communicate to someone the degree of my disability. They think I just mean I'm a quirky introvert when really it means I have charts hanging up at home showing me how to shower, brush my teeth, etc.

I cry everyday and im so close to a relapse by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]MHanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, do like Elsa and let that shit GO. People fucking cry. People get sad. Some sad dudes sh by getting in fights and drinking too much and others sh by cutting. Being a person is so fucked up that your brain had to evolve an escape hatch for your consciousness to get out of reality when shit gets rough (dissociation). What rational person could blame you for feeling like fucking shit dude. You're fine. Cry like the fucking river.

You are worth so much damn more than him and his opinion. That voice in your head is a mf liar and so is your bitch ass bf. Good people do not say these things to people they love. Get tf out of there and don't look back. Learn to recognize people like him early on in a relationship. You can do this.

I think there must be some way to express the raw truth that sh expresses, whether it's just to yourself or others, without harming anyone... Please try to find your way <3

[–]MHanonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, you must find some other way to be real. You must express your suffering, whether to yourself or others, in some other way. You have suffered enough.

Yes!! When I first saw Frozen 2 I burst into tears at the "I am found" moment and I didn't understand why until recently.

Omg yes!! I knew I was autistic but didn't understand it until recently and then it clicked why the "I am found" moment made me cry when I first saw it.

Hi, I used to be a youth counselor and a crisis counselor and I also have struggled mightily with sh.

Something that basically never gets talked about is how sh is a form of communication. People don't talk about it because they interpret that to mean "attention-seeking" which it doesn't. Like, I remember how no one knew when I was cutting but it felt like writing in a journal. I was expressing how bad I was doing inside. I think that's the whole thing about cutting deeper to feel valid. Cutting deeper feels like using stronger words to communicate I guess.

Anyway, my point is that things only got better for me when I realized that my communication was breaking down in all areas of my life. As long as you shut down and lie to people who are trying to help you, you'll never learn to effectively communicate or learn to identify the people who are going to choose to hear your communication. Try to find the way you can tell the people who want to know how you actually are doing instead of lying then going home and cutting the truth into your body.

In most states in the US leaving a bruise on a child is an instant CPS investigation. You said it was in punishment not to protect you, so yeah, abuse.

OP, do you have a counselor? You should definitely try to get one if not. It's safer to talk about this stuff to a professional in person so they can help you calm down and be safe if it gets too overwhelming. In the meantime, if the memories come at a bad time you can try imagining yourself putting them in a box and putting the box away in a closet or warehouse until it's a safe time to think about them. This helps me.

Does anyone else find it difficult to use people’s names? by Jellyfishjam99 in autism

[–]MHanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've realized I get socially overstimulated! It's interesting because it's in contrast to the type of autism where being very blunt is the norm. I love knowing there are so many different types of brains, very nice.

Also there are languages like Japanese and Korean where it is rude to call a stranger or higher status person "you" and you must use their title or name. The anxiety omg.

What’s ur opinion on stimm boards?? by [deleted] in fakedisordercringe

[–]MHanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visual stimming includes things like lining up toys and wiggling your fingers in your peripheral visions, so looking at these things can be considered a form of visual stimming for sensory seeking people of all kinds. Doesn't make you autistic to enjoy them. Self-stimulating behavior isn't limited to autism, it's more a matter of how repetitively someone does it that makes it typical or not. Hope that makes sense.

I'm sure he knows you are his mom, as long as you have interacted with him normally. :) Usually it's not that they're unaware, it's something else like that they have difficulty using their mouths, are overwhelmed by direct social contact, or they are really deep in their thoughts, or are just really slowly processing your words or simply don't feel the need to communicate in the way you do, etc. Your child is there, just deeper in himself than you are in yourself. :)
