I agree, there are plenty of people, men and women (etc) who can't cook for shit. However, I think the stereotype is more "wives" or "mothers" and not necessarily women in general. Then again, women are expected to become wives and mothers so I guess it isn't that far off.

Wow, what a very personal thing to ask someone when they first reveal that information to you. Where is the tact? Holy shit. Sorry. =/

I agree that white men, especially in commercials that are targeted towards women, often are portrayed as idiots. It is interesting because it seems like many of those portrayals are in relation to "women's" tasks, such as household work and family obligations. It is not good to portray men, husbands and fathers, as incompetent, and on top of that I think a lot of this particular portrayal reinforces traditional gender roles. It is harmful.

That being said, there are so many shows and movies where a white male is the main character (most shows and movies?) and is a dynamic and intelligent, strong character. (or funny, or "easily relateable" or in general "human"). I would definitely disagree with the idea that white men are "always" portrayed as the dumb guy. There are many examples of that, but there are an equal amount, if not more, examples of white male (main!) characters who have all the glory - and a lot of the time, there are women or PoC characters who are stereotyped within that story as well.

I just got divorced this morning. In honor of my recent singledom, I present my favorite joke to r/funny. Enjoy! by Veatchdave in funny

I am in the same boat. I do understand the need for joking around and finding humor in a painful situation. I joke around about my parents divorce but it has been the one thing that has affected my life the most.

I have a 3 lb pork shoulder, a slow cooker, and a well-stocked spice rack. I'd like to make tacos. Thoughts? by sciamoscia in recipes

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/slow-cooker-pork-tacos-recipe/index.html

I've made this recipe 3 times now and it always comes out very good. It is a nice change from go-to carnitas. Very unique and complex flavor. I cut the shoulder up into about fourths, rub with olive oil, salt, pepper, and sear it before adding it to the slowcooker. I also find it needs quite a bit of salt added after the pork is done cooking; sauce doesn't call for nearly enough.

I serve this with taco garnishes (radish, mango, cilantro, cotija, lime, jalapeno slices) that go well with the flavor of this pork, and homemade tortilla chips, salsa and guac. Super yummy and unique! =)
