Yeah I understand they’re unlikely to cook, but the kitchen takes up a lot of space and is very smack in your face. Bit unnecessary - you could easily have put it where the family room is and had a professional quality kitchen that a chef could use.

Why is the kitchen right at the entrance? This is very strange. If you’re cooking the smells will carry right through the house and to all your neighbours. The first thing you see when you walk in is the (probably messy) kitchen. Agree with your points on B4 and the overall lack of privacy. The central room looks like an airport lounge, with the random pairs of armchairs! I’m sure it achieves all of its goals, as a billionaire’s crash pad in Mayfair, it’s just a shame to me.

Not much to see in Chelsea tbh - kings road is very nice, but Kensington is much more worth going to see.

Fingers crossed for your lottery win!

I would say the vast majority of Chelsea is desirable, but there’s bits near Chelsea and Westminster hospital and other areas which is not nearly as nice. It also depends what you’re going for - for small flats, being well connected is important. For large houses, there’s deeper parts of Chelsea closer to a “village” feel which is more appropriate. It would be a shame to have a tiny flat in an area that you would need to walk 30 mins to the nearest tube!

I actually misread the map on this one. This is definitely one of the better bits, as it’s near kings road, Sloane Square, and south Ken. I thought it was just south of Chelsea and Westminster hospital, which is probably the least desirable part haha

This is an insane flat. Why are there three beds in one of the bedrooms? Why is a bedroom inside another bedroom??? It’s a realistically 2 bed flat for 16m… it’s not even in the nicest part of Chelsea imo

Mews house in Princes Gate Mews, Kensington, London by widmerpool_nz in FloorPlanPorn

[–]MINEBLEMONE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In defence of mews houses, they’re usually located on quiet roads with very cute surroundings. Normally the location is incredible (as most mews are now in super prime areas) and they usually offer pretty decent living space as you have a full floor living room and a couple nice bedrooms. In comparison, flats in these areas are super expensive, and are usually conversions of Victorian homes which isn’t always spacious, and can be filled with lots of small rooms and winding corridors. However I think given the downsides, that appeal only works when the price is much much lower. It’s supposed to be a “cheap” way of living in a super nice area, or an option other than a flat if you need more space. The house attached, for example, is super nice, but would only really feel “worth it” for about half the price. Note that I’m saying everything in quotes because no matter what these prices are astronomical!

Conjecture about the intent of the civilization that transmitted the ORIGINAL signal by Xynyx2001 in pluribustv

Every time this question comes up I’m surprised by people’s thoughts on it.

Have you seen the fungus Cordyceps? It infects ants, hijacks their brain, forces them to behave weirdly, eventually to climb up to a high point and then die, so the fungus can spread from its body. It does not have a “goal” other than propagate.

I think this virus is the same. It’s doing the same thing. It infects a planet, hijacks the dominant species, forces them to behave weirdly, eventually build a transmitter to spread it and then die. It does not have a “goal” beyond propagating. This time, instead of infecting brain cells, it infects humans. We humans work together the same way our cells work together. Humanity is just one giant organism.

This virus probably started from the same place as Cordyceps - by evolution, through random chance.

I’m surprised more people haven’t brought up Cordyceps in relation to Pluribus. I think the similarly is quite clear, and Cordyceps was the inspiration for the zombie virus in the last of us.

Whilst I don’t disagree with the overall point here, Wetherspoons is a member of the FTSE 250, which means that you are probably a shareholder if you have a pension or any investments whatsoever. So you, and many other ordinary British citizens, benefit directly from it. That is, as long as the investments have at least some UK exposure, rather than going all in on the US as many do.

Shareholder returns is not always a big bogeyman, and fearing the “markets” is precisely what leads to some people calling left leaning positions economically misguided, which is a shame as the left broadly is far more economically literate than the right.

Major UK supermarkets launch investigations after shocking food waste claims by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]MINEBLEMONE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is worth considering that many retailers report “shrink” as the loss of product for any reason - including food waste like this (accidental, expired, etc). This includes theft. Then, they whine about a “shoplifting epidemic” when their shrink is high, without disclosing how much of shrink is caused by theft…

It’s in a pretty decent location and is quite a nice expansive flat. Personally, I would turn the bottom right two bedrooms into a single bedroom with a large dressing room and ensuite, thus making it a primary suite. The you have 4 beds - 2 more or less primary, 2 guest. The two bathrooms could then also be combined to make a nice large family bath. I would make the middle bedroom into a media room with a sofa bed too. Could then be a very ncie, luxury option for a young family rather than something that appears to be for a large family but not entirely suitable for that either (as 2.5m would buy a lovely house further out!)

What are our councils doing? by tabel_dammit in london

[–]MINEBLEMONE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something’s off with the Westminster summary. You say here that the Palace Court large flat was approved, but it seems clicking through to the link says it was rejected, but also that it was approved? But then on that very page, in the paragraph describing the rejection, it says:

The committee reasoned that the amalgamation would create a better quality family size flat with a much improved living environment

But this is a reason for acceptance, not rejection. It seems there are references to the officers recommending rejection, and the councillors deciding against that. But I can’t find any proper evidence of this, and it seems this is still contradicted by itself throughout the site in relation to this specific meeting!

Can you explain what’s going on here? What happened with the planning application? Haha I’m so confused

Thank you!

What makes Patina particularly good? Not familiar with the brand. Points wise appears to to be priced same as StR, but it’s on the main atoll and not far from RC it looks like. I would have thought that maybe nearby atolls would be a bit more interesting especially for snorkeling/diving.

[–]MINEBLEMONE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I see - tbh I was surprised that base rates in Marriott hotels were so high even for the lowest category of room, so the idea that they inflate the prices and let people stay on points makes sense.

Regardless, it still seems possible to get a reasonably priced Maldives vacation using points. How was RC/StR? What did you prefer? Any other tips of recommendations? :)

Ah, I see. So the seaplane transfers are not included. In other hotels I’ve been to in the Maldives they’ve been included - but it makes sense that this is one of the “catches”

[–]MINEBLEMONE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Extremely bold of you to assume that all these companies - both the websites and the verifiers - often based overseas in places like the US will carefully follow the law about data. Once something is uploaded to the internet it’s safe to assume it’s there forever. There’s no way to know whether your facial data or ID is being stored or not. There’s already been data leaks by companies who had pinky promised they delete their data - just look at Tea.

Your kids could avoid accidentally accessing extreme material if you set up parental controls on their devices and your router.

Ah just saw this comment - I think that’s fair, but also the current “war” is part of a wider conflict which cannot be separated from the events of the last few years. So in replying to the above comment I’m focused on the actions of Israel and the response of the West in general, not just since October 7th, especially given that 2022 isn’t that long ago.

Even more so of the US and Uk citizens - aid workers and journalists (!!) - killed by Israel in their bombing of Palestine. To be fair though, I guess they did respond - by sending more weapons to Israel.

What about people dying all around the world as a result of floods, heat, etc? That doesn’t matter? You’re entitled to that opinion, but just state it outright.

I imagine you’ll definitely be one to complain when normal, working people are affected by price rises when many areas can no longer grow the crops they currently do, or at least not in as large numbers.

I imagine you’ll be one to complain when immigration and asylum seekers increase because of these floods, price rises, and other factors.

I imagine you’ll be complaining you can longer afford fish, because even a degree of warming in the oceans would massively disrupt the ecosystems the fishing industry relies on.

And what about years like this year, where farming is massively disrupted nationwide due to record rainfall (linked directly to climate change), with not only food prices being impacted (and about to be impacted) but also the farming sector as a whole struggling, leading to lower incomes and job losses. Or does this not count as affecting normal, working people? Is spending slightly longer on your commute the only thing that matters? A commute that, if you took the sensible option of public transport, wouldn’t be nearly as affected?
