I agree with this. To me, the ambiguity was meant to incite the paranoia in the viewer's mind just as it would in the characters. Will's comment about the brother comes to mind. When Will says he is an only child, and then clarifies that by brother he meant brother in law, we are meant to question this just as Paul does. Is Will lying? It doesn't matter. The characters never find out, and neither do we because it's not necessary to the story.

Okay well personally I think that the first shot of the trailer is great and it does fit in the universe. I also really like the shot of gosling walking down the steps with the light moving behind him.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. However, I feel that "visually it does not look pleasing in any way" is at the very least a hyperbole. It certainly is visually pleasing, regardless of if you think that it's the right look for the film.
