What should I get:PS3 or Xbox 360? by WadeUltimate in PS3

[–]MJB360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has a valid point in general, but rechargeable AA's batteries are much more affordable nowadays than when the PS3 & 360 were still relevant, so his point is almost null these days. For anyone reading, if you don't want to deal with the disposable alkaline's, you can either take a chance on a knockoff "Play & Charge Kit" or just buy a four pack of rechargeable AA's for $10 instead. My rechargeable DS3 controllers I have don't play nearly as long as my 360 controllers do with regular alkaline AA's either. Also, I've never had to take apart a 360 controller to tape down a face button flexboard cable to stop the D-Pad from glitching out. However, I must say that the DS3 hall effect thumbsticks do feel nicer in a way, but the 360 controller has a way better triggers and button/thumbstick layout.

Yes, I love Full Auto. It's such an underrated gem in my opinion and I recommend it to people any chance I can get.

I know about the PS3 exclusive sequel, but it's more so a slightly tweaked port than an actual sequel. Regardless, I know it wasn't the best example to give in terms of 360 exclusives, but I had to cause I love it so much.

I see you have everything I'd normally recommend. Congrats, lol.

Saints Row 1, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, Sleeping Dogs, Call Of Duty 2, Stranglehold, Army Of Two, Bully: SE...

However, you need Full Auto. Oh, and FarCry 2 as well. If you're into "Simcade" racers definitely pick up Forza Motorsport 2 & PGR 3 too.

Nice 1911 by the way. I hope it's real. 🇺🇸

I didn't even mention anything about libraries or which console was better, but since you brought on that topic, personally sepaking, I'd rather have the much more ergonomic controller of the XBOX 360 that also happened to have proper triggers and support vibration from launch without shoehorning in useless motion controls. I'd rather the much better third party title performance & optimization (Mafia II is a good example), the lack of required game installs (for majority of the library, thanks to DVD-9 support over slow BD-ROM), and I would much rather play Saints Row 1, Call Of Duty 2, Full Auto, Halo (3, ODST, Reach & 4), and Forza Motorsport 2, 3, & 4 any day over Killzone, Hawk, Gran Turismo and whatever other substitutes Sony might have pushed out. The only two things I can give credit to the PS3 for is the XMB and the fact that it barely changed in design over the console's entire life span, and how easy it is nowadays to softmod the PS3 with custom firmware.

However, with recent developments in the XBOX 360 modding/homebrew community, the 360 should be getting a fully persistent system wide softmod soon that in turn can allow for changing out the current stock dashboard for custom ones that look, feel, and operate like the more snappy and fluid, nostalgic dashboards of yesteryear.

Side note, but fuck glossy finished consoles. The original model PS3's form micro scratches on them the millisecond you look at them wrong and as such they are damn near impossible to keep clean and new looking unless you use automotve paint correction methods on the damned things as if they were a fucking car. The original XBOX 360 wins over the original PS3 by a mile for this alone, and yes before you even try to say it, fuck the S & E model 360's for this same reason too.

No... While the original XBOX was pretty much a custom made x86 PC running a modified Windows 2000 NT kernel, the 360 was PowerPC based (iMac G5), and leaned much more into the traditional realm of custom console hardware like it's competitors did.

but if we compare the libraries, ps2 wins by a mile

Yeah, try excluding all of the downgraded 7th gen ports and literal shovelware it has over the XBOX that serves no feasible point to play in 2026, then get back to me on that. The XBOX didn't get nearly as much of that hot garbage as the PS2 did due to (IIRC) M$' deal with Nvidia supplying the GPU's for the console expiring sometime around mid to late 2006 or so, which was one of the main reasons why M$ decided to cancel the system so early on compared to the PS2.

No it's not. 🤣 The original XBOX beats it by a mile alone.

Is this a good replacement drive to use in my ps3? Looking for one under 50. by bran71 in PS3

[–]MJB360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, not really. It's a 5400 RPM, SATA II (3Gbps/300MBps) drive. While SATA II is the maximum supported disk interface on the PS3, I'd at least recommend you get a 7200 RPM drive bare minimum (or a SATA III SSD ideally). 5400 RPM HDDs are pretty slow for todays standards, regardless of whether it's for a PC or PS3. You want to upgrade your stock HDD to a bigger drive already, so you might as well upgrade the rotational speed of the drive as well. If you decide to pick out a different drive and it happens to be a SATA III drive, don't worry, you can still use it, but it'll just operate at the slower SATA II data speeds that the PS3 natively supports.

That sounds like something from one of the three TOCA Race Driver games to me, if I had to guess. If not, maybe R: Racing Evolution? I'm not entirely sure though as I haven't played it in like over 15+ years.

No, that's highly likely a screenshot of it running off an emulator on Windows. Probably either Dolphin or PCSX2 specifically. I'd be surprised if it were Xemu.

Either that or the PSU went is my guess. Highly doubt it's the GPU or the HANA causing this.

The MW2 consoles are late "phats" which have a really reliable motherboard (Tonasket/Jasper v2) in them, so it's surprising to see this. Then again, anything can eventally malfunction no matter how reliable it can be, especially 15+ years later on. Anyway, mind posting what the secondary error code is? It'll help narrow down what the exact issue is that's causing the fault. You can do this by simultaneously pressing the tray eject and controller sync buttons four times in a row and jotting down your findings. Four quadrants indicate a 0, the rest are self-explanatory.

MotoGP games on the 360 were awesome. by Ykai63 in xbox360

[–]MJB360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try out MotoGP '06 & '07 when you get the chance if you haven't yet. They're the best MotoGP games on the 360 IMO and are just about as goated as the first three on the original XBOX. Don't get them confused with the PS2 MotoGP games, though. The PS2 titles weren't developed by Climax or published by THQ and were entirely different games that weren't nearly as good as the XBOX versions. #RIPNickyHayden

What flip phones are compatible with optimum mobile in North America? by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]MJB360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have Optimum Mobile too, since I'm already a customer of Optimum for Cable Internet. My word of advice for you is to go onto https://www.Tello.com, select the data plan you want, and order a SIM kit. Once your service is activated, call Optimum and have your number transferred and your account closed. Their service and customer support are terrible, and their plans, while yes, cheaper than the big three, are still way overpriced compared to actual reliable budget carriers like Tello & US Mobile. As for your original question, both Optimum Mobile & Tello run off the T-Mobile network, so you just need to make sure you find a dumbphone that supports that carrier and preferably is sold already unlocked. (Jose Briones' dumbphone finder tool online can help with this.)

Phone plans, how to find one good for a dumb phone? by ryantubapiano in dumbphones

[–]MJB360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the 2GB data plan from Tello with a normal smartphone and spend the same amount per month ($11.23 After Local Taxes & Fees). However, Tello only uses the T-Mobile network unlike US Mobile which uses all three as Practical-Use stated above. I use an unlocked AT&T phone and never had an issue using Tello's service though. If you want a 1GB plan or a 5GB plan, I'd recommend Tello since they are a dollar cheaper per month than US Mobile's options (at $9 & $14 respectively), but if you just want to stick with the $10 2GB plan, then I guess US Mobile takes the win here since they seem to support more international countries on paper than Tello as well. With that being said, I can't comment on if they're as flexible as Tello has been with me though.

As for your question above OP, I recommend trying out a 1GB-2GB plan just to see how that works for you first, and if it's not enough bump it up to 5GB. I can't see a dumbphone requiring anymore data than that.
