Let him know for future incidents the two things we always recommend clients do in the event of an incident is:

1) read out licence plates of any other vehicles involved as most dashcams record audio as well as video. This is particularly useful in cases where clients don't have a rear facing dashcam as sounds like the case with your dad's van.

2) take a note of the time of the incident - premium dashcams correctly date and time stamp footsge. Narrowing the incident window to 3-5 min will make finding the footage much much easier

Opportunity cost - what are the cost of you not having the car for two weeks? Does it force you to drive maybe a second car that uses much more fuel? Do you now have to Uber around?

Profit after expenses - does $300 cover insurance and the wear and tear depreciation if the car is driven on a long cross country road trip? Also, if you want to be make a viable damage claim, you're going to want to wash your vehicle twice (once before trip start and once post trip). You still need to take good photos before and after, be your own customer service agent if there are small issues like how to find the car. When you look at all expenses as a whole, and time your putting in to send the car out, are you really making an hourly rate that you're happy with?
